I love reading! Have quite an eclectic selection of books - see bookshelf, really enjoy John Grisham and Michael Connelly, on the other hand I also read sprirtual formation and Christian leadership works as well. My pet subject is friendship within literature - often idealised rather than realsitic however with the right insights even... more »

Not sure that this is the best title for what is a good book. In the search for a new and lasting catechesis Tomlinson explores spiritual virtues and discipline in a very readable style. My only criticism would be that in a ten chapter book, seven chapters of background is a bit much, although very good, some people may switch off before the best parts which are undoubtedly the last three chapters.
In my honest opinion: a must read for anyone involved in church leadership or spiritual formation.

  • Emotionally Healthy Spirituality: Unleash a Revolution in Your Life in Christ

Enjoyed this tremendously. The whole linkage of emotions and spirituality impacts everything from home to workplace - and that's before you get to church! The early chapters hint at something unhelpful in Pete Scazzaro's background which he rightly keeps hidden but the reader is left in no doubt that the author has faced and dealt with his own spiritual immaturity and prays for the same in the lives, churches and communities of others. Not necessarily a 'must read' but a 'should read' for Christians and especially pastors or those with pastoral responsibility.

Trevor Waldock explores the depth of 'eldership' and it's significant relevance for the world today. The legacy that one leaves - beyond ones own witness - is a powerful force for good. KNowing that you will leave a legacy you may never see and that legacy brings fruitfulness and wholeness to individuals is very important in our instant / disposable world. Trevor traces sources of eldership through time and culture shift.

This is very readable and an important book for leaders, parents and those that have a worldview beyond their immeadiate surroundings.

    What will you leave behind?

This is a great book! It is obviously made better by personal knowledge of the island of Lewis however Peter May is a story writer of great skill.
The tale is one of Childhood and Youth revisited with many cultural references and touchpoints from life in the Western Isles, the background is a murder investigation however the personal adjustment of one who has moved away unlocks more than the solution to the crime.

simple theological reflection reminding that all are ragamuffins in the eyes of the lord - which is good because God loves ragamuffins!

  • THE LIBERATING TRUTH: How Jesus Empowers Women
    • Rated 5 stars

First class book. A must read for Christian leaders and an essential for any church members who are even slightly concerned about everyone's place in the church - the truth is everyone in the church can occupy every ministry of the Church. Danielle Strickland guides the reader through both a Biblical and cultural understanding needed when faced with those that would marginalise anyone - especially women. God bless you Danielle for this work.
