Many thanks for your welcome, it my pleasure to be in the group, about WW-II I feel that real picture is still behind many covers or may be because of some political problems its being not posted, some time back i read a book called, THE LAST BATTLE, it was a good book and was descibing things in a good manner how real situation was, but again while ending it the writer is lost and it ends abruptly.

Thank you Chris. I hope you enjoy the story of my father-in-laws' military experience during WWII. I really enjoyed putting it together.

Please be kind with any reviews. I'm not a famous author (yet).

    Thanks for welcoming me.
One grandfather was a Navy Pilot, the other grandfather a radio operator, and one grandmother was a nurse's assistant during World War II.
Guess that was part of the reason why I started getting a little more interested; I never learned much at school other than Hitler and the Holocaust, Japan attacking Pearl Harbor, and the atomic bombs dropped on Japan that ended the war - we "stayed at home", following the women in the workforce and the shortages back in the USA.
Italy, Africa, Sicily - never mentioned. The Resistance, OSS, paratroopers, Rangers - nope. Midway was a "neat march" - and a dot in the ocean that meant nothing. Didn't know anything about the "Battle of the Bulge", other than the Germans ended up where they started from. Knew next to nothing about D-Day. Nor did I know much about the military generals or the guys who did the fighting.
I've come a long way, thanks to books and the Military Channel!

So nice to hear from you, Chris! I'm glad you enjoyed both of my books. You're not the only one who has asked me to write a "sequel to the sequel." I'll be sure to let you know if I do. In case you have any German-speaking friends please let them know about the German translation of Weeds Like Us which was published in March in Hamburg. The German title is "Eine lange Flucht aus Ostpreußen." Best wishes from Chicago, Gunter

Thanks for the warm welcome. This is the first time I've been welcomed to a group :)

I tend to read mostly fiction, so hopefully I can share and find some recommendations for this period in time.

Through some diabolical glitch at Shelfari I ended up with TWO accounts and could only sign in to the newly created one. So I've had to transfer all of my books and, more or less, start from scratch. In the process I've also lost all of my "friends" and "followers". I've tried to get Shelfari to correct the situation to no avail. They keep referring me to Amazon and the Amazon "help" people claim never to have heard of Shelfari. Hope you'll continue to "follow" me at my new location. Gunter
