Hi Gerard, yes as you can tell by the time (midnight!) I am too busy to get onto shelfari often. Have what martha and I call "paper interruptus!" Writing about Dumas. did you see the MOMA retrospective? Hope you're well too. Wish me luck getting this paper done! And then back to the studio to mull over the Cezanne we saw at the PMA. It was revelatory, though did you know that no women painters were born between late 1800's and 1968? (wink.) write back when you can!

It's a great resource. Some stuff I'm doing requires comic dialogue bubbles, so I found this in my searches. I'd recommend bypassing the book and go to www.balloontales.com and click on tips... I made them into pdf's myself and printed my own manual out. Things are fine in the east, how about the west?

The book arrived today in the mail. I opened the package and my first reaction was exitedness, and as I was flipping through it it turned to uneasiness (a guilt sort of, like I committed a crime), then at a few pictures, it was pure disgust and repulsion. Thank you Carmina & Gerard, I'm happy that the sight of dead, run over animals along the sides of rural roads make you think of me =)

You've got a friend in Pennsylvania.

Cat's Eye generated plenty of discussion: much about whether experience with mean girls could have been so formative. all loved the discrepancy between what the artist saw & what the audience saw in her art. . .

Did I tell you about Golden Legacy? (on my shelf). Very interesting, especially for how pix & words work together, and for an early fan of Richard Scarry. . .

I did read Dancing with Elephants on the plane to and from CA. I will send it back to Mum to read. It was pretty good, but I don't know enuf about the Philippines to judge its historical faithfulness. Still, it gave a flavor of the culture.
Not sure if my note went thru on Patrick's Dinosaurs. Glad Gabe likes it. It always reminded me of B & Patrick. . .

What did you (& Gabe) think of Edward Tulane? (I loved it, but will freely admitted to a sentimental streak a mile wide, plus a fondness for books about rabbits--Velveteen Rabbit, Rabbit Hill, Barrington Bunny. . .)

I tried unsuccessfully, btw, to get Police Pictures and Bomb after Bomb from the Minuteman Library Network. . .maybe I'll try for the Civil War art book next. . .

Just finished reading The Worst Hard Time (on your recommendation); well worth the effort! It is a bit of history I didn't know and wish was better known, because humankind is in the process of repeating it. I described the book to B&C as almost a prequel to An Inconvenient Truth. . .

Thx to Gabriel for his notes! Delighted to see we share some faves. There's a couple I'll have to see if I can get on interlibrary loan. . . .
