I've lived on both coasts of the US and in Egypt, schlepping the books of favorite authors as I moved across time and space.
Worked as a nurse and a research technician, then managed the labs of a cancer institute.

Yup, you were at Henry's BBQ. Great place. Pretty much within walking distance of our concert hall. And you totally nailed Greenville - from the BJU girls to the BBQ sauce.

Welcome to Better than Starbucks! Look around, make yourself at home, start a new thread or dig up an old one or just read and jump in on the more active ones.

Sounds normal for a writer. My wife understands and is protective of my writing time. she also is my beta reader and always impatient for me to finish a draft.

I see a cat. We also are cat people. Cats are the best pet companions for writers imo.

Not the drinking, Hemingway sharpened dozens of pencils before writing standing up.

Yes, I interpreted Faulkner's comment to include relationships. I have sacrificed some friendships because my writing took precedence over being social at their convenience and that I often "spaced out" in their company as ideas came to me..

    May,

I had read volumes I&II back in the 1950s, and I am delighted they are still available. They were of great help to my wrting as a reality check in that no two writers had the same schedule or technique for writing.

I still remember Faulkner's comment regarding the ruthlessness necessary for an author: Ode on a Grecian Urn is worth any number of grannies.
