Chance encounters -- one with a past lover and another with an odd stranger -- set the novellas from Romannce / Romanze in motion. In "Tilden and Dewey: A Corporate Romance" two former lovers meet and realize what might have been. In "A Romanze for Martha" a woman whom love has passed by is drawn into a bizarre triangle with a wealthy gay man and his assistant. The characters in these narratives are mirror-images to all who know the struggle to commit to love and passion in an age increasing remoteness and alienation. Alexander has written works of aching beauty, stories which touch the heart as much as they tease the brain. Both "Tilden and Dewey" and "A Romanze for Martha" remain in the reader's mind long after as a haunting reminder of the price we pay for love, and even more, the consequence of its denial in our lives.
