Auntie Social

Auntie Social

Love books, love to read. Once read a hat/t-shirt slogan that sums me up well: What a perplexing life I lead: Do I stitch or do I read?

For the last several years, the answer has usually been read, although I do have a major needlepoint project in progress. I'll have to admit to being old enough that many of the books I have...more »

Of the books I have read recently, I enjoyed these the most: Geraldine Brooks - People of the Book; Brad Meltzer - The Zero Game; Arturo Perez-Reverte - The Nautical Chart; and Aaron Elkins - Loot: A Novel. If you read any of them, let me know what you think.

    Hi Auntie,
I am one of the "Trowel Trolls" that turn the garden centre into the 10th circle of Hell in the springtime:) My arthritis isn't bad right now, so I'm playing in the dirt as often as I can. Thanks for your note. I'm currently reading "Maynard and Jennica" by Rudolph Delson. I'm not certain that I like it--it is told from many points of view all at once, and the loose ends are tied up in the last few pages. Of course, I MUST find out how it ends, so I struggle on.
    Cheers,
    Laura

Hi, thanks for leaving me a note. I wish that I had some great recommendations for you, but lately my reading hasn't been very gripping. I've been reading some art books, but that's not everyone's cup of tea. I'll need to think about that some more. As for my library show, I'm doing OK. I have enough, and only a few more need framing (something I'm teaching myself to do with difficulty). I still need to write a biographical statement and an artist's statement, and I have to decide if want to be interviewed. Seems sort of egotistical or something. :)

Hi,Auntie. We are suffering thru a snow/rain/cold storm here in the midwest, so I'm cuddling up with some books. I've had a good streak of finding the ones I want at the library, but I don't expect that to hold for all the ones I want. I really enjoyed reading Hitler's Niece and my hubby is now reading that. I just started The Lottery by Patricia Wood. I'm finding I'm a real Tom Perrotta fan, too. Glad you sent me a message. I was beginning to think I was alone out here! Marti

Thanks for the Spring How-De-Do. Have read quite a few of the Rumpoles. I actually read them after watching some of the PBS series; I always picture Leo McKern as Rumpole now, he fit the character perfectly. I think he hits a note with me, being a bit of a closet anti-establishment myself (at least in my own mind).

I put down Straight Man for now. I've been enjoying too many other books right now to force myself to read something. How did you like An Absolute Gentleman?

I'm not actually in CO right now. I'm still stuck in NE where my doctors are. Well, my daughter and her significant other are here, too, as well as one son. We'll wait for the housing market to rebound before we seriously put the house on the market. Till then, we are having typical Omaha weather--snow one day and 60 degrees the next!
