Page Turner

I grew up in a house where if you were watching t.v. a job was found for you. If you were 'yakking' with friends on the phone, you needed to get off and find something to do. If you were participating in sports or absorbed between the pages of an amazing book...you were being productive. Now I'm in my 40's and am busy with work, husband,...more »

r Hi Page Turner on this lovely Sunday mornin, we too are in the middle of a mini Indian Summer, yes I do kn ow the term from way back. Our trees are barely turning as yet but I remember the gorgeous colours in Canada as I have been there that time of year at least 4 times. Once I was there in August so out of the five times I have visited Canada, i have been there in September and October. September I caught the maples but the October was all the rest of the colours, and with blue skies, blue lakes and yellow sunshine, a couple trees actually were pink with tinges of yellow (right by my friend's house), I miss it a lot. But I doubt I will get over again even with air miles, there is a lot of bother and my passport has run out and they cost a bomb now, let alone insurance, plus my heart is dicky now. So I can only dream and remember.
THis bout of nice warm weather is most welcome after the terrible summer we have had, and for the last three years.

Hi Page Turner, I rang my friend in Penentang. the other day. She said it was nice and the trees are all turning. When I have been in October, I kinda miss the Maples are they temd to turn in Sept, weel, when I have been there and I sort of miss them. I have taken some gorgeous pictures of trees in what was then my friend's front yard, they were actually pink, with the sun on them. WE don't much get really pretty trees in the autumn here, saw a few the other day better than the usual but those were od trees out, if you see what I mean. I guess it is just the the authority in my neck of the woods, puts basic trees in, not really pretty ones.

Hi again. Did you manage to finish The Time Traveller's Wife? I've heard a movie is being made based on it, with Rachel MacAdams and (I think) Eric Bana. I tried to read the book a few years back, but couldn't get past page 50 - I've since read that it is a very slow book to get in to, but worth it to keep reading. What did you think?

Hello there, I have never had smoked oysters, have had a few from one of the Scottish Lochs, Loch Fine actually, and they smell fresh, but not smoked. This does not like the spelling LOCH and puts a red line underneath the word,

Hi Page Turner. I love Canada, well the part I have been in, Ontario, such gorgeous colours in the Fall, nice people and a slower easier pace in the cou areas, lots of beautiful lakes and Toronto was great in the 60s. But I think it has a lot of bustle now, same as London. Where is it you live?

Ooohh - where have you been travelling to? (O.k. I see you spell "travelling" with 2 "L"s too. Is that a Canadian spelling? Every program on my computer gives me red squiggly lines underneath it!!!)

Hi Page Turner! I do, but I was not planning to add anyone I don't know in real life to my facebook. (It even took me a long time before I added anyone I didn't know here! Which is funny since everyone can read everyone's notes anyway!) Maybe it's silly, especially since I seem to be telling more and more about myself over here (which I know I probably should be more careful about), but there is a lot more personal info on facebook. I'm sorry. That's kind of funny, though - the past month or so, I've been spending quite a bit more time over here! I think because I've become more involved in a couple of my groups.

You're in the Eco-friendly group, too, right? That might be where I mentioned it...I think I may have mentioned the Earth Hour group that does Earth Hour the first of every month. Look into it if you're interested.

Hi! Thanks for the friendship request. We do indeed share both the Canada group and Ottawa in common, and, of course, a love of reading. Are you reading anything good at the moment? I'm reading Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere.

Wilkie passed away this summer at the ripe old age of 19. We miss him very much, but it was time. He had a pretty hard last few months as he lost function in his hind legs. I am not a dog but I have nothing but respect for dogs and I am honored to be mistaken for one. :)

Hi Page Turner, welcome to Play Book Tag! I know that our group can be a bit overwhelming considering how many discussion threads are active so I thought you might like a brief run-down of what's going on this month! First of all, every month there is a tag selected by a random member from the top 200 Shelfari tags. July's tag is fairy tales and August's tag is inspirational. After you read a book that fits this tag, post a short review on the discussion thread entitled Month's tag: our collective reads for our shelf. From there, the books will be put on the PBT shelf and discussion will most likely ensue!

Secondly, we started a new game on July first: Tag it to the Max. This game is a little more detailed but the general idea is that you are assigned a radom starting tag from the top 200 Shelfari tags by the admin (Ladyslott or againstthetide) and you then read a book for each consecutive tag, earning points for books read and reviews. If you are interested in learning more, you can find the full rules on the discussion Rules for Tag it to the Max. Then, if you decide you would like to play, simply state so in a post on that discussion thread.

Answers to other commonly asked questions can be found on the discussion FAQ for new members or you can ask any of the helpful admins! I saw The Handmaid's Tale on your shelf, I just finished that and really liked it. Have you read Oryx and Crake? That is another Atwood book I really liked. I am currently reading Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and am LOVING it! :)

    See you on PBT!

    Happy reading,
    Nicole
