I am a retired language arts teacher who loves to read, write, travel, and craft with paper (cards, scrapbooks). Married since 1971 to a native Coloradan (I was born in Ohio), I am active on my church's worship team and am a youth leader (which is where a lifetime of Methodism has taken me). I'm also active with my state NCTE affiliate, the Colorado Language Arts Society and edit an E-zine named Sophie-Sophia (soon to resurface from a too-long hiatus). Our daughter gave birth to our first grand child -- Isabella Grace-- on December 15 and I get to care for her on Tuesdays and Thursday in her home in Denver. Our son lives in Watsonville, California, where he works for Narconon as a counselor in drug rehab. California, Florida and Georgia are our favorite vacation destinations, but we also loved our 3 weeks in France this past summer.
My reading interests are varied: popular fiction (with a penchant for southern writers), historical fiction, contemporary nonfiction and biography, spiritual memoir (such as Madeleine L'Engle and Anne Lamott), and contemporary poetry (Donald Hall, Billy Collins, Mary Oliver, Nikki Giovanni). I am also a magazine junkie. When I write (not nearly often enough-- I am too undisciplined), it is primarily poetry and memoir.
I love music, sang for 30 years with a Sweet Adeline Chorus in Denver and have quite a conglomeration on my iPod shuffle: vocal jazz, Sixties' pop groups, Il Divo, classical and sacred instrumentals. . . some Jimmy Buffet and even a little Charles Aznavour.
Favorite quote: "No love. No peace. Know love. Know peace."
Favorite season of the year is spring, and the best part of growing up was living on a very small farm, going to a small town high school, and having a lot of quiet time to myself. I graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1968 with a degree in English and moved to Colorado all because of the film The Unsinkable Molly Brown!
