  • In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chicks: . . . And Other Complaints from an Angry Middle-Aged White Guy
    • Rated 4 stars

Laugh-out-loud funny in many, many spots, but SO bitter, harsh, and at times offensive that I could only read the book in small chunks. Overall though, I like what Adam Carolla represents and agreed with him frequently.

I made fun of this book at the height of its popularity and wanted to hate it, but Elizabeth Gilbert is so darn likeable and a very good writer; I must eat crow and say I liked it, especially after reading Committed first. I wasn't always sympathetic to her feelings and got a little bored with the India section, but overall I was entertained and inspired.

Excellent writing in the form of short stories about the life of a marriage relationship. It was often depressing though; I wondered many times if this couple (mostly him) even wanted to TRY to save their marriage?

I'm often inspired when I read about people with lives that are much harder than mine. So this book about the mothers of all the presidents of the LDS church was extremely inspiring (ugh!!).

I am no longer the last person around to have never read a Potter book (or seen one of the movies). Was made even better because I read it with my enthusiastic 7-year old son.

I see why this book is a classic and has been around for so many years! I found myself bookmarking many of the quotes and stories that can be applied at work, in family life, etc. It was more readable than I expected too.

Even though I didn't love many of the characters or situations in this book of short stories - they can be discouraging/upsetting - Lorrie Moore is so amazing with her observations and descriptions that I have to kick my rating up to 4 stars. Her Peed Onk story floored me - just, wow - and Real Estate was another very impactful selection.

Excellently organized and full of useful information presented in a way that is easy to understand. I learned a lot! This is a very recent version that accounts for the current market situation.

There was a lot of eye rolling from me as I read this because of characters were often cliche (oh! Rain is engaged to a short lawyer guy who wants to be a politican and her old boyfriend is a handsome writer who helps poor kids!), and I couldn't relate to many of their decisions. The writing wasn't great, and I was disappointed with the far-fetched story when the book had such an interesting premise.

Oh how I loved this book! So much funny stuff and awesome pictures from her life, plus I loved her essays on marriage and not peaking in high school. I need to save those for my kids to read or any teenager/young adult who will listen to me.
