I love to read almost anything, I have either a book or magazine handy where ever I go.most books that I lend never came back but that does not discourage me to keep on lending them, since I already read them and more of my friends can enjoy them....I rarely finish a book in one sitting, Not that I am a slow reader. Geze, I've finished with Austerlitz. It's very fine writing. Definitely worth your while, especially if you're interested in the subjects of European architecture, memory, and melancholy. The prose is very rich, not always humorless, and sometimes quite moving.

Geze, I take back what I said about Austerlitz. I'm halfway through it. The writing is boring to a certain point, and even suffocating! But once you get the hang of it, it can be very rewarding.

I haven't heard of Caro Levi, so thanks for recommending it to me. It's great to discover new writers.

Hey, Geze. Yes, I've started a few pages of Austerlitz. I'm reading it for the Sebald group. I find it sleepy and boring. Will let you know how it turns out in the end.

Hi! I’m from the Canada group, just popping by to let you know that we are trying to drum up interest in doing a group read. We have a thread started for anyone who is interested to let us know they are interested. Once we know there will be a few people, we’ll then decide on a book (Canadian author, of course!). Hope you decide to join us!

    Hey Geze!
Great to hear from you... where have you been?? Hope you are well!!

    Movies? LOTS!!
I can give you an exact number soon when I look at the list that I watched last year... although it is not as many as you would think... it is still enough :)
I kept a list so that I can do my Top 10 movies for 2009 (on the movie group)... when I get to doing this I will let you know :)

Movies based on books? Only 4 I think Twilight and New Moon... which I didn't like the books (I liked the movie of Twilight better... but not sure if there's much hope when I get round to watching the movie of New Moon because the book bored me to tears!)
The other two were "My Sister's Keeper"... the book was ok... over-rated in my opinion... the movie was even worse. And "The Lovely Bones"... the book was good... I liked the movie more.
I wanted to read "Time Traveller's Wife" before the movie came out... but ran out of time... perhaps I'll read it eventually and then rent the dvd... but I'm becoming so discouraged that I think I should stick to either movie OR book... and not do both so I can't compare them!

How about you? What was your best book and movie of the year??

I have read all of these and Travels with my Aunt. I'm not sure I am actually completing my self as I should. When I joined, it rapidly put a few of my favorite books on the shelf, but have not as yet competed it. I have taught Year 12 English/Literature for 26 years and have read an enormous amount both personally and for school, so I'm not sure where to start adding books.

If you want those sorts of experiences, then you can't go past Graham Greene: Our man in Havana, The Human Factor, The Power and the Glory...and... of course, Travels with my Aunt.
