Isabella [Ella] Robertson Christie (1861-1949), travelled widely in Asia and visited many countries including India, Ceylon, Malaya, China, Japan and Borneo. Her most significant trips were to Russian Turkestan in 1910 and 1912, and she was the first British woman to visit the state of Kiva. You can see pictures of her trip at

Crime novel about four women in the suburbs of Tokyo. It had a special interest for me as I lived in the neighborhoods depicted in the book....always makes me wonder who is sitting next to me on a train sometimes.

Much better than the movie. Plus, you learn more detail about the culture and specific dress styles then you do in the movie. Not a big deal to most, but living here in Japan it makes a big difference. One also has a better understanding of why Japanese men continue to have mistresses and hostess bars exist. Many don't like the ending but like the rest of the the book, life is a series of ups and downs
