Really good, considering it was written over a hundred years ago now! When I'm finished the Sherlock Holmes stories will be next...

Hey, does that ever sound cool. I always wondered what she is like. Was she nice? I like both of those books as well as The Robber Bride. Some I like more than others. Meeting Margaret Atwood sounds too cool to be true.

Hi, Selena. Keep writing, and good luck. Hope you can find a way to get your work out there. I like Atwood a lot. I wouldn't say I love her. I have mixed feelings about this book, but I am holding out to see where she is trying to go with this. As a male, reading her is like asking to be repeatedly hit over the head with a lead pipe, but I endure it anyway.

Thanks for respoding, and take care.

I'm now on page 252, and Cat's Eye has become as good any of the other Atwood's that I have read. It started awefully slow, but WOW, it's kicking into gear now that I'm half through it. (Handmaid's Tale, The Blind Assassin, and Oryx and Crake, all captured me on the first page). As for guitar, I've been playing guitar since 6th grade (and I'm 52 now, so I've been playing for a long long time!). I always wanted to be one of the best in the world, like another fine fellow from down under, Tommy Emmanuel. I never got as good as Tommy, but I still try and try and try to learn new things. If I am not reading I am either at school or practicing my guitar (I think one of the world's premeire guitar makers live in New Zealand, Laurie Williams. I love guitars!!!

Though I'm loving it I get little time to read it, my current book is Brideshead revisited. Istayed up late to read on even though my eyes were drooping I couldn't put it down.

Greetings. My site shows that you are reading The Year of the Flood. I'm about 2/3 of the way through. I looked through your shelf, and you seem to have very eclectic tastes. You also seem to like biographies and histories. We don't seem to have a lot of books in common. You might enjoy some of James Michener's novels--he does a lot of historical fiction. At any rate, have a great day.

I have advanced about 100 pages in Cat's Eye since I sent you the note. And yes, it is getting much more interesting; a story is definitely developing. I grew up as one of four brothers. We had no sisters, so it is good for me to read about the childhood development of girls (I am learning things that would havebeen good to know when I was much younger). It is also interesting to view boys and brothers through the eyes of a pre-pubescent girl. And yes, I am catching on to the "religion" that Elaine is getting through Grace's family. This is espcially interesting to me because I am the son of a Church of Christ minister, and WE were the Smeaths! It is so enlightening to see US and our religion through the eyes of a neighboring child with no church background. Snobbery is never a good thing, but Christian snobbery can be the worst, especially since any kind of snobbery is so anti-christian...my father judged others as though God's moral codes were his own personal idea. Dad was a good man, but his attitude in this was just wrong (he was human, after all.) I'm looking forward to finishing Cat's Eye. Thanks for answering my question.

I've recently become a huge Margaret Atwood fan, and am currently reading my 4th Atwood novel, "Cat's Eye". I've heard several Atwood readers proclaim that Cat's Eye may be Atwood's best, so I got into reading it as soon as I could. I am on page 75, and so far the story isn't holding my interest. I thought about giving up on it, but I checked your comments on "Cat's Eye" and they made me want to continue. So far, I'm reading marvelous descriptions of every mundane thing that crosses Elaines eyes, nose, or skin, but no story seems to be developing. It has been my experience that some novels don't become interesting until at least the halfway point, and some never become interesting until I'm finished, and then I'll sit back and think it all through and realize that a great story has been told, but all the pieces didn't come together until the last word! Is Cat's Eye one of those, or does it kick into gear before the half-way point?

I guess I'm not really an expert on Marilyn since I don't really know much about her. However, I'm starting to get into Michael Jackson again after so many years. I've started to listen to his music and watch his videos again. The sad thing is, the people didn't realize how much he will be missed until he is gone.

Like Marilyn, I think most of us would like to see ourselves on a different light. I dont' really know much about her but from what I can see, she was a very successful woman career-wise, she became a hollywood legend and an icon of style and beauty.

However, I'm not really sure if her life was as sad and lonely as most writer and biographers have portrayed it. Like us, Marilyn was only a human being and would have gone through life's hardships and happiness. I'm sure she's not as depressed as most writers would lead us to believe. I guess most writers are only focussing on a specific angle of her life and we are only seeing a piece of the overall picture.

    That's my opinion, anyway.

Hi there, thanks for the info. I found a good bio book of Queen Victoria in the kids' section. It's as good as bios found on Level 2. I did a quick skim of the book and it seems that Queen Victoria was probably one of the few monarchs who cared deeply for her people. She and Prince Albert improved the living conditions and incited a lot of reforms for the betterment of the country.

'Gay Haiku'?! Hahahaha! That is weird, I found it on the shelf upstairs and looks like it's written by a rejected and vengeful lover. Also, I found a good haiku written by and for women. Will definitely borrow that one. As for 'Hello Kitty' . . .maybe not. Haha!

Yeah, there seems to be a lot of Marilyn Monroe bios around. Some of them revolves around the 'is it murder or suicide?' theme. These authors should focus on another aspect of her life because there seems to be a lot of repetition going on.

Anyway, enjoy reading and see sometime at work! :)

Hi Selina. Sure, I'll add it to the group shelf. Yeah, I only remember ingrid Bergman on Casablanca. Right now I'm on a hunt for a good book on queen victoria (the movie got me into her, I guess) and some good haiku poems. I hope the library has some good ones :)

Hi Selina, thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely request that in the library. I'm still reading 'Fashion Babylon' . . . it's kind of similar to 'The Devil Wears Prada'. Anyway, I found a good biography of Elizabeth Taylor and Vivien Leigh that I think you might enjoy. I'll get back to you ASAP as to what their titles are. Cheers!
