Greetings Shelfari friend!Haven't been around much recently, too busy with life! How are things with you?Read anything good recently?I'm on my 75th book so far this year!Hope all is well...
A pleasure to know we enjoy reading the same books. Thanks for your recommendation.
I agree about Michener's books - loved all that I read, but didn't read all that he wrote. An oversight on my part, mainly. I'll pick up one every so often. And I love to learn history through reading - the way we learned it in school was so uninteresting. Even though fictionalized, one knows the author did research so that most of it is factual. What isn't won't matter much (to me) anyway! LOL.
Jr - Thanks for your note. Quite a few years ago I read a Hillerman book on suggestion of a girlfriend who loves his books. I wasn't taken as she was, so I've never tried one again. I'll rethink that and try again, though. I love your avatar; is it a painting you did yourself? I'd never ask except that you state that you're an artist, and it stands to reason that it might be one of your own. My sister has done watercolors for over 20 years, does them absolutely beautifully, and I own a couple of hers. (I tell her that if she becomes famous, I'll be the proud owner of a couple of Gomezes - and she laughs). This fall I joined a pen & ink w/roughing class and did three, which I loved; gave 3 to my kids as gifts and hung one on my FL home wall. There's talent in our genes, but not used much. This fall, when I return to FL, I hope to learn colored pencil drawing. What medium/s do you work in?
J Rthanx for the friendshipJASS!
It's a nice picture. You really have a gift.
Is your picture a sample of your art. I've always been drawn to lighthouses.
I have been enjoying the Southern humor.
No Problem. Your painting is beautiful. Oh, I love writing and reading. I can't really tell you how long I have loved reading, but It's been quite a while!
I must say that Death du Jour was a little disappointing. I think some of her other works were better. That's not to say it's a bad book, just that the other books in the series are better.Bad news about your son in law, let's hope he finds something soon.I do enjoy some jazz from time to time.
Happy 2009! How's it going so far?I've just finished Death du Jour by Kathy Reichs, Hold Tight by Harlan Coben and The Innocent also by Coben.Currently reading An Innocent Client by Scott Pratt. How are things with you?
sure...join....
You live in Arizona but did a painting of a lighthouse. Did you live on the east or west coast at one time? I'm from Maine and always wanted to convert a lighthouse into a home.
Dear JR: If that's your drawing of a lighthouse, it's really quite good. I’m an author from Massachusetts. My debut novel HUNTING THE KING was published in April.I saw on your bookshelf that you enjoy a mix of historical fiction with thrillers, among other types. If you enjoy reading a good historical thriller, you may well like HUNTING. The story revolves around a charismatic young woman named Molly O’Dwyer. Molly was five years old when she witnessed her mother's death in a fire. She never knew her father. After her mother's death, she was raised on the campus of a Jesuit college in Boston. Now an archaeologist, she is recruited to participate on a dig in war torn Iraq. As a scientist she is compelled to know who or what is buried under the sands of ancient Babylon. As a loyal Catholic, she is scared that what she finds may have devastating consequences for her faith. There is an awesome YouTube book trailer well worth watching to give you an idea of the power of the book. Thanks.
Even though I'd love to retire, I see myself still working in 15 years if the BIG MAN lets me hang around that long.....LOL.I do alot of Crazy Quilting which is my favorite. I like regular quilting though too.I read some...not as much as I'd like but I slowed down when I had to get bi focals. There are a lot of good ones out there.
Sorry it took me so long to reply....hardly ever on. I wish I had your talent and oh yes, good luck on that retirement. keep in touch.
Hi JR, thanks for the note. I have a lot of books on my shelves indeed: I filled them when I was at home with bronchitis and sitting quietly in front of the computer was all I was capable of! I'd just discovered Shelfari at the time, and my enthousiasm was still great. And like you I added them from other people's shelves when I saw something I'd read.
Must be a good breed in general. I've never heard anything but good about these dogs. Max was so good-natured, even when he was in pain and we'd try to help him move, he wouldn't try to bite or anything. Most dogs instinctively nip at you in that situation. It's like he knew we were trying to help. I will always miss this guy, even if he wasn't mine.
The only water I live near is the Ohio River. That is a pic of my vacation in Florida!!!!! Once a year me and the girls go for much needed R&R. LOL LOL You hav e got to read all of evanovich's books. I am addicted an can't wait for the next one. Now waiting for the 14th book out she has!!!!! Comes out in June I think. I laugh out loud with them!! I live in Indiana
