It is some time since I read this book but read it more than once. It had a better feel to it than Anne Rice's creation, although filmed that was fine. This is a book with five different stories that are connected and each, in their turn, were unusual. i liked it very much.

This is the first time I have read this author and although not the best vampire book in the world, it is fun at times and a different take on vampires in general. I like different. For instance, has anyone read 'The Vampire Tapestries'? very good in a different way. However, back to this book, I think I will try the next one in the series when I have the time, more a winter pursuit as I seldom get a lot of reading time during the summer months sO THOS OF YOU THAT LIKE VAMPIRE STORIES THAT ARE NOT TOO GRUESOME, THIS MIGHT BE THE ONE TO TRY, .Evelyn S

I have hardly begun this historic novel but am liking the story and the way it is written very much. Similar in style to that of Phillipa Gregory, does not detract from the story being told here. The author has previously written historical fact, many many books and about this era in particular so her branching out into a novel is somewhat of a different course for her to take, and none the less worthy for that matter. Many things in the novel have a ring of truth, the clothing and food of the period etc. I will be reading this book fast as it is one of those books you can read fast and take in most of what it written and best of all, enjoy. She has another novel coming out soon and I will be going for that one too on the basis of this novel being so fascinating and an enjoyable read, so much so that you can visualise yourself in the period. How could you not like the book that spawned many a movie. Movies ChANGE the written word, sometime sout of all recognition. More often than not, the book is much better than the movie because the author is the one who hd the original idea. Evelyn S

You have to read this book more than once to 'get' it. I wa ucky enough to do it in a class with an informed tutor who explAined some of it but then I read it myself. She is not an EASY author but worth the effort. Try some of her other books too. Evelyn S

I am currently partway through reading this book and am enjoying it as I have the others in this series. Laurell K. Hamilton has a hit on her hands here for me, better for me than her vampire series but I have not become so involved in that series as in this one., I give it 5 stars. Evelyn S
