  • The Drunkard's Walk: How Randomness Rules Our Lives

This book was really interesting. I do not have a strong grasp of mathematics so it was sometimes a challenge to follow. But it was worth the struggle. Definitely a good read for the layman. Although, it may be too simplistic for those with a background in the subject.

**spoiler alert** The first part of this book was excruciating. Taking 175 pages to describe one day is awfully excessive. I can appreciate an author who effectively paints a picture, but there is still something to be said for the ability to do it succinctly. Granted, this may have been done on purpose as Briony turns out to be the one writing. Either way it was a struggle to read. Luckily, things pick up a little after that. However, I never felt that the characters were very real. Overall I thought it was a really good concept but I didn't care for the presentation. I think it could have been much better than it was.

Very contrived storyline and not very well written. Quite frankly, I found the plot to be very dull. Affairs and damaged friendships should make for a very interesting story. However, I was fairly bored while reading it. I found the characterization difficult to believe and had the overwhelming feeling that I had been thrown back into junior high. Apparently, this genre is just not my thing...

As far as I can tell, this book did nothing but set the scene and then beg me to buy another book.

I can understand the hype. It has a compelling story and interesting insights. However,I feel that it fell a bit flat and that the characters weren't terribly believable. Overall: good book but just not my thing.

Hilarious. Much better than The Lost Continent. My faith in Bill Bryson is restored.

    Poorly written. Trite. Unimaginative. Sappy.

I was already converted to the ideas in this book before I read it. However, I did not think the author presented his argument very effectively. I left less convinced than I started. Although the author does present some interesting information, I am disappointed that he was not able to put together a more cohesive book.

Well, if you didn't already think I am strange you will now. I thought this book was hilarious. I wouldn't recommend it to most people. Just those with a bizarre sense of humor like me. Don't be deceived; this is definitely not a children's book

  • Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain

This was an interesting book although not what I was expecting. The author details many odd psychological cases he has encountered, all of which involve music. He has a writing style that is very easy for the layman (like me) to read. Although, after a while, I grew tired of story after story and would have liked more insight along with the examples.
