Hello to friends and fellow readers :)

Well, since joining this site, the books that i would like to read keeps on growing and growing... i wish i could read faster to keep up with it!! Finding more time to read is not the answer, because i have a lot of interests outside of the reading universe!!

However, my shelf does... more »

    Hi Joanne,

No worries I've replied late too - we all get busy at some point! :)

I didn't like Lonely Bones because I wanted the killer to get justice and for her family to get closure and know what happened to her. And instead everyone just moved on and the book ended! :( What did you think?

Let me know what you think of Twenties Girl - I'll try to read it again in the new year. I'll have more time to read then.

Blind Side is SO AMAZING!!!! I absolutely LOVE the movie! I just bought the book with the movie-tie in in hopes that it is better than the other book. I also figured that I could skip the parts I didn't like. Have you ever seen Rudy? I love that movie too (it's actually my favorite football movie) and Blind Side is right up there with it. I've been debating going to see it again! :)

New Moon was decent - better than the first movie but that is because it followed the book more. Since you liked the movie better than the book you may not like the movie this time...

Hope you're enjoying the upcoming holiday season!

    Hi again,

Sounds like you've had a real battle to finish that book! I'm up to 94 now. I think I've been lucky in that I've read very few duds this year so it's almost always been pleasurable.

It's not about the numbers though, it's just about enjoying reading I think! I'm just lucky (at least that's how I see it) that I have time to read and read really quickly so can get through a lot of books. It also seems to have accelerated my purchase rate, as I now have about as many books waiting to be read as I've read this year! And I'm confident some more will turn up in 27 days time... And I'd bet any money that I'll buy some more too!

    Recent good reads:-

    Tania Carver - The Surrogate
Gregg Hurwitz - I See You
    Gregg Hurwitz - We Know
Val McDermid - Report for Murder
Val McDermid - Booked for Murder
Val McDermid - Hostage to Murder
    Tess Gerritsen - Presumed Guilty
    Charles Higson - Happy Now
    David Kessler - Mercy
    Simon Kernick - Target
    Sandra Brown - Stand Off
    John Harvey - Off Minor

    Hi Joanne,

Time Traveler's Wife is something you should read before watching the movie. My dad/aunt seen it and were really confused and they never read the book. I've also heard that others felt the same way. After reading the book then seeing the movie it made more sense to me. Plus I liked the movie better than the book.

Yeah I wasn't a fan of the movie My Sister's Keeper. I cried in the book and thought it was better than the movie...

As for Lonely Bones it was good but I just didn't like the ending... Let me know when you're finished and I'll elaborate. I'm also surprised by the release date of this movie! I would think that it would be released at a different time than one of the happiest days of the year!

I never finished Twenties Girl... I need to read it but it's back at the bottom of the list because I have Suspicion (a series that I have no idea why I'm addicted too) and Nicholas Spark's new book to still read although I will not be getting much reading done between now and the New Year as I'm in the process of moving into a new house. So most of that will have to wait until January!

Oh on another note I just seen Blind Side and LOVED it!!! It is one of my all time favorite movies! I was in a really bad/sad mood when I went to see it and it put me in a better mood. It was funny and touching at the same time. A definite MUST-SEE! Tonight I'm going to go see New Moon - sadly I was looking forward to Blind Side than New Moon. But somehow I've got sucked into seeing New Moon twice in one weekend! :( Oh well it better be worth it! :)

    Hope things are well.

    Hi Joanne,

I just finished Suzanne's diary for Nicholas. I liked it and kind of had the end determined before it happened though.

I also finally got to see Accidental Husband, it was also cute but predictable!

How is everything with you? I've been busy which has limited the amount of reading I've been able to do. Plus I really just have not been in the mood. That will probably change in January when things die down.

    Hey Jo,
How is the painted house going? From memory this was a good read as most of Grisham's are. I'm slogging through the potato factory - this would have been a great book to take on holiday (probably not with a 3 yr old lol) as I'm not getting the time to read as I'd like. First open home planned this sunday - hope the wet winter weather improves! I'm battling with myself not to buy the new Diana Gabaldon book "An echo in the bone" since I have two library books due to be returned soon (Potato factory is one and I'm barely half way through)! But I love losing myself in her books.
Hope life is good with you - any plans for the weekend? You've probably already guessed my sum of the weekend - more cleaning aaahhhhhh!
    Take care

    Hi Joanne -

Sorry to hear you didn't like New Moon. Eclipse focuses on the fight with Victoria and has some interesting twists. Keep me posted if you like it or not.

Which John Grisham are you reading? He is one of my favorites but I have not read him in ages. I do own all of his books though.

I finished Lovely Bones today and was disappointed in it. It was pretty decent up until disc 5 then it just got rambely... I started Blind Side but didn't get far I'm crossing my fingers that it is good. I'm also still struggling through Twenties Girl, I don't think I've gotten past 50 pages I'll read a chapter then move on for a couple of weeks. Obviously hasn't grasp my attention just yet...

Well hope things are well - take care!

    Hey Jo,
    How are you?
Yep I blame my mum - she used to have lots of books by Doris Stokes which was my introduction to mediums etc. I used to watch sensing murder too although many were very sad. No I haven't seen him live before, but would like to one day too. I'm finally going back to my reading group tonight (first since April) and looking forward to getting some books to add to my tbr pile. Our house is up for sale and I'm so over it all ready lol - but on the up side the house and garden haven't looked so good in ages.

    Hi Joanne,

Good luck getting through if you're struggling that is not a good sign. Then again I'm still struggling to get through Twenties Girl. One day I'll finish it just had to renew it because I wasn't going to have it finished by Wednesday... Lonely Bones is starting to drag on... I have three more discs before it's done and I just don't know where its going and when it will get there... Maybe this is just a slow part. I now have two more books on tape - Blind Side and Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas... Hopefully I'll get to them sooner rather than later. Then I have the new Nicholas Sparks book to read. I also checked out the Sleeping Arrangements but returned it because Twenties Girl is taking forever... I wonder if I'm just in a lull and don't feel like reading... As for Time Traveler's Wife loved the movie not the book. Let me know your thoughts when you're done.

As for movies in the theater I'm dying to see one or all but just haven't gotten the motivation to go. I'm sure it'll be sooner rather than later as I'm starting to miss it... I really wanted to see Toy Story 1 and 2 in 3-D but I doubt I'll get there in the next two weeks... Like you I love kid movies! Wasn't much of a fan of UP though. I'm sad because I won't be able to see Young Victoria for a while... It's only being released at film festivals and there isn't a DVD release date set yet... I'll keep it on the radar though sounds good. Oh remember when I mentioned the Accidental Husband - it's finally being released on DVD in November. I'm planning to see it then, I'll let you know what I think.

    Hi Joanne,

So are you done with New Moon? I think the fuss with these books is the fantasy of the relationship between Edward and Bella. I know I got sucked into it and the fact it was just different. I think the other thing that I enjoyed was the different outlook of the vampire world. I also think the phenomenon dies after a while.

I'm doing well. I'm trying to read Twenties Girl again but I just can't get motivated to read it. I'm half way through Lovely Bones and I wasn't allowed to renew it so I returned it only to get it back again! Very excited. One of my co-workers and I will go see the movie when it comes out in December. I also just received Blind Side so I'll be reading that next! Very excited. As for movies I've taken a break and keep telling myself that the movies out there aren't that exciting even though part of me really wants to go watch one. Only issue is I've convinced myself that they are not worth going to see so now I can't decide which one I want to see! I can't wait until November 11th that's when New Moon and Blind Side comes out. Looking forward to it.

Hope you have a good weekend!

Sorry you have to drop your real-life book club. I was only ever in one once. I only knew one person and most of the people were teachers and I honestly didn't have much in common with them, so even the social side was not as interesting to me. I don't recall if I went once or twice. The one person I knew, I think, dropped it, so that's why I didn't go again.

Having to leave the cats at the shelter. Here's a tip - it's easier if it's a no-kill shelter. Also, realistically, you know you can't bring them all home! I have the added limit imposed by my landlord... ;-) I figure it's worth it to give those cats some love and attention. :-) And dancing is sooo much fun. I used to ballroom dance, but if you can't convince your husband, you could always try bellydance or flamenco or some other type of dancing.

    Hi Joanne,

It doesn't come out here until November but I'll definitely keep you posted. I can't wait to see it.

So what are you reading now? I just started a Mary Higgins Clark book - I'm trying to motivate myself to get back into reading (I'm in a little bit of a lull) and MHC is one of my favorite authors so I'm hoping she'll do the trick. Although one of my friends who also loves her didn't like this book so we'll see... I also just ordered the new Nicholas Sparks book so that should get me back into the swing of things as well. Either that or I may re-read one of my favorite books - Everybody Worth Knowing. That may do the trick too. We'll see.

Well I'm off to bed we'll talk more later - have a good night/day.

    Hey Jo
Yes Monkey Puzzle is a goodie. Ana loves listening to this in the car along with about 5 other stories from the same author including A squash and a squeeze! Ah I remember our lads getting into the same books along with Paul Jennings and Morris Gleitzman (not sure if I've spelt that right). You have my sympathy re visits to the chryo. I'm trying not to carry Ana or sit her on my hip as this caused back problems years ago plus lifting a heavy cage basket full of sandpit toys with a bent back wasn't the smartest move either (that took years to get better)!
I know what you mean about not looking although we are are doing just that tomorrow afternoon although this isn't on the market at the moment so there is not pressure either way. We looked last sunday at a property which I would put in my "interested and if still available when we well here will look again" box. Its really hard to gauge the market as so many houses similiar to ours in this area have gone auction which is a pain but not an option we've considered for the moment but who knows.
I liked some of the ideas from the To do list that his very organised Canadian friend did. The pen idea was superb although some may think totally weird, but I go nuts when pens have walked off and like the idea of having pens in places all over the house! This may backfire if Ana discovers these first and decides on doing a bit of decorating of her own!
My running buddy workmates came up with Frock Friday to encourage them to dress up a little since their workplace dress is quite casual. I thought I might adopt it too to add a bit of sparkle at the end of my week although maybe today isn't the best with forecast of strong norwest winds!
Jeeze I just had a mild "heart in the throat moment" with my Clown loaches who are hinting to be fed beside me, but they have this weird behaviour of lying on their sides as the largest one just did which makes me immediately think its dead! ...
Hi ho, hi ho, its back to the big clean up I go - have a great day and catch you again soon

    Hi Jo
    How are you?
My reserve for "The to do list" appeared sooner than anticipated so I started reading it the other night and I'm enjoying it so far. I did try reading Black Swan Green but I'm not sure if its the smaller print or just me going to bed too late, but I gave that away within a few chapters but will come back to it one day! Its good timing even thinking about "To do lists" as I have one on the go while I'm busy systematically cleaning and clearing out the house and gardens in preparation to place on the market in a fortnight's time! We've decided now is the time to follow our dreams of living on the land and at present this is a daily but cruisy affair but I'm anticipating this may change as the fortnight draws to an end! We only have our own imposed time frame so have something to work towards but already I can see this will have a hiccup with Chris on Conference on the 6th but its giving me a sense of direction and focus for now. We are going to try not getting our hearts set on a property until this is all done and dusted!

Hows your back? I'm back running and its plod plod plod but I'm going to bite the bullet and do 80 minutes on Sunday (and yes walkers will be passing me but at least I'm out there trying....). These breaks from running with illness are challenging but much better with my training buddy ;)

Started toilet training Ana today (thought I'd better with the weather on the improve) and we had some success today and she is highly motivated with stickers and Freddo frog rewards at the moment! Tomorrow will be interesting at Playcentre but I'm not expecting miracles overnight! 17 year old son is unimpressed with the potty in public view (he has a girlfriend coming over regularly so the family is a constant source of embarrassment to him GROAN)!
I see the Gruffalo on your shelf as I'm writing this message and highly recommend "Stickman" but the same author - this is going to be Ana's Christmas book this year. A lovely feel good story.
Take care and catch up again soon
