“I'd give it three and a half stars if I could -- Tartt makes her characters well-rounded and sympathetic without resorting to cuteness, but her descriptions of the town go way overboard, to the point that she has to stuff them into parenthetical asides just to get all the details in. And the ending made me want to throw the book across the room.”
