“Although i don't like to criticize, I feel responsible to at least explain why I gave this book only one star. I read through the whole book, and I was borderline offended. Two main points dominated this book: reciting a prayer yields blessing and what you should pray for are blessings for yourself. The first point is my impression that the power to make things happen is in the words of your prayer rather than the heart behind it. I felt that Wilkinson was saying that if you recite the prayer of Jabez, you will be blessed; the condition of your heart and your willingness to be the Lord's fully devoted servant were not stipulated as they should've been. Secondly, almost everything in that prayer was a prayer for MY blessing. I can't recall any part that included praying for others or humbling one's self; instead the prayers seemed extremely self-centered. Even what Wilkinson said about "enlarging my territory" being analogous to those I influence for Christ, it seemed as though he was saying that he wanted God to expand his circle of influence - as if it belonged to him. We are all surrounded by people who need Christ, not us. The Holy Spirit will call us to be messengers of Christ and we should always be a witness; our goal shouldn't be "grant me more followers". I hope this clarified why I rated this book so low. If you believe I am mistaken on these points, please write a note and let me know what you think.”
