Hi, When I am looking for a new book to read, I open my favourites and back track other people that have also given similar reviews and have similar tastes to the books I have enjoyed reading. (I also do this with amazon and other book club lists when I'm wanting to find more 'favourite' books). I'm now hoping to find a few more "must reads" or '4-5 star' rated books for the coming month, as my wish list doesn't grab my interest at the moment. (I haven't joined any online book clubs yet. Only face to face ones in my area.) Happy reading to you and thanks for the time you've taken completing your rating of your books.

    Hi!

I really liked Dracula. I thought it stayed true to Stoker, if a bit simplified, and I really enjoyed how it showed the erotic nature and allure of the vampires. I think my favorite was Dracula dancing with Harper in the beginning. Did you get to see it?

    Hi BC,

Hope all is well with your family. I've missed your input while your were gone and was wondering how it is that we're not friends (or followers, as it's now called). Anyway, I like your shelf and your reviews!

    Cheers,
    Sabina

I grew up in Fontana (on Lake Geneva) and my sister still lives in Elkhorn, so I know your area well. Our weather has been dry, dry, dry with a huge wildfire, but we've had rain the past several days and today has been very fall-like. My avatar is a "monster" one of many I collect hanging above my fridge (www.bungledjungle.com). I wanted to follow you because of the books you read. I've listed several on my shelf to read and I have been reading more voraciously lately than ever in my life. Loving it, especially knowing winter is coming and I'll have more time (when I"m not working overtime at my job or trying to get my ecommerce site going www.hooplagallery.com). Lots of work!

I have only read one of his novels, Three Exemplary Novels which is a nod towards a Cervantes work called An Exemplary Novel. He is an intellectual and was the chair, twice, of the University of Salamanca. He was active around the 20's and 30's and opposed Spain's dictatorships. The one before Franco actually exiled him for 6 years. I know of him because Borges speaks of him on occasion in his short stories and I was curious as to whether that was a real name or not (with Borges, even the book he is reviewing at the time may not have been real). He was fairly prolific having written novels, essays, poetry and even some drama. I read my novel of his back when I was in college and don't remember the details but I do remember contemplating it for a long time.

    Hi,

    Kira Kira

Its really a book for younger readers but I liked it.

It is about a Japanese family who start out living in Iowa, the struggles they have (monetary issues, racial issues) told from the point of view of their youngest daughter. The two main characters are really the daughters.. it is an emotional tale and becomes more so as the elder girl becomes ill.
A short quick read but it brings up some interesting issues that are well described and dealt with.

    I would recommend it...

I do have a lot of books on my shelf! More than I can probably read in a lifetime, but a girl can dream, right? I did peruse your shelf and found some great books that I did add to my own shelf. We seem to have quite a few interests in common. I live near Houston, Texas. Boy, is it hot outside today! Happy Reading!

I work with Betsy and she got me hooked on this website and I saw that she was following you so I decided to check out your collection. I love to read and am always looking for a good book! There are several in your collection that I plan to download samples of and try them. I am currently reading The Paris Wife. It is OK and I won't give on it, but it's not necessarily a page turner. That said, I'm ready for it to be done so I can get my next great book!

Hey Tess, I just got back from going to a Borders that is closing down (they are at the 50-70% off sale). One really cool book I bought made me think of you. Sun, Stone and Shadows: 20 Great Mexican Short Stories. Octavio Paz, Carlos Fuentes, Alfonso Reyes and Ines Arrendondo are the only writers I recognize. So that means there are another 16 Mexican writers to learn about.

That's great ! Do you like seafood or do you need a fix on TEXMEX food?

My mom's b-day is also in June (in the middle of the month), her 81st !!!

There are alot of Sanchez' in this town but who knows - it could be possible!

Have you read Sarah Addison Allen's new book " The Peach Keeper " . I read it this weekend - I really
    enjoyed it.

And speaking about cascarones - I have one of those "OH NO" story to tell you.
This Easter season - a friend of mine has to go to a rosary right after work. Well, before she left - one of her friend cracked a cascarone on her head. You know the routine ( shake your hair, brush, shake your hair some more etc...). Well, she finally got to the rosary and went on to the coffin to pay her respects.
She bend her head forward to pray and..... You Guess It !!!! A big clog of confetti fell in. She told me: " in that situation - what do you do? You can't just pick it out !!!!" So she finished praying, she got up - then shook hands with the family and got out of there!! Has she was telling a group of us -- we all were yellin' OH NO! OH NO!!!.

I hope you had a HAPPY EASTER !
