    Ziad says

Be content with that which Allah has given you and you will be the richest of people

Wealth, appearance, children, house, and talents you must be content with your share in these things:

So hold that which I have given you and be of the grateful. (Qur'an 7: 144)

Most Islamic scholars and pious Muslims of the early generations of Islam were poor; needless it is to say, then, that they did not have beautiful houses or nice cars. Yet, despite these disadvantages, they led fruitful lives, and they benefited mankind, not by some miracle, but because they used all that they were given, and spent their time in the correct way. Hence they were blessed in their lives, their time, and their talents.

On the contrary, there are many people who have been bestowed with wealth, children, and all forms of blessings, yet these blessings have been the very reason for their misery and ruin. They deviated from what their inborn instincts were telling them, namely, that material things are not everything. Look at those that have obtained degrees from world-renowned universities, and yet they are paragons of obscurity. Their talents and abilities remain unused. Meanwhile, others who are limited in the scope of their knowledge have managed to make mountains out of what they have been given, benefiting both themselves and society.

If you are a seeker of happiness, be satisfied with the looks Allah has favored you with, with your family situation, with the sound of your voice, with the level of your understanding, and with the amount of your salary. Certain educators go further than this by saying that you should imagine being contented with even less than you actually have now.

Here for you is a list of those who have shone from our Islamic heritage despite each being challenged by various disadvantages:

Ataa ibn Rabah was a world-renowned scholar of his time. He was not only a freed slave and snub-nosed, but he was also paralyzed.

Al-Ahnaf ibn Qays was famous among the Arabs for his singular level of patience. He achieved that fame despite being emaciated, humpbacked, with crooked legs and a fragile frame.

Al-A`mash was among the most famous scholars of hadith in his time. He was a freed slave, he had bad eyesight, and he was poor. His clothes were ripped, his appearance was disheveled, and he lived in straitened circumstances.

In fact, every Prophet was at one time or another shepherd. Dawood (David) was a blacksmith, Zakariah (Zacharia) a carpenter, and Idrees (Enoch) a tailor; and yet they were the best of mankind.

Therefore your value is in your abilities, good deeds, manners, and contributions to society. Do not feel grief, then, over that which has passed you by in life in terms of good looks, wealth, or family; and be content with what Allah has allotted for you.

It is we who portion out between them their livelihood in this world. (Qur'an 43: 32)

Remind yourself of Paradise, which is as wide as are the Heavens and the Earth.

If you are hungry in this world, if you are sad, ill or oppressed, remember the eternal bliss of Paradise. If you do this, then your losses are really profits and the hardships you face are really gifts. The most wise of people are those that work for the Hereafter, because it is better and everlasting. And the most foolish of mankind are those that see this world as their eternal abode - in it reside all of their hopes. You will find such people to be the most grief-stricken of all when faced with calamity. They will be the most affected by worldly loss simply because they see nothing beyond the insignificant lives that they lead. They see and think only of this impermanent life. They wish for nothing to spoil them in their state of felicity. Were they to remove the veil of ignorance from their eyes, they would commune with themselves about the eternal abode - its bliss, pleasures, and castles. They would listen attentively when they are informed through the Qur'an and the Sunnah about its description. Indeed, that is the abode that deserves our attention and merits our striving and our toiling, so that we may achieve the best of it.

Have we reflected at length about the description of the inhabitants of Paradise? Illness does not befall them, grief does not come near them, they die not, they remain young, and their attire remains both perfect and clean. They are in a beautiful home. In Paradise is found that which no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human mind has imagined. The rider travels under a tree in Paradise for one hundred years and yet he still does not reach its end. The length of a tent in Paradise is sixty miles. Its rivers are constant, its castles are lofty, and its fruits are not only close-by, but are also easily picked.

Therein will be a running spring. Therein will be thrones raised high, and cups set at hand, and cushions set in rows, and rich carpets [all] spread out. (Qur'an 88: 12-16)

The happiness of Paradise will be absolute. So why do we not contemplate this fact?

If Paradise is our final destination and we ask Allah for Paradise - then the hardships of this world are less heavy than they may seem, so let the hearts of the afflicted ones find solace.

You who live in poverty, or are afflicted with calamity, work righteous deeds so that you shall live in Allah's Paradise. Peace is upon you, because you persevered in patience! Excellent indeed is the. Final hornet (Qur'an 13: 24)

    Salam Again;
Is any contact between Jinn and human beings possible? (It is heard that Jinn and Ins"humans" have marital relation). Can Jinn attack human beings and cause physical injury? It is believed that Jinn enters the body of human beings, and the person acts as if he is the Jinn who orders innocent people for financial purposes. Your comment please.
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

    1) Supposedly a human being can marry a female Jinni, but this is Haram in Sharia, for the following Divine statements in the Qur'an: "And Allâh has made for you wives of your own kind, and has made for you, from your wives, …"[16:72] He also Says: {And among His Signs is this, that He created for you wives from among yourselves, ….}[30:21].
Commentators, while explaining above two verses, said: 'He has created spouses for you from among yourselves means from your kind, genus and innate character. Imam al-Suyouti in al-Ashbah Wal Nazaer book deducing from the above two verses said: 'If one says: What is your opinion concerning such a marriage? I say: I believe it is Haram'. Then, he added: 'It was reported that al-Hasan al-Basri, Qatadah, al-Hakam Ibn 'Uiyayna and Ishaq Ibn Rahawaih prohibited it, i.e. the marriage between a human being and a female Jinni'.
Al-Jammal al-Sijistani, a Hanafi scholar, in his book 'Muniyat al-Mughni An al-Fatwa al-Sirajiah' said: 'Marriage between a human being and a Jinni is Haram due to difference in species'. Al-Jammal mentioned also 'other reasons to such a prohibition since marriage is enacted for the purposes of (1) familiarity, (2) repose, (3) intimacy, and (4) cordiality that are lacking in case of marriage between a human being and Jinni'.
In addition, 'there is no evidence in Sharia that authorizes such a marriage. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {… then marry (other) women of your choice, …}[4:3].
'Here, the word "Women" indicates the human females in particular. This means that it is Haram to marry other females, since the basic Asl, or principle, refers to the prohibition of delighting in pudenda (the sexual parts) until an evidence is stated for legality'.
'In the same vein, Islam prevents a free man to marry a female slave since her children will be harmed with being slaves. Without a doubt, harm that will befall a child from a female Jinni is worse than harm of xxx, which is possible to eliminate. Also, such a child will be with a blemish from the form and character of the Jinn due to his/her relations and mixing with them (Jinn)'.
Indeed, marrying a female demon has been prohibited for what is previously stated. It is also prohibited lest some pregnant woman may claim that she is pregnant from her Jinni husband. Such a state will increase moral corruption.
Al-Mawardi said concerning marriage between human beings and Jinn: 'Minds disapprove such a marriage since there is difference between the two species, i.e. mankind and Jinn. They also have different natures; a human being is corporeal while a Jinni is incorporeal; the first is created from sounding clay like the clay of pottery and the latter from fire free of smoke. Thus, intermingling in such a case of difference is repulsed and sexual reproduction is barred'.
Finally, we say that marriage between a human being and a female demon, if it is possible although it is unlikely, will result in so many blights since the female Jinni can appear in many shapes. Then, how can one trust that this female is his wife? Maybe she is not. To be valid, marriage needs a guardian and two just witnesses, and woman should be free from Sharia prohibitions (like Iddah or Ihram state). Perhaps it is impossible to meet all the above-stated due to difference in nature of the two species, i.e. the mankind and Jinn.
    2) You ought to know that the devil's cunning/deceit is weak and he can not harm a believer who takes shelter with Allah.
Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {… Ever feeble indeed is the plot of Shaitân (Satan).}[4:76]. He also Says (interpretation of meaning): {"Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghâwîn (Mushrikûn and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evil-doers, etc.).}[15:42].
Thus, the devil has no dominant influence except over those whose Iman is weak, those who are shunning Allah's remembrance and those who indulge in bad misdeeds. So, the devil will share a house with the above-mentioned people and may encroach upon them, in their bodies and property.
Thus, a Muslim has to protect himself/herself with Allah's remembrance such as: (1) reciting al-Baqara (cow) Surah in a house keeps the devil away, (2) mentioning Allah's Name when eating, drinking and entering the home denies the devil access to food and an overnight stay, and (3) mentioning Allah's Name just at the moment of having sex with one's wife prevents the devil from having any form of enjoyment.
The devil, in fact, takes up lodgings in places of disobedience. So, one has to purify one's house of prohibitions such as statues, musical instruments, singing, dog and pictures, which prevent angels from entering the house.
    3) As for a Jinni entering into a human being, we say that such is a known accomplished fact. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {Those who eat Ribâ (usury) will not stand (on the Day of Resurrection) except like the standing of a person beaten by Shaitân (Satan) leading him to insanity. …}[2:275].
The devil may harm a human being down, Allah willing, by acts of same magician or due to the human being injustice and aggression to gain some worldly benefit or desire.
It is Haram to obey the devil's orders concerning slaughtering and so on. But, the legitimate method to treat epilepsy is through al-Ruqyah al-Shar'iyah, i.e. Qur'anic recitations and prophetic supplications. Consult .
    Allah knows best.

    Salam Rukia;

want to know about Jinns. Where they live, how they live, their life style, their bodily structure, their power/strength, what they eat, how they born everything. Will you please inform me about them?

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

We can not mention everything about the Jinn in this Fatwa. However, we would highlight briefly the points you asked about. Jinn are subject to the Commands of Allah the same as human beings. Therefore, some of them are Kuffar, some of them are dissolute and others are Mumin. For more details you may refer to the books written on this subject. For example, you may read the book "Aalm al-Jinn wa al-Shayaatin" (The world of Jinn and Devils) written by Dr. Umar Sulaiman al-Ashqar. We use this book as a basis for the following Fatwa.
    1) Residence of Jinn: they live in the same earth where we live but they live mainly in deserts, ruins and impure places such as toilets, garbage dumps, and graveyards. They also exist in abundance in markets.
They also live in the same house where human beings live. But whenever Allah's name is mentioned or Allah is Glorified or the Qur'an is recited, especially Surah al-Baqarah, they flee away from that place.
    2) Their food, drinks and life-style: Jinn eat and drink as proved in Sunnah that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said that every bone on which Allah's name was mentioned would be full of meat for Muslim Jinn, and dung of animals becomes feed for their cattle. For this reason the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) prohibited using bones and animal dung to clean oneself. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "Do not cleanse yourself with bone or dung because they are the sustenance of your brothers from amongst the Jinn". [Reported by Imam al-Tirmizi and others].
The devil eats and drinks with his left hand.
Jinn also marry, propagate and die as reported in Sahih al-Bukhari that Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) used to say: "I seek refuge (with you) by your 'Izzat' (Might), None has the right to be worshipped but You Who does not die while Jinn and human beings die". (al- Bukhari)
Satan has a very ugly face. Allah made the fruits of the tree of 'Zaqqoom' that springs at the bottom of Hell-fire, similar to the heads of Satans. Allah makes them similar to the heads of Satans because all human beings have fixed in their minds a very bad and ugly figure of Satans (the bad Jinns).
Allah made the Jinn able to adopt new forms or shapes as He granted them speed in movement and motion. An 'Ifrit' (strong) from Jinn promised Sulaiman (Alaihi Salaam) that he would bring the throne of the Princess of Yemen to Jerusalem in less than the period of raising one's from his sitting. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {An Ifrît (strong) from the jinns said: "I will bring it to you before you rise from your place (council). …}[27:39].
Satan also can adopt the shape of a human being and an animal, especially the shape of a black dog.
Allah says that the plot of Satan is very feeble. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {…Ever feeble indeed is the plot of Shaitân (Satan).}[4:76]. And he does not have any authority over His believing slaves. Satan's power is only over those who obey and follow him, and those who join partners with Allah. It is proved in a Hadith that Satan used to flee from Umar (Radiya Allahu Anhu); he did not walk in a street but Satan moved in another one.
On the other hand, he is so weak that he can not open a closed door if the name of Allah is mentioned upon it as narrated by Imams Ahmad and Abu Dawood with a sound chain.
    Allah knows best.
