I love the Shelfari community, and have been having a blast since I joined. If you send me a friendship invitation, drop me a line and let me know why. Do we have a lot of books in common?

I love to read. (Doesn't everybody's profile start like that?) Anything from cereal boxes to too many magazines to trashy books to books... more »

I'm about to start From a Buick 8 and I noticed that you haven't read this one, even though you've read a lot more King than I! I recommend Heart Shaped Box by his son Joe Hill, I think his name is. Pretty scary!

Dear Vicki: I noticed some intersting books on your shelf. One about Jesus having lived in India. Another about Jesus's brother. You might be interested in my debut novel HUNTING THE KING, too. The novel revolves around a charismatic young woman named Molly O’Dwyer. Molly was five years old when she witnessed her mother die in a fire. She never knew her father. After her mother’s death, she was raised on the campus of a Jesuit college. Now an archaeologist, she has been recruited to participate on a dig in war torn Iraq. As a scientist she is compelled to discover whatever or whoever is buried under the sands of ancient Babylon. As an observant Catholic, she is scared that whatever she finds will have devastating consequences for her faith. There is a wonderful YouTube book trailer well worth watching if you have the chance. If you do get to see, please let me know what you think. Thanks. Peter

"The Progess Paradox: How Life Gets Better While People Feel Worse" looks interesting! Let us know what you think. Almost everyone in the USA seems to feel more stressed out, though we live in a most amazing and bountiful country. It's hard feel great, with prices skyrocketing, being on the defensive in the world, and with a war going on. In addition, I think the media has learned that frightening people sells copy, so most of the news we see on TV, the internet and in the papers, is anxiety provoking. There have always been disasters, accidents, diseases, gruesome murders, child abusers, stock market fluctuations and things of that sort, but they are in our faces every day now, without many positive stories to balance them out.

As for books -- Heidi was my favorite book as a kid. A Prayer For Owen Meany is way up on my list too. I love stories about coming of age (especially in other cultures) and books about travel. I also like bios and autibios -- Wally Lamb's collections of stories by women in prison is set in his home state -- CT! By the way, we have fantastic "Friends of the Library" bookstores in Hawaii, with most books costing between 25 cents and 2 dollars. Needless to say, as a volunteer there, I bring books home by the boxful!
