What can I say. If you like Christopher Moore's style, you'll love this book.

Not one of Hillerman's best novels in my opinion, but like all of his books, a great way to spend a few hours, particularly on a plane or on vacation.

This is one of the books you either love or hate. It applies to a particular set of tastes. The book if funny but strange, requiring you to learn to accept that bad things happen to bad people, and that while not necessarily pleasant, you're glad it happened. Tim Dorsey is brilliant at taking a diverse set of characters and bringing them together into one cohesive story. I've read the first 4 Tim Dorsey Books and enjoyed all of them ... Florida Roadkill, Hammerhead Ranch Motel, Orange Crush and Triggerfish Twist. Read them in order because some characters are in all 4 books. Only read them if you have a weird sense of humor.

I'm biased because I have liked most of Christopher Moore's books. I started with Lamb on the recommendation of a friend, then went on to read everything he has written. Fluke is a fast, funny, original read. Great entertainment.

I find it interesting that this book gets such rave reviews. I found it fairly hard to read. While some stories were interesting, it seemed as though any time she went over 4 or 5 pages in a story, it dragged. While people talk about her wit, I found almost every story dark and depressing, as though the stories were trying to hide a deeper sadness that Hempel was trying to release but could never quite get to. Perhaps I was simply in the wrong state of mind or in the wrong physical space to really appreciate this book. I was on vacation, very happy, and in a wonderful place among friends. This book seems to call for a dark rainy or snowy day.

Or maybe its just me. So many other people have said good things about the book that I feel I must be missing something.

When I first read this book in high school, I didn't really understand it. I didn't have the life experiences necessary. I picked it up and re-read it last year in one sitting. The characters and experiences reminded me of parts of my own life.

I found this book interesting, but not as compelling as some others have seemed to find it. For me, a lot of the the themes were familiar, as were a lot of the real and conceptual technologies, so it didn't quite grab me like I hoped it would.
