I have always been a lover of literature, and I will certainly always be. I could never remember a time in my life where I was not reading (well, not reading in a 24/7 cycle), but I have always loved books. I've had to have a book in my hand whenever I am not doing chores I do daily, or else I'd feel fidgety. When I was younger, most of my reading materials were fiction (who could forget Sweet Valley Twins; Sweet Valley High; Mills & Boon; and the Nancy Drew Mystery series? I have hundreds of these), but as I grow older, my range had spread wider. Holy spirit- inspired books, World History, biography of famous and important people who have contributed something good in the history of the world have now been added to my list of materials. Fictions are no longer in my top 10. I have read most if not all books by Danielle Steel, Harold Robbins and Sidney Sheldon, but I don't read these kind of material anymore. Once in a while someone would give me Danielle Steele books, and to my surprise it will be set aside for weeks before I find time (or a desire) to read it. But I have collected all her books when I was in my 20's. I still have them, and I still read fiction stories, but my taste no longer crave for romantic fictions/novels anymore... at least not as much as I used to. Nothing bad with these romance novel though, mind you. I just don't go for too much drama scenes in the mind anymore, and friends, nothing bad with that either. It's just a matter of personal choice, that's all.
The fact of the matter is, I could no longer remember the titles and authors of the books that I have read many, many years ago, but I could tell you that in my 39 years of living, I would say I spent 30 years reading, and that's excluding the ABC's I learned in kindergarten, and school text books all through college.
To give a rough estimate, I believed I have read thousands of books in my whole life. I physically only stand 5 feet, but if I would stand next to a stack of books I have accumulated over the years, they'd look like a tower next to me. And if I will connect every pages of them, it will surely extend from Philippines to USA in miles.
Reading for me is not only educational, but it's also a way of exploring a world beyond our spectrum. It broadens the ability of the mind to grasp certain things. It elevates the mind power.
I would encourage friends to read, and read, and READ.....oh, but what a wonder it is to be able to read, and to have the ability and the gift TO LOVE to read. There surely is power in reading.
