Books to the sky,
My pile of books is a mile high.
How I love them! How I need them!
I'll have a long beard by the time I read them.

well, right after i said that, i saw the author on the today show and felt really bad about not liking the book so much. i fell in love with him!! he was the most adorable, humble, quiet spoken and sweet man. so i am going on. i was keeping in mind that this is a first book and, it is a good first book. it is just missing some marks for me in several areas. but as i keep reading, the story is improving. the writing is almost good. but who the hell am i to say.

Just wanna say hi! Been to the library the other day but unfortunately, they don't have the book or maybe somebody borrowed it. The librarian will just call me if they happen to have the book I'm asking for. I'm already looking forward reading it. Could you recommend other books on your list? Thank you!
    Take care!

I'm in the middle of "American Pastoral" right now (oh, you may have read that at BBD) and it's wonderful. I think you will really "get" it.

Hi! I've been trying to look for the book you've recommended but it's not a success. Maybe I need to go to the library for it.

Thanks for the suggestion - we have a copy of Touching the Void and I've added it to the stack of books to read before summer is over. Did you see the film? While I can't imagine actually climbing a mountain myself, it is thrilling to read about. Here are several more that might interest you - The Eiger Obsession (John Harlin III), Ghosts of Everest: The Search for Mallory & Irvine (pretty cool book - lots of historic photos!), and To the Top: reaching for America's 50 state summits (Glickman & Akerlund). The last one even has an entry for Alabama! Enjoy yourself - thanks for keeping in touch.

Noticed that you have Forever on the Mountain on your wish list - I just finished it and thought it was exceptionally good.

Hi Alfred! How are you? Hope I could find that book. Coming from you, I should really read that. Maybe I have to ask our City Librarian if they have it. You know Philippines is. Of course I'm proud to be a Filipino.
    Thank you by the way.
    Keep in touch po!

    you're very welcome...

(grins) I always thought the reason why some people walked away hating LD is because Gus McCrae dies at the end...they want 'happily ever after' and you dont get it w/ Gus dead...lol, I went on the same kick back in the 80's, too, I mostly ended up liking only the LD series and his Berrybender quartet...he has a new memoir out, btw, about his life as a reader, aptly titled, Books: A Memoir, which came out just a few weeks ago...

I've got multiple books going myself, and I'll be adding another two when amazon finally deigns to deliver the batch I ordered making my reading even more chaotic than usual...ack!

Hi Alfred! I must say that I enjoyed Harry Potter series the most. But it doesn't mean that I won't enjoy reading other books. I would appreciate it if you recommend some good books. Thank you! maricel

Alfred, thanks so much for your note and for the great recommendation! Eerily enough, I am in the midst of reading "The Three Musketeers" - my first Dumas - as part of a group read with one of my Shelfari groups, Brilliant Babes (and Dudes). Silly name perhaps, but a good group, and one you should think of joining!

Anyway, I'm enjoying the book very much, and will definitely read more Dumas. I just finished a wonderful read, too - "The Woman in White" by Wilkie Collins, which I loved, and I'm now on a Philip Roth kick, reading "Zuckerman Bound" - the collection of his Zuckerman novels. He's a dazzling genius, that's all I can say.
