Hansi the Girl Who Left the Swastika

    by Maria Ann Hirschmann

Great true story about a young German girl who is recruited into the Nazi youth. After Hitler's suicide she starts to realize how wrong they all were and later becomes a Christian. I had never read about the war from a Nazi perspective before.

You know when you read a book and you can't stop thinking about it for days...well, that is this book for me. I can't put it back on the shelf because I want to feel like I'm still reading it.

Amazing story of the Father of the Methodist's. This preacher was truly the layman's minister, preaching to the working class at 4 and 5 in the morning and 7 at night on street corners and in fields in pouring rain. This man was very giving of self and loved people immensely. God worked through this man to give us the message of Sanctification. Couldn't put it down and took lots of notes!

Amazing Story of a young missionary bride to the East Indies during WWII. Taken prisoner by Japanese soldiers for four years, Darlene learns to rely on God completely to withstand the many diseases and violence she is thrown against. God gives her little things to tell her He is still with her, like 99 bananas when she asks for one, then decides that is impossible for God. I was truly blessed by this woman's faith and courage.

Not as good as Charlie and the Chocolate Facotry, but still loveable and imaginative. And I love peaches.

I aspire to know the still, small voice of God in my life EVERY time He speaks. This family has walked much closer to God than I thought was possible in this contemporary culture.

Read this little book a couple days ago and really enjoyed the writing. It is the story of how the church converted the woods people on Christmas Eve. They were trying to appease the god Thor with a human sacrifice and burning of the sacred tree, when the soldiers for the church came up and stopped the sacrifice, cut down the tree god, and told them of a real God. Then they told them to cut down a fresh pine that points straight to heaven each Christmas Eve. They gathered around the first Christmas tree and told the woods people of Christ and His sacrifice for us. And the children heard angels singing.

Donnelly weaves an irresistable tale of ambition, grief, love, and retribution.

The book has a lot more gay/lesbian themes than I expected after seeing the movie. Some rather deep probing revelations into the spirit of a certain uppity creative class of New York.
