“the story is good, that's not a question. however, it's misleading the readers to believe geishas to be high class prostitutes which they aren't. the description and lifestyle of the geisha golden is expressing in his writing is rather talking about "oiran", high class courtesans, who stopped existing after the eighteenth century. even mizuage, as explained in the novel, does not really involve bidding on virginity but simply a ceremony from apprentice to a full geisha.”
