Yes Stardust is a good little book. If you like darker stuff better, read Neverwhere first instead. But just about any Neil Gaiman book you read will likely make you want to read all of them!

Belle, Jennifer has some very good points. I have many of the same authors as you so I think you will enjoy the writing style. There is a lot of good to get out of "The Shack" if you read it with an open mind. It will show you a side of God etc. that is easy to understand and makes Him more approachable. Enjoy you read. Let me know what you think

    Dearest Belle,
The Shack doesn't strike as anything like what is on your "random books" shelf (though Pilgrimage sounded interesting). I never know whether to recomend this book to nonreligious people, I'm not sure what they would get from it. A conservative Christian since her college days, my mom did not enjoy my breakdown of The Shack, which I have sadly only read two-thirds through. What I did read I enjoyed and was greatly encouraged by. The beef people have with this book is its representation of God, who manifests him/herself--even the Holy Spirit--physically to the main character.
If you are a believer and are looking for something to stretch long-held biblical perspectives, give it a go-round. If you are not a believer, it might be just plain weird.

The Shack for me was a great book. If you have walked in religion a long time and long for a better understanding of who God is-breaking through stereo types and taking a long look at how much God really does LOVE-because he IS love and not a religion-read the Shack book! There is a part where the author suggests God is "in" everything, for some this leads them to believe The Shack has New Age undertones. I don't believe it does. I believe it is a story-it is not true- but it can help clear away religious thinking allowing you to better see God. If you're looking for TRUTH-read your Bible! The Shack is a story- a picture to help point you to a God who loved us so much he sent his one and only son to save us from our sin!

As to your question about whether or not to read The Shack. I think reading the Bible would be a better choice. If it's new to you, start with the Book of John.

Hello BELLE! I heard that you haven't made a decision on reading The Bad Beggining. I thought it was a great book, but if your going to read the first book of the series then you should read the whole series. Bye Bye!
