I am a girl with a prairie heart, one who likes to see the sun rise and the moon set at the same time over a South Dakota tallgrass prairie. My days are spent at The Outdoor Campus, a nature center in Sioux Falls, SD. Spare time finds me catching butterflies with my daughter and husband, or writing about my prairie heritage.

Hi - I'm trying to revive the western reading group here on shelfari and I noticed you liked Craig Johnson's "The Dark Horse". If you can, take a minute to post your comments on the book - thanks!

Did you like Edgar Sawatelle? I've been thinking about getting it. I'm just about finished with Don DeLillo's End Zone. And then on to your friend's book. By the way, look at my post below - I mentioned Ken Waldman in it 9 months ago. Fun!

I don't think I'm going to read the series. If anything, I would read the Wait until Dark/True Blood series. First book was fun (the series was based on it). This year I've already read Steinbeck's Pastures of Heaven and a memoir written by Alaska's Fiddling Poet, Ken Waldman. Now I'm reading Rules of the Bone by Russell Banks. So far it's gotten my attention pretty quickly. Don't forget to read "To a God Unknown" by Steinbeck. Or try "Winter of our Discontent" - that was really good. I miss you!

I think Jas read Buffalo. That's by Dan O'Brien, right? I introduced him at his Festival of the Book presentation a few years ago and Jas had the book signed afterward. I think he liked it.

Just finished I Am Legend (much better than the movie (and different)). Now I'm reading Steinbeck's Winter of our Discontent. How about you?

I gleaned it from your shelf. It's on my wishlist - which is so long. I've got about three Steinbeck books I have to read ASAP and then some others that I recently bought. But I remembered you telling me how good Book Theif is....

You never write, you never call, you never tell me what you are reading any more! Are you thinking about snakes in the attic? You should be - and putting your thoughts to paper!!!!

I spent quite a bit of time on your shelf too! I love this site - it is so fun!! I'm reading "America's Women" by Gail Collins right now - I highly recommend it. It is very easy to read. What are you reading?

BTW - switching to something a little cheerier, I'm now reading "Going to Meet the Man" - James Baldwin. Next is Steinbecks' "Zapata". I need to add some fluff to my list.

Steinbeck's The Moon is Down was amazing and scarily relevant to today. Highly recommended. I think I still like To a God Unknown better, but it was a great and quick read.

As soon as I finish What is the What (Dave Eggers), I plan to read The Moon is Down (John Steinbeck). It was a book banned in many countries and I believe that Nazis were shot immediately, no questions asked, if they were caught reading it.

Hey, 5 books and we have 4 in common (so far). This is kind of addictive, so plan to spend a little time on it. Thanks for being my friend ;-)
