This book, despite its very strong bias, has helped me to form a broad understanding of the cultural story at the centre of the conflict. Told very much from the Palestinian voice, the story covers several generations of one family from the time before the war when they worked their own land in Jenin in relative peace and enjoyed cultural freedom and relative wealth and good fortune. It ends in America several decades later and the physical, emotional and cultural damage is quite extreme. The family has been destroyed by the war. The men are almost all dead and the women are transient and, despite their peaceful surroundings in the west, are struggling to find peace within themselves. This is a strong family story that also happens to explore the politics that determine their fate.”

He is loved by all who know him because he offers them unconditional loyalty and affection. This is a lovely story that doesn't treat children as though they are glass. The author clearly knows their resilience and tell them the truth of war. ”

“I can hardly believe it has taken me 44 years to read the BFG. I love Dahl's stories but still have many titles to get to. I loved this one. The cleverness of the story and the unique language of the giant made for a very enjoyable read.”
