I have finally been able to start reading more books, again, after having my second child.
He is old enough to play and doesn't mind when I focus my attention on books! Yay!

I have been keeping up with the Jr. High/Sr. High reading list as I work with students
on reading and am enjoying the books they bring down to have help... more »

    Helloooooooooooo Nic,

Sorry for replying late. Too many things going around lately. We had many guests coming over here... My eldest aunt passed away so many came down to Mumbai for the condolence ceremony.

My youngest cousin came along too and it was not much fun this time to play with him.. He fell sick because of change in the climatic conditions and was grumpy most of the time. It was challenging for me to placate him, feed him and keep him occupied so that his mother can get some free time to concentrate on others necessary things. It was a good experience though! :D

I like observing children (especially in the age group of 2-8 years) they reflect the behavior of their parents or their long-time companions. If you just sit back and continuously watch them.. A lot can be understood.. like from whom they acquire certain traits and why and when they get cranky and utter words they shouldn't, etc. It's fun to learn via observation. Mother's job is certainly not an easy one!

A masters in Human Resources Management will give me an in depth knowledge of what it takes to be an HR Professional in the present business environment where business set-ups are frequently looking for cost-cutting measures and solid strategies that help them survive in growing complexities and increasing pressure of stringent deadlines. I have calls from some of the top B-Schools in Mumbai and I am looking forward to prepare diligently and be honest and answer sincerely when I face interviews and other selection rounds in June. Once I am done with the programme (including summer internship), towards the end, I will be sitting for campus placements and make an informed choice to take up the right profile. I don’t know how things will shape in future but I am expecting generalist and business-specific HR profiles (Recruitment & Selection, Employee engagement, Employee welfare, Training & Development, Payroll and compensation, Generalists role for a business unit in a corporate set up, etc)

What would be my ‘dream job’… Interesting question! After working for 2 years, I have realized that I need a strong purpose/vision that helps me keep going. I want to make my life meaningful. I am the best when I work selflessly. Maybe, I would like to be a teacher one day (after some good years of industry experience) and be an instrument in helping students in their quest of leading a balanced life. What would be your dream job Nic?

The weather is hot and humid. The mercury is rising day by day. At times, people (like me) do think twice before leaving their homes in the afternoon! :D

Happy Easter to you and your family Nic! I am sure you are going to have a fabulous time with your beloveds. I would so love to see the celebration pictures but I respect your wise decision of not having a Facebook account ;) It can be addictive and distract you for worse! hahaha

I never came across any kind of Easter celebrations in Mumbai.. Not many Christians stay in my locality so I am unaware of their festivities. I would like to witness a catholic wedding and be someone’s best man! :D

I was thinking if we can converse through emails in future? You do have my email address. I am not much active on Shelfari. And i believe you also must be having one active email account. That should help me respond promptly.

Hope you enjoy reading my message. You too take good care.

Always happy to hear from you, J

    Hey Nic,

I am glad to read your message after such a long time. How have you been? I missed you too.
I am sorry for replying late. I was pretty occupied with exams. I even deactivated my Facebook account for a while.

This year, i gave some entrance tests for MBA. If things fall in place then yes, i am going to pursue Masters in Human Resource Management from a decent B-School. If not, i will take up a 10 months teaching course and see how i am liking it and at the same time reappear for the MBA entrance tests and improve my scores.

I absolutely understand your aversion to Facebook. It can be boring, heavy and so unnecessary to be alert all the time. We all need a break! hehe Plus, it's very good you analyse things well and if i were you, even i would yearn for some private space where i don't want to be seen as a teacher or a role model :D I can just be carefree and do and say whatever i like :D

How's your baby boy? Lovely profile pic :) What are you holding in your hands?

    Warm regards from India, J

    Hi Nicole,
How are you? Wow, your baby has grown so much - your little girl, too!!!!! And what a lovely pic!!!!!!
My eldest has just turned 16 and I feel positively ANCIENT!!!! LOL Paddy is 12 in June. these years are just going by in a blur! Liam is off to Cambodia for a few weeks next year to help build a home, dig some toilets and help with community farming - he'll just love it , I'm sure! He'll be finished High school at that point and final exams, waiting on results and waiting to hear if he is going away on the scholarship exchange to Dickinson. Time is going by so fast!
Paddy just started a new school (intermediate) at the beginning of the year, and has already had a few hiccups - hit by a car a few weeks back and persistent headaches resulting in glasses for reading and computer. His bike was damaged, but fortunately, just a minor knee injury. What a fright!!!! He gets his glasses before the new term - the boys are on holiday for 2 wks now - and he looks really cool I have to say!!! ONe pair is navy metallic and the other fine black frames (2 for 1 deal). Luckily, a new buddy at his new school also has glasses so it's not too traumatic :)
Christmas seems light years away now. I'm glad you had a good one - I remember you'd been missing your family, right? Ours was....awkward, I guess you'd say. Our extended family all in one place makes for an uncomfortable day, really, but I did love the part of the day reserved just for Chris and the boys. Families are not always a perfect mix, I guess.
I'm writing and reading a lot, my hubby is now 15 months seizure-free, and the boys are settled. All good :)
Did you ever get hold of Chevy stevens's other book? I just wish she would hurry up and write a 3rd!!!!!
    Hugs,
    F :)

    Hey Buddy,

I am sorry for not writing to you early.
The other day, i had written a note to you, was about to click 'send note' and suddenly there was a power cut.. erasing permanently what i had written. No worries Nic, I have sufficient interest to write back ;)

Wow. You are keeping yourself busy and it is fruitful and productive. A free mind is easy to become a depressed mind (Just like my professor says) These words are stuck in my head and they are really making sense to me.

I have a facebook friend Diane from Japan. She also had used the word 'shut-in' in her message which meant the same as you have mentioned here in the note. I am wondering how can anyone like staying indoors all the time? Is that because of a disability or no interest? (Don't you think it can be depressing?) It is very important for me to come into expression with people around. No learning takes place in isolation.

It sure is a satisfying experience per se to be of help to others. I think we do it more for ourselves since we feel better by the outcome of our deeds :)

hehe.. Yes, i too remember my ex-colleagues. I am in touch with them throught texts and telephone and I wish we also hang out at times and enjoy the physical presence (it will be a refreshing break) :) Nothing can ever substitute the feel of a face to face conversation. It is so much easy, live and wonderful!

The new job is no more new. Its been like more than three months now. I am dealing and interacting more with people of my age group. Making presentations, writing reports, co-ordinating with team members, helping colleagues, attending sessions, giving feedback/suggestions and co-operating with the supervisors. Keeps me busy :D :D I am discovering so much about myself by reflecting on the 'don'ts' done in my previous organization and learning (experimenting) new ways of responding and putting things forth. I was blunt and quick to react initially but now i respond and take my own time to come to a conclusion without getting influenced in an unhealthy manner (personal sentiments of the colleagues). I am studying during the weekends and also attend lectures every Sunday and therefore i cannot stay i miss my college life! :D :D

My family is good. My Mom spoils me a lot :D But in thoughts, i am independent ;)
My sister got engaged and she plans to marry next year. It will be amazing to have you and your family in the wedding :)

Love and light to you Nic ( it is Diwali here, the festival of lights :D )
Don't forget to give my love to the baby boy (Have you heard the song : Countdown - Beyonce?)

Hugs and be well sweet friend,
    J

    Hi Nicole,
How are you doing? It's been crazy here as we approach the end of the 3rd school term - and it's only 2 and a half weeks til we go on holiday to Aussie!!!!!!! Just 2 school weeks left of term!!!!
Then just one more term and the school year is over.
Finally school sharing is over. Liam's high school were sharing with a boys' school because their school was so badly damaged in the quake but the boys moved out a few weeks back, as repairs are mostly completed on their site. We're really angry to have discovered massive vandalism to our school property and the police have become involved it seems. So disappointing when we tried to help these boys so that their exams and studies could continue. The feeling is that if we have another quake, they will not be welcomed back. So disappointing :(
Anyway, the stress on our own students is lessened slightly now that they can do a full day's schooling. It's been a tough year and final results will show exactly how the quake's ripple effect has effected our students. Hey, we can just hope for a better year next year, I guess.
On a happy note, Paddy's decision for a new school is made and he's really happy about it. The school has invited all prospective new entrants to come see their major production (stage show) so we're really looking forward to that :)
How are your little ones? Hope you're getting sleep and still a bit of reading time :)

Hi Nicole, I do love what I do... when I worked at the college I was doing 40%admin. and 60% direct service to clients...I found my self doing 100% with students and then my admin went on into my off hours..says a lot about what I value, and its not grant writing and administrivia. So private practice became my goal. It has been good in that I have a full case load and have a waiting list. I have several returning clients and have even seen children of adults I counseled years ago. I do care about clients, yet need to have good boundaries about what I do after I leave the office..hence the interests I have are very much part of my self care. I consider the process of the work to be mine and the problems belong to the client. I work hard, just not harder than they do.

A nice thing about counseling is that there are so many different populations and settings we work in that it staves off burn-out. Your Masters in learning strategies should transfer right into what you learn with psychology or counseling dergree. My bachelors was in Psychology. Loved that tooo. Hugs, Nina
