Soo sorry! Was it really awful??? I can't remember it being too bad, but perhaps it just doesn't stand out compared to others. So so sorry! I guess I need to keep in mind that my measure of what's disturbing is probably in a different league to that of most people's, huh? So so so sorry!!!!!!
Of course not really hehe but the only way you can read this stuff is to pretend it's not real. Scary scary place. Couldn't pay me to revisit Asia. Jeez, I hope L doesn't get the travel bug and choose Asia as I did. Doesn't even bear thinking about...
kwl. will look it out and catch up with you soon. Working on a research assignment this time and today I'm reading about organ harvesting in China - from govt sanctioned murders to make up the shortfall after they use the organs of executed prisoners! Scary scary place!
Will bring it for you Friday. It's not dark as in rape etc. Hard to explain. A typically dark melancholy for Japanese. Yeah, hard to explain. It's a bit oppressive I guess. The story is good, I thought.
Don't worry if you hate it. I can just take it home again :)
Hmm. Maybe it's just not a good idea to revisit a book you didn't like first time round, huh?
Hope all is well with you. Busy day coming up Thurs cos Pads has x-rays and surgeon on same day. Usually on separate days, so dunno why it's all on one day this time. Appts very close together , so I'll be super pissed off if running late with x-ray and miss scoliosis clinic appt. Did run this by them, but felt like I was dealing with an incompetent, so just have to hope for the best. Paddy hates these things, so I'm expecting a battle. (He doesn't go quietly any more)!
Nice day at the gym. Hurt my back Fri so weekend was shite, but Johnny worked it over...hehe. Actually it really helped. SERIOUSLY!
You're so funny!!! (And full of crap, even though i still love you :) Maybe my posture is just a bit better? I'm trying to work on it). Hard to believe I haven't lost my 20kgs yet when I've already been 2x!!!! Maybe I should get a new trainer? Johnny's obviously not up to the task! LOL
Can't wait til C joins too!
Are you keen to read the latest Jodi Picoult! (Welcome to borrow my copy if you like)
I thought it was one of her better ones (NO SPOILERS), and you'll see why when you read the blurb. M might really like this one, too.
Great to see you all! Can't believe I nearly toddled off without paying for my tea!!!! Such a scatterbrain!!!!
Saw your review. Yeah, I agree with the contrived bit but I still liked it, the trip back into childhood more than the present life of (whatever-her-name-was). I took your other one back to the library. I just couldn't get into it even though I wanted to. My mind just won't settle atm with P's drama and him being home all week (back at school today). Then there's the job thing, the camera thing, etc. It's all about your mind space, I guess. I'm trying to read Paul Cleave's latest and can't even concentrate on that either :( Listening to another Lurlene McDaniel on audio (YA), which I'm enjoying. Although her books are very similar in some ways, they are easy listening and feel real to me.
See you at R's tomorrow?
Yes please! I put a hold on it but I can cancel but pay for yours? Remind me when it's due tho cos I'm finding it hard to keep track of stuff these days! I think everyone else got the year rolling in Jan but I'm still not up to speed! LOL
Need to get off mine and get a job tho :(
Don't want to (shame on me) but have to.
Can't wait to see you and R!!!
I felt exactly the same as you did about that JP offering but you obviously got further into it than I did! LOL Knowing me, it would have been a chapter or two at most and I can't even remember anything about it but that I hated it! And that other one - I had it on my Plan to Read list and I've been busy "culling" the last few days and deleted it. Maybe I need to rethink it.....
Hope you're having a fun wkend. We all full of colds and haven't been out in the snow once! I hate winter for the constant coughing (asthma), otherwise I would have been out there playing!!! hehe
The fire has been blissful though and I've sat around on my fat butt reading and watching tv. Soooooo restless now tho!!! Have a great new recipe for you - will email - but it's the most unhealthy EVA!!!! All sugar and fat....but yummy!
Will be thinking of M on Tues. Paddy has his usual round of x-rays and appt over the next few, starting with x-rays tomorrow. He's at the age of rebelling against it and is packing a strop today in preparation! (sigh)
Only 3 wks left of term!!!!!!! Liam is stressing while P is ALWAYS ready and willing for more time off!
Enjoy the sun and snow!!!
Oh, and I'm reading The Wrong Boy now. It's much better than her other one, The Tattooed something-or-other. Mind you, the latter was part biography/part autobiography and I don't read a lot of nonfiction, must admit.
M might really enjoy The Wrong Boy I'm thinking...
Oh, and no, I haven't seen the Nazi interviews. I kinda scoffed at the idea of it, really, as some attempt to excuse all that they had done, but that's not the intent at all...more to explain rather then excuse, which is pretty vital - the understanding of how they were able to set the Final Solution in motion, huh?
I guess I feel that because we have never lived through such extreme situations and never lived in a state of war, then who are we to judge? (Many of those interviewed conceded that they might never have behaved as they did had they not been forced to protect their own etc. I mean, how far would I go to protect Liam or Paddy? Perhaps I would surprise/shock even myself?)
I guess I'm thinking here of situations such as communities where Catholics turned on Jewish neighbours who had been friends for a lifetime....kill or be killed? Self-preservation? Not sure that applies to Nazis, though....
Chris is much more open minded than I, so perhaps I will watch those interviews after all. I'm sure he'll loan them to you, too if you want to see them?
Will drop you a line tomorrow.
