Hi, I'm Cher'ley Grogg, and among other novels, I've written "Stamp Out Murder". It is not my first novel, and I hope it won't be my last. I enjoy writing novels. The research fascinates me and I love putting adding my knowledge and imagination to it, and out comes a book. Amazing.

It took me 5 years to write this novel, and my... more »

Clearly I love to read. I tend to find a book I like, and then obsessively read everything that author has ever written. Many of the books on my shelf were read a number of years ago, I am currently a graduate student and that unfortunately leaves limited time for pleasure reading. :(

This novel is the debut in the 'Cherry Tucker Mystery' series. It takes place in Halo, Georgia. A small town with the kindness and cruelness found in a small town that has non-forgettable memories. Cherry left town and attended Savannah' College of Arts and Design. She majored in Portrait painting. Now that leaves a very small niche in Halo to utilize her talents.

So, when a chance to do a death portrait of poor, unfortunate, Dustin Bransom, found murdered but well off, Cherry jumps to get the commission. Unfortunately, Cherry isn't the only one. Not only is there competition for the painting...someone is breaking in the competitor's homes and even poor Dustin's.

Rumors abound about the murdered man. Gambling, stolen coins, jewelry, mob connections, and more. When Cherry finds herself attacked...she decides that it is in her family's honor to ferret out the culprit and bring him/her to justice!

This book has a sense of humor running through it. There is a lot of comparison of the classes and lifestyles. Sometimes I wearied of the red-neck jokes, but this was a first novel and it was worthy of being a finalist in the 2012 Daphne Du Maurier Award. I look forward to reading the next novel in this series.

There are the usual Civil War haunts, but, to me, I enjoyed the tales of restaurants, trains, parkways, and other locations.

The author tried to give web sites and locations/phone numbers in case you have a chance to 'ghost hunt' for yourself.

Food Critic, Hayley Snow has her plate full these days. Hayley is Maid of Honor for her best friend, Connie's wedding, takes care of her house-mate, Gloria, and busy learning the art of writing food reviews of local Key West, Florida restaurants. Added to her plate to make it overflow, Wally, her boss gives her the honor (in his mind,) of being a Judge of the annual Key West Topped Chef reality contest to discover the new Chef of his own television series. Finally, Hayley also has her own love life which appears to be on life-support as well.

When Hayley gets stood-up, for the fourth time, she bikes to the Harbor to give her 'date' his meal, and well, see what is up. The body is Sam Rizzoli, another show judge, and worse yet...Hayley had just panned his restaurant in her latest review! Was he murdered because of his shady business dealings, or his personal life, or because of the Chef-contest? Hayley is thrown into the crime and finds herself embroiled in theories, mysteries, and more food than I could also stand to hear of.

This was an action packed novel. Third in the series. Well written and interesting characters. A find summer reading.

This is the second novel in the series about a private investigator (ok, she is faking it, but..) that finds herself involved in a serious case.

Casey Jones is hired by a family clan (women) to try and do the impossible. The job? Remove Gail Honeycutt from death row within a month. Casey is flummoxed but takes the case when she senses that Gail is, indeed, not guilty.

This book was filled with action, murdered victims, police force inquiries, and more. The book to me, however, would have been improved upon by not constantly telling us about Casey, herself. Casey Jones is a large built woman with large sexual tastes. That is stated so many times that it overshadowed the storyline and for me made the book almost a DNF or Do Not Finish. I was bored. However, I'm glad I looked past the character and rough language as the story was solid.

This is an adult novel and a heck of a story once you get past the main character, who is a good person but drawn too rough (my opinion only.)

This sixth novel of the series opens with the painful recovery of a head wound by Kiki Lowenstein. Kiki is a survivor as we know from the previous five novels and a single mom of daughter, Anya. Kiki and fiancé, Chad Detweiler's joy is interrupted though as the assailant, Chad's wife (pending a divorce,) is still at large and a serious danger to all.

Kiki, pregnant is trying hard to find a normal in all that has occurred, when she receives news...Chad's wife has been found dead and he is the prime suspect.

This novel explores not only the crime, but the importance of family, and friends to Kiki's world. Anya's Grandmother (Kiki's Mother-in-law, Sheila) lies in the hospital trying to recover as well. Kiki's best friend's son, Johnny is in a coma. Hatred and shame is flying through the papers as the parents of slain Brenda Detweiler try to deal with their loss. Pain is felt as the coming loss of a major friend comes inching closer. All these must be dealt with as Kiki tries to find a killer that wants to destroy her newly found happiness. Families come in many forms as Kiki, Chad, and Anya will discover by the end.

I shed several tears as I read this book. Ms. Slan's tight writing drew me in and I felt as though I was an intimate friend of Kiki's. I also like how the novel is progressing and Kiki is growing as a character. I look forward to further adventures of Kiki and company.

I am a third grade teacher in Michigan. I love to read and enjoy talking to others about new titles. I have decided to only add books that I have read from the start of 2010. I think this will be a fun way for me to see how many books I have read since starting my bookshelf on line.

This novel is the fourth in the series, "A Candy Holliday Murder Mystery." I like this series because it is truly a cozy murder mystery. I'm familiar with the characters, and the location, and the on-going plot lines. So, I pick up the novel with pleasure. I was, once again, caught up in the story and time flew by.

This book starts up a few months after the last novel, Town in a Wild Moose Chase, ends. It is autumn and the tourists have seen most of the turning leaves fall. So, the final festival, mainly for the locals is the 'Pumpkin Bash' and it is one heck of a festival ending on Halloween. To earn extra money, Candy Holliday, a baker, blueberry farmer, and amateur sleuth, and her best friend Maggie Tremont have found a way to earn some extra income to hold them over the long winter months. Manage the local Gumm's pumpkin patch. The Ladies jump into the venture with enthusiasm and energy. They come up with hay-rides, farmer's markets, mazes and more.

It is a huge success and Candy and Maggie are going on their last hay-ride, when...a body appears under a pile of pumpkins in the high field. Not only that...it is the same sight of a murder over two decades ago...are they connected? Does Cape Willington, Maine have deep, dark, and painful secrets that are about to be disclosed?

Well, I'll let you enjoy the book and find out. The twist at the end gave me great satisfaction, however, you will not get it if you haven't read the prior three novels. Come on...treat yourselves!
