  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
    • Rated 3 stars

What a great story for the holiday season, or any season for that matter. Dr. Seuss seems very silly as a writer on the surface. However, if one really takes the time to see the clever writing and deeper subject matter, a greater respect for Dr. Seuss emerges. Plus, the town of Who-ville and the Grinch's dog are adorable.

I am currently on chapter 15, literally right in the middle, of this book. The suspense and foreshadowing is amazing. Even though I can sense how the book is going to end, I'm excited to finish the series.

  • Heroes, Gods and Monsters of the Greek Myths

This was the first book assigned to my students. It contains on Greek god, goddess, demigod, or tale per chapter. At first, these chapters seem separate. However, in time the tales become interwoven and the reader is able see how all the beings are related in some way. I would give this text 4 out of 5 stars because, although it is not my favorite text in the word, it is valuable to read about all these beings and see remnants of this text in other words such as films and books.

I just arrived at the middle of this book. I've hear the expression "I cannot put this book down" from other readers but it's very true with this second novel in the series. I am seeing The Hunger Games film this weekend and hope it measures up to the book.

  • The Oedipus Cycle

I have taught and performed 2 of the 3 plays in this cycle. Reality television cannot possible capture the amount of high drama and deception of these plays written thousands of years ago. Timeless Greek tragedy.

I actually read this book AFTER finishing the LOTR series and loved it. It's an adventure in every chapter and I love rooting for the little guy, underdog.

"Burn them to ashes and then burn the ashes." This book was truly ahead of it's time. The Sci-fi reality is interesting to say the least.
