“If I do this, something will go wrong and this man will hurt me. I know it as sure as I’m sitting here next to him feeling how much he makes me want to say yes.”

Where do I even begin? It is hard for me to remember the last time a book made me this giddy. Now don't get me wrong, I read a lot of books and I love a lot of books. But this is different. I sat at work and couldn't stop thinking about Jack and Laurelyn. My friend had already finished it the day before me so we eMailed, text, and chatted all day about it. I rushed to a quiet spot on my thirty minute lunch break so that I could read as much as possible. I rushed home immediately after work so that I could dive back into their story. Even now that I have finished, I can not get enough of Jack and Laurelyn. I have joined a Beauty From Pain support group on Facebook (no joke), and have found myself slightly obsessed with the teasers and fan art that the author has released. In short... Hello, my name is Christine and I am a Beauty From Pain addict.

“I didn't love you the day I met you, or even a month later. But somewhere between hello and the goodbye I'm unable to bear.

So the question to be asked is, why did I fall so hard in love with this book and it's characters? There is no one real answer to this but I will do my best to explain. Let us start with the location, Australia. This was a nice change of pace from having it set in America; I enjoyed reading about the new locations and places. Also, the pace of the story was perfectly set, and it never felt rushed or hurried. I didn't question the time frame given or the feelings that had developed in that time period. I loved almost all of the side characters, mostly Jack's family. They were warm, loving, and I just wanted to give his mother a big hug.

“We’ve shared countless kisses. They were almost always heated and demanding, but this one is entirely different. It tells me things he can’t or won’t say because it goes against everything he intends for our relationship.”

However, above all of these reasons, it is Jack and Laurelyn that make Beauty From Pain such an amazing story. I simply fell in love with both of them. I will be completely honest and admit that it is rare for me not to find something annoying with the main female character. There is always some trait or action that causes me to find myself rolling my eyes. This never happened. There was not a single moment where I did not understand why the characters were acting, and or reacting in the way they were. Every situation was handled in an adult manner, and honestly it was the single most refreshing thing I have read in a very long time.

“She has bewitched me. And I want her. She’s the one.”

It is so easy for adult contemporary romance/erotic novels to fall into the 'same ole same ole', but this story is so beautifully told that even if you look at the synopsis and think you know exactly how it will all play out, trust me... you are wrong. This story has depth that will have you so wrapped up in it, that you will not be able to put it down. In fact, I challenge anybody that would say they even remotely enjoy this genre, to read Beauty From Pain and not love it wholeheartedly. I would have to think it an impossible task. I honestly do not have even one single negative thing I can say about this book.

“..you don't always know the true worth of a women's love until it becomes a memory.”

And the ending? Would I classify it as a cliffhanger? Yes and no. Yes, it ends in a location that makes you want to rip your hair out and curl up into a fetal position until the next book is out. But no, because I went in pretty much knowing where the ending was going to have to be. I refuse to give anything away from the story but I think that there is no way that Laurelyn and Jack would ever have been able to have a happily ever after if this book would have ended any differently. This ending can only bring them closer together, and is exactly what they need to move forward.

It also helps that book two, Beauty From Surrender, is due to be released on May 30th 2013. So, we do not have very long at all until we get to meet back up with Laurelyn and Jack. I am a on major countdown to this book, and I am already wondering how I am going to concentrate at work knowing that it is sat on my Kindle all day waiting for me to start it...

“I've known pain my whole life, but this is a new kind for me. It isn't born of something wrong or ugly. This pain is conceived out of beauty - my love for Jack Henry McLachlan. I embrace it. I clutch it as tightly as I can with both fists because I never want to forget the love I have for him. Loving him will forever be my Beauty from Pain.”

It's been one year since Quinn Montgomery's sister Zoe killed herself. Her sister was her best friend, she idolized her, they told each other everything, or so she thought. Without leaving a note, Quinn has made her own assumptions regarding her sister's reasons for doing what she did, which boils down to having her heart crushed by a guy. So what does Quinn do? She vows to never fall in love, to never put herself in a position where a guy can break her heart..........save yourself..........what she hears her sister tell her in her dreams, and what Quinn believes means save yourself from falling in love.

Stripped is a very well written story and the plot was interesting. I loved Torrin. I would have liked to have seen more details about his life. He was hot, he was patient, he didn't take Quinn's cramp, and he wound up being really chivalrous in the end. Quinn was another story. I just couldn't bring myself to like her, despite feeling sorry for her. She was really a bitch. Part of it had to do with what she had been through, and part of it was just her personality. I thought maybe I would grow to like her as the book progressed, but I didn't. I am sure there are plenty of people that will like her, but I just couldn't. That doesn't mean the story isn't good, because it is a good story. I just didn't care for the main character. The romance between Torrin and Quinn was....different. In my opinion, Torrin was a saint to put up with the things he did, and he had plenty of baggage and hurts he was dealing with himself. I was satisfied with the ending and how things worked out, and it would have been even better to have an epilogue that went into a little more detail about where their lives went, though not necessary. It just would have been a bonus. Overall, Stripped is a good story that is emotionally driven and at times intense. It personally didn't blow me away, though I have read quite a few 5-star reviews, so don't let my opinion deter you at all from checking this book out. You just may love it.

What I did absolutely love was this quote which was on Quinn's sister Zoe's grave marker.
"Perhaps our eyes need to be washed by our tears once in a while, so we can see life with a clearer view again."
    I thought that was beautiful.

When I began reading Runes I really didn't have any expectations, other than knowing what runes were and that this was a paranormal romance. I have read Ednah Walters "The Guardians" series and I loved it, so I knew what a great author she was, a fact that was further demonstrated in Runes. I loved it. In fact, I have been in kind of slump with paranormal romances, choosing more contemporary, so this was a pleasant surprise that I thoroughly enjoyed.

In Runes, Ednah Walters incorporates Norse mythology into a modern day setting, creating a world that is exciting, intriguing, and mysterious. I was as anxious to know what Torin was as Raine was, which made the story that much more interesting and kept me turning the pages to find out what happened next. I really liked Raine's character. She grows into quite the heroine, and the stage has been set to really challenge her in this area in the next book in the series. Torin is an immortal badass and a total hottie that makes you swoon, sigh, and fan your face all at the same time. The chemistry between Torin and Raine is sizzling hot, and get this, he rides a Harley. She is in a relationship with Eirik, but he's also her best friend and she doesn't want to lose him, which complicates things even further, especially with Torin. Cora is Raine's fun, outgoing, outspoken, and charismatic other best friend and I totally loved her character.

Things got really intense toward the end as it became more clear about who and what Torin is, where he comes from, and even things about Raine herself and her family that she had no clue about. There were some twists and turns that I did not see coming, especially the ending. OMG, I totally didn't see that one and yes, it is a cliffhanger that will leave you desperate to read what happens next. Granted it is a really well done cliffhanger, but a cliffhanger nonetheless. As for the paranormal aspect, Ednah Walters did a great job of weaving Norse mythology into the story, which was really interesting. Overall, this is an excellently written YA paranormal romance that I thoroughly enjoyed and would most definitely recommend. I cannot wait to read book two, Immortals, which is coming out in July.

I wanted so much to love Icons. The cover looks amazing, I really enjoyed Margaret Stohl's Beautiful Creatures (though quite bluntly was less impressed with the second book in the series) and this is how I felt about Icons, not impressed. There were a lot of flaws with the story, specifically about these Lords. I can understand the point - we're being oppressed and there's not much one can do about it with these giant Icons enslaving us - but I have trouble with the lack of emotion I felt in knowing it. There was nothing that made me care about the world they lived in or the characters. I just couldn't connect with the story.

The pacing often didn't move fast enough and I couldn't understand quite a lot of the characters motivations for doing what they're doing. I was ready to put the book down at several points but I'd made up my mind I wanted to read the end. Some books get better as you delve more into their world (Under the Never Sky).
Icons had a brief moment near the end where the story moved forward but it felt much too late and even with the slightest twists and turns, it wasn't enough to make me recommend this novel. I love a good sci-fi book. I'm all for aliens, dystopian and even some romance but Icons didn't live up to my expectations.

That is until one night when he gets exceedingly drunk at a friends party, and asks the Cosmos for a favour. Suddenly he realises he has asked for more than he bargained for and all his friends lives are at risk...

This story managed to creep me out totally, to the extent that I had to stop reading as it was night-time and I was in danger of having nightmares! It was an excellent well rounded short story, the pace was breathless and I found myself getting quite scared while reading. The whole story had that 'what if' type of feel about it. The storyline itself was an interesting one, and there is a lesson in the story too. I recommend this for a quick scary read, but not before bedtime! Darkfuse hits the mark once again!

What I liked about the book:
I've read several books about selling ebooks and this is definitely one of the best ones! Ms. James really speaks directly to the author in a down to earth way without using a bunch of big words or filler words.
Since I've been an author for a year now and read several books like these I was looking for new tips that would help my sell books. This book definitely gave me some new things to consider when trying to sell my books. I found most of the tips to be practical and easy to do.
This book takes you from the writing stage to the publishing and marketing stage. It a very comprehensive guide. It's perfect for someone just starting out as a self-published author or someone looking to breath new life into their works.
There is a great list of resources that include links that a seasoned indie or a newbie indie would enjoy using.
What I didn't like about the book
I felt like the book at times only talked to self-published author who have a large budget. The author discusses how she paid a couple of hundred dollars for one stock photo that she used as a cover image. I don't know any of my author friends who are spending hundreds of dollars on one stock photo. Most of us can find a good stock photo for $30 max. The book also mentions spending $400 on an advertisement. I don't know if that would be very useful to people just starting out. She did provide very good links to sites with affordable services in other areas I should add. I only wish she would have talked about some more affordable stock image sites or paid ad sites.
Overall: This is a great book any indie author can use whether their new or seasoned and looking for ways to jump start their sales. I got this book for free and read it within about 2 hours. Even if i'd paid for it, it would have been worth the price for the thought provoking and useful information I learned.
