Part of a series, I probably would not have this on my book list, but I might encourage students to read this after they read the first one. It helps to open up a new genre (science fiction) to students who might not normally pic up this type of book. Definitely geared for high school students.

This would be a book for older students in high school to read. This might not be a great literary work, but I think it could introduce students to a whole new genre. This might possibly end up on a reading list for a high school class.

My kids love the Fancy Nancy books. This one about the butterflies is a cute story about how Nancy is upset about having to go to her grandparents party instead of her best friend's butterfly themed birthday party. She is upset but ends up happy because she gets to go to a butterfly farm. Lots of awesome vocabulary and a good moral to the story makes this a definite must have on the book shelf for any young elementary class.

A very interesting book about two kids who are left alone and play a game that causes real things to happen. I did not like this book, but I know that some kids would enjoy it. I would not use this for a read aloud, but I would keep it on my shelf for kids to read. Probably geared for 3rd or 4th grade.

  • Mousetronaut: Based on a (Partially) True Story

Awesome science fiction book for kids written by an astronaut. A mouse gets chosen to go to space because he was a hard worker. This was a fun read aloud that has a great message about how an underdog can still achieve great things. This book also has a lot of fun space facts. Great for an elementary class probably grades 1-3ish.

  • Fanny's Dream
    • Rated 4 stars

A fun take on a Cinderella story. Fanny is a country girl and thinks she wants something fancy, but things turn out differently for her and she realizes that she loves her life as a farm wife. I'm not sure if I would do a read aloud with this book, but it is definitely one that I would want in my classroom.

A fiction book about a police officer and his dog who do safety talks to schools. The safety tips and humor involved would make this book a fun read aloud for a young elementary class. There are plenty of fun activities that can be added to this book.

A poetry book that incorporates music into the story. Math (numbers, counting, addition) is also a part of the story. A very cute book that would be great in preschool or maybe kindergarten.

Great book about a little mouse that has a beautiful name. She is so excited to start school, but that changes quickly because her name is long and much different than all of the other little mice. Everyone makes fun of her and she feels horrible. Eventually the cool music teacher names her baby the same thing and all the little mice decide the name isn't so bad. This would be a great book to read aloud to a young elementary class when talking about bullying.

  • Madeline's Rescue

Adorable book about a little French girl who is rescued by a dog. The dog causes problems for the girls because they all want her to sit with them. It has a lot of special vocabulary, and fun pictures. This would be great for a young elementary or preschool class.
