“The Lightning Thief is about a boy named Percy. Percy is 12 years old, and he was a boarding student at a private school for troubled kids in upstate New York.
Percy's sixth-grade class took a field trip to Manhattan's Metropolitan Museum of Art to look at ancient Greek and Roman things. Bad things always happened to Percy on field trips, but this year, Percy was determined to be good.
During lunch, a girl in Percy's class, Nancy Bobofit, got on his nerves, and he stood up to her. But before he even touched her, she was in the water, shouting that Percy had pushed her into the water in a fountain. Percy's math teacher, Mrs. Dodds, wanted to talk to him inside the museum. She was inside, and he had wondered how she had gotten there so fast. He went inside after her. Percy followed Mrs. Dodds back into the Greek and Roman part of the museum. They were the only ones in the gallery. Mrs. Dodds was making a growling noise in her throat. She spoke told Percy that he'd been causing problems. But when Percy said he'd try harder not to, Mrs. Dodds said something that confused him. A moment later, her eyes began to glow, her fingers stretched, turning into talons. Her jacket became large wings. She had claws and a mouth full of fangs. She was a monster, and she was going to attack Percy.
Percy meets many other monsters, and friends, in the rest of the book.
I like this book because it has an interesting plot, while having to do with Greek mythology. The descriptions of the things in the book are interesting; the characters, the weapons, armor, tools all interest me. Percy, although having dealt with many struggles, completed his mission for the gods.
Somethings I dislike about this book are some of the characters, some of their descriptions, and some parts of the story. I disliked the part in the beginning when Percy is attacked by Mrs. Dodds because it was so sudden, and when it did happen, it happened so quickly. I also disliked Ares in this book, because I think he had some issues, but I think his appearance was very well described. ”
