Wil Burrows, a boy who lives in London loves digging for artifacts with his father. His family is dysfunctional because his sister does most of the work in the household while his mother never leaves the television watching old tapes and shows.
His best friend Chester helps him on digs and everything is the same for most of the time. But one night, his parents have a fight and a couple days later his father disappears. Will and Chester start finding clues to his where abouts and begin to discover things that were never ment to be discovered.
Will and Chester face cunning adversaries and enemies they never thought they would encounter such as the Styx who hate Topsoilers(inhabitants that live above ground ). They race against time and are challenged with finding Will's father and also halting the Styx's plans in this epic adventure ”
