I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and moved to Austria as a young teen. I studied at the Vienna International School, Austria, and then moved to the United States to go to college and graduate school. I earned a Ph.D. in English and is currently full-time faculty at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, where I teach literature. "Shelby and Shauna Kitt and the Dimensional Holes" is my debut novel, and won "Best First Chapter Book" in the 2012 Children's Literary Classics Awards, together with a gold award in the "fantasy pre-teen" and "science-fiction pre-teen" categories. The novel was also an award-winning finalist in the young adult and science-fiction categories of the 2012 International Book Awards. I am currently working on the sequel.
