I live in Florida, USA. I love to read but don't have as much time for it as I would like to. I usually manage to read 1 or 2 books a week. I have 4 children, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. I am still working but hope to retire soon. Then I will have more time for my favorite pastime.

Notice that you are considering retirement. If you retire, and your state secedes, what happens to your Social Security since you won't be part of the US any longer?

I have enjoyed thus far the Main's and Hazard's. Jakes does a good job depicting the sentiments of the country. Kind of reminds you of the current political climate with all the states secede. Which is a crazy thing to do @ this juncture. People nowadays just have not thought things out. People back then are unreasonable as they are today.

Hi Janice, so good to hear from you. We had a very nice Thanksgiving thank you. I added a book to my TBR list from your shelf last week but without looking I can't recall what is is. LOL I guess you are counting down to 12/31/12 and retirement.
Take the time to read today!

Congratulations on your retirement! I may be forced into retirement 01/31/2013 although I hope not. There is uncertainty here and everything has been in limbo for the past 6 months. I'm hoping to work until I reach 65!

    Hi Janice,

Thanks so much for asking me to be your Shefari friend. We have several things in common. I had planned to retire in 18 months but wanted to work maybe 3 days a week and gradually work into full time retirement. I've worked for almost 50 years and am not domestic, I hate housework. I have 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren. For the past 3 years we have been raising 2 of the four grandchildren. My grandson is 18 and a Senior and my granddaughter is 12. I had not planned to be raising children at my age but everything happens for a reason. They bless me every single day and hopefully are keeping me young. :)

Are you a native Floridian? What part of FL are you in?

I'm looking forward to being friends and talking about the books we read. I can't wait to look at your shelf!

    Have a wonderful day,
    Linda

Hi Janice.  Which ones have you read and which one are you starting this weekend? I have read Pillars of the Earth and World without End.  These 2 introduced me to his writing. I have also read Code to Zero and Eye of the Needle. Both very good. I also hear that The key to Rebecca is good. It is sitting on my book shelf waiting for me to get to it!

    Hi Janice,

Yes. It was his first. There would have been more this year, but we had too many scorching hot days and nights. And now it has cooled off, but he has a brand new baby sister and she isn't old enough to attend yet. I wonder if she will be a Cardinals' fan?

I'm glad you like the pictures.

Thank you, Janice. I'm sorry to hear about your husband. I gave up the fight to care for him myself a bit over a year ago and have had to place him in a care facility (nursing home) as soon as they had a Medicaid bed open.
i was thinking about that just this morning as I drove to work (I still teach English part time) -- I will always feel guilty about this fact.
Just finished a wonderful book: The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.
