Did you ever read the Outlander? It's one of my favorite guilty pleasures, a series which is a blend of time travel, history and super sexy romance. The 7th in the series is coming out I think in the next week or so.
I'm thinking about reading along with Kelsey's "Advanced Literature Study: The Contemporary Novel" class .. here's what's on their agenda for this school year:Tortilla Curtain, TC Boyle (they just finished this one, so I'm skipping it)The Namesake, Jhumpa LahiriEmpire Falls, Richard Russo (I've already read this one, won't read agin)The Road, Cormac McCarthy (I've read this already, too, but will prob read again)Bel Canto, Ann PatchettAtonement, Ian McEwanA Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini (I read this, and LOVED it)The Glass Castle, Janette WellsThe Things They Carried, Tim O'BrianBooks under consideration:Olive Kitteridge, Elizabeth StroutThe Known World, Edward P. Jones (I read this, but can't remember if I liked it...)Waiting for Snow in Havana: Confessions of a Cuban Boy, Carlos EireI need to finish up Middlesex (almost done) so I can get started on The Namesake. I think they begin reading it next week. Also ... my co-worker Megan has been talking about starting a wine/reading group, and wants to read classics -- she's proposing Lolita as the first book, so if I join that group, I will be reading that soon, too! We need to get together again soon! :) Ann
Good idea Jana--thanks for the info
