Hey Dave, have you ever read Nelson DeMille? If so, what's a good one to start with? Just wondering....

Just read the blurb and it sounds interesting - thanks Dave! Not sure why but it instantly made me think of a movie I saw with Paddy, Dolphin Tail/Tale, based on a true story about a dolphin in Florida (?) who was given a prosthetic tail. ONe of those stories where the dolphin heals the human's hurt. (The main character's cousin was a champion swimmer who lost the use of a leg in active duty and withdrew from life...) See? Not a lot in common but just made me think of it! LOL

    Hi Dave,
Long time no see! How have you been? Thanks for the recommendation. What made you suggest that one? Maybe it's cos I have quite a few humourous books on my shelf these days? I'm trying to help Paddy find books (he's nearly 12 and went off reading for a bit but is back with a vengence!) I've been a bit restless myself, but also settled again and really enjoying some great YA novels. Just started Theresa Breslin's Prisoner of the Inquisition and it looks promising. I don't read a lot of fantasy or sci-fi but lately have succumbed to a few (love story attached! LOL) I did really like the first of a trilogy set in 2080 about a girl who falls for the DA's son (forbidden love, given that her family are mafia crooks - or were, since her parents were killed). Basically, her internal conflict is over family loyalty and protection of her siblings vs love for this rebellious boy. Sounds lame, but it was well set up for the next two books and it looks as if the setting will move from New York to Japan. Maybe not your thing but I did love smaller details such as how the author imagined a run down New York in 2080 with blackmarket chocolate and coffee, no veges available, no water supply, crime rampant, etc.
Have you read the Descendants? I have it on my shelf from the library. Was keen, but now just can't muster the enthusiasm for it....would love to see the movie but I always read the book first. Did you like The Help? Comes out on dvd today and I'll def get that one!
    Happy reading and talk soon,
    F :)

I've heard the same about Neuromancer from others as well! Seems like a book which you thouroughly enjoy or don't. I feel the same about Neil Gaiman, actually - had heard plenty of positive comments about his work, but even though they were very well written, I couldn't care about the characters. The protagonist must feel like a friend to me when I'm reading, otherwise I just drops the book and moves on to something I can enjoy more.

Thanks for the recommendations Dave. All the books you mentioned looked awesome, and I am very interested in The Farseer Apprentice Trilogy and Fourth Realm Travelers Trilogy. Gonna hunt our local bookstore or amazon for these gems. Cheers!

I just saw that you picked up Neuromancer by William Gibson. The language and plot can be a bit weird to follow at times, but it's one of those books that I like the more I read it.

I see you've recently put Powers on your wish list. I remember reading it a long time ago, but only vaguely. If you have read it/end up reading it, could you tell me if it is worth buying?

Thanks for the response on the Hunger Games. I think that I will read it. I actually have read the maze runner series, and the other books you mentioned sound great too.

I've actually read all of the Song of Ice and Fire series except for book #5 (Dance with Dragons). I am reading the Inheritance series now. Re-reading Eldest because I had forgotten many of the details when I read it years ago. Then will read the other 2. Just started on the Maze Runner too. I really think I'm going to love this one! After all those I think I might want to read the Riyria Revelations Series. I read your review then looked the series up on Amazon and it looks like a wonderful read. Only problem is I have so many I want to read and hardly any time. The Kingkiller Chronicles, Night Angel Trilogy & the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn Series are all ones that I want read but can only read so many at a time. Too many books and too little of time :(
