Well certainly the second edition of Bessie by Chris Albertson because it punctures one of the myths about the death of Bessie Smith--also beautifully researched.
Hi Bryan,Indeed, I'm a music fanatic!! The Janis book is the best one written (and I've read quite a few on her). Myra Freedman was very close with Janis. But first you need to read Michael Bloomfield If You Love These Blues. It was compiled from interviews from those who were close to him as well as interviews with Michael himself. Very nicely laid out in date order. Let me know what you think.
Thanks, Bryan. I'm a big fan of female blues singers, and most of the musicians, especially of the classic era.
