Aw, that’s too bad. Well, I’m glad that you’re glad you went. How was the Tate Modern? Had you been there before? That must have been something to see. Well, I hope you at least got your Christmas shopping done :)

    Hi Jack!

How exciting! I can’t wait to hear how it went. Have I mentioned that I’m quite jealous? Mainly just to go to the Tate Modern, but to go hobnobbing at the Tate Modern? Now that’s exciting. I’d like to go to London, myself one day. When I was in England before I didn’t make it to London- I’ll have to go back. Make sure you take pictures!

I did enjoy David Mitchell- they were both great reads. I’ll definitely read more of his books. Funny, I thought of you the other day- I read in the paper that our Occupy protest is moving indoors! Yes, it’s getting just too cold, so they’re taking the Occupy protests down into the underground paths! I thought that was rather funny.

Enjoy tomorrow and good luck with your Christmas shopping :)

Wonderful! Take oodles of hob nobbing pictures :)

Some people absolutely loved AG... not sure why. I don't get it, oh well.

I think there are a few Occupy protests going on, but they'd be downtown and I rarely venture down there- it's mainly a tourist area and with the cold weather here I highly doubt they're 'occupying' at night!! Too funny, just goes to show that this generation doesn't have the fortitude that our parents and grandparents had! We can't even protest properly :)

The award ceremony alone sounds like it was worth the time and effort you put into the project! I’m so jealous... I never get to hob nob. Not ever.

I will give Goon Squad a go then- I was waiting for someone I knew to read it and see what they thought of it. I find any book that wins any type of award gets terribly negative reviews mixed in with the good. Probably jealous authors :)

How did you like Goon Squad? I’ve heard very mixed reviews on that one, seems like a love it or loathe it kind of book.

I’m enjoying Cloud Atlas so far, I really like Mitchell’s writing. I think I’ll like Night Circus, it sounds right up my alley- someone described it as Neil Gaiman-ish with a bit of Tim Burton mixed in. Those are two of my favourite people (well, apart from the whole American Gods debacle). We shall see :)

I want to go to your library!!! The most exciting thing my library has is a movie night. They do have a ‘Philosopher’s Cafe’ which sounded interesting, I attended two meetings thinking it would be interesting, but the same blowhard idiot was there both times and completely dominated the conversation. He had a bunch of ladies hanging on every word, and well- I thought the whole thing was just lame and not very philosophical at all. Political, yes- philosophical? no.

Thank You! I’ll check it out and add it to my list.

I just made a BIG book order- House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski, Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell, Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern?, and The Iron Council. I’ll be busy, busy coming up :)

Oh, for the first couple of years he’ll look different every time you see him! They grow up so quickly.

It would be hard to compare books like that, when you have such a broad range of genres and subjects. That would be difficult... it could be worse though. It could be a pile of Harlequine-esque romance novels. Or a pile of ‘urban paranormal romance zombie’ books?

Thanks, Jack! Glad you like it :)

It’s too bad you’re not that impressed with the books thus far. It’s always tedious reading book that you don’t really care for, but I hope, overall it will be a good experience.

Congratulations! That is exciting news, and Thomas is a great name (I have a nephew named Thomas, also). It will be a while before he does anything interesting, but personally, I love newborn babies best of all, probably because they sleep all the time!

    Hiya Jack V!!

How’s things? How are the reviews going?

I wanted to drop you a line to let you know that Jerry M and I started our own group on Shelfari. We’d like to have a place for all genres, music & movies also. So that’s what we did. If you have a free minute (from all your reviewing and whatnot) stop by and check us out :D

No, we won't be affected by the hurricane where I am, fortunately. It was just a severe thunderstorm. I hardly listen to the radio- mainly the iPod or audio books- must remedy that!

I was being a bit cheeky with my astrological predictions- September 1st is my birthday ;-) A healthy baby is the main thing!

Too bad the first book wasn't that great- i'll skip that one I think, but let me know if you read anything great! Do you have to review every book?

So, Jack... in my post below I boasted a bit about not watching the news etc. Since I don’t really watch TV, nor do I get a daily paper- I can go days without having a clue about what’s going on in the world. So, tonight I decide to take the dog out for a walk... it’s a bit cloudy when I leave the house- no worries, I won’t melt in the rain and it’s pretty hot (about 30C) so a bit of rain wouldn’t be so bad. I’m about 3km from the house when a man says ‘hey, you might want to head for home, there’s a tornado coming’. What?! A tornado?! Apparently we’ve been under a tornado/severe thunderstorm watch for a few hours!! At the very least severe/damaging winds are imminent.
I plan to start checking the news at least once a day from now on.

You’ll have to let me know how Down The Rabbit Hole is, I’ve been wanting to explore writings from different countries. One group I’m in, we’re doing an in-depth look at the Iberian Peninsula.

It’s funny how something as serious as the Riots becomes old news in a week or so... I haven’t looked at the news since I was on vacation (or during for that matter). I’ll start again next week, I think. I did see Jack Layton passed away... sad news for many Canadians, he seemed like a stand up guy, for a politician . I’m amazed at the amount of friends on f/book who are suddenly ardent Layton supporters and very politically active... all sorts of tributes and whatnot. Interesting.

That’s exciting that your nephew is due soon! I hope he is born in September... no one likes to be the youngest!! I think September 1st is a good day, a virgo, he’s sure to be brilliant, perfect, intellectual and an over-achiever. Not to mention good looking.

That’s terrible, I didn’t realize that the rioting had spread that far north of London- it is mainly concentrated in London? I can honestly say, that is one thing we don’t see much of here in Canada... normally when we do have any type of rioting, it has little to do with Canada, mainly people upset that the Canadian government won’t aid in civil wars abroad and things like that. Occasionally, we do have small riots/protesting with regards to disputes over lands between Native Canadians and the government. They’re largely uneventful and more annoying than anything. Well, I hope that you & yours are affected too badly.

Good luck with your application! Keep me posted :D

I don’t know about ‘expert eye’ LOL, but I’d be happy to look at it...

That is interesting- the sharing a womb with a female thing is going in my research notes with regards to birth order/twins/gender. Very interesting!!

That is exciting! You’d better get reading! I’m trying to think of 2011 books that I’ve heard a good buzz about- after a quick search, I found that Jodi Picoult has a new one out *snickers*; then there’s the 11th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series- I’m not laughing- I love the Sookie books, but not exactly a stimulating read.
I hear Doc by Mary Doria Russell is fantastic, released in May 2011 it would certainly fit the bill. Everyone that’s read it seems to love it- it’s about Doc Holiday, I think. You could always check the Man Booker Prize long list for 2011 too- there’s probably some decent stuff on there.

I almost always get my books from the library too, unless they don’t have it and I really, really want to read it. I might splurge then, but almost never a hard cover. I hope you get into that group, that would be really cool.

I tend to get delirious from lack of sleep too, my coworkers always know when I’m really tired- I start to ramble as if intoxicated. I can be quite disagreeable too when I’m tired and maybe a bit weepy on occasion. :D

    Hi Jack V!

I haven't been reading much lately at all. Too busy in the summertime- I don't like reading outside, unless I'm alone and that rarely happens. If I'm outside, I'm generally watching kids/dog/ and yelling at both to be quiet :D You did an awful lot of heavy reading the first part of the year, perhaps you are a bit burned out, it is nice to read fluff once in a while. Not that it's fluff at all, but I'm giving The Hobbit a reread at the moment and I started some YA book my mother gave to me.

Viggo Mortenseon is only the greatest actor on earth! Well except maybe Alexander Skaarsgard. Kidding :D I still haven't seen the last two HP movies, I'm putting them off for some reason. I saw the third last at the drive in, and it was terrible! The quality of the movie, I mean- not the movie itself. I'll probably rent them both at some point- I think I'll be sad. My favourite was The Prisoner of Azkaban- loved that one. I think Sirius Black was featured in that one? He's my favourite character, anyway.

Yes, it's terrible about Jack Layton- love him or hate him, I wish him a speedy recovery.

Ooh, I wouldn't want to start work at 6am on a regular basis, but I do sometimes. I have to get up at 3:30 am when I start at 0600. Blech. I think I much prefer working night shift. That is quite an adjustment.
