“ Outliers gives lots of food for thought: why do some succeed? I found the sections on why are better at math or successful... ”

I have it too...did you like it? I've started it three times, can't seem to get connected to it yet.
Endings are only bad when they violate the nature of the story. Certain books call for a certain ending. Dennis Lehane's _Gone Baby Gone_ comes to mind--most depressing ending I've read, but it made so much sense for the book and the series.
Her Fearful Symmetry was an excellent read, but definitely not as good as my all-time favorite, The Time-Traveler's Wife. Ugh. I love that book so much I refuse to see the movie right now! I thought Symmetry's ending was abrupt, but I couldn't figure out how she could have ended it differently. She didn't like her female characters in the book, either, in my opinion. She favored the men. I don't know what that means necessarily, but I noticed it and wondered if anyone else had thoughts on it. Hmmm....
I read PUSH by Sapphire...wow. Graphic but amazing that people live like that.
I have LOVED Life is a Verb - I go back and re-read various sections of it regularly. I didn't like Edgar Sawtelle THAT much...it was good, I liked the writing, but overall, I wasn't crazy about it as a book. I have A Walk in the Woods too - I just downloaded "Say You Are One Too" on my Kindle - it's the latest Oprah book (non-fiction) and so far, it's very good.
Hiking outside and getting a cold runny nose OR sitting inside by the wood stove with a good book and glancing out at the grey weather. Hmmmm.
Outlander is awesome, but it is purely escapist! I think I became an English major thinking I would be reading for a living, but the relaxing eludes me..... haha. Actually, that's not true. I tell my students that the essays will always take a week because I have NOVELS to finish!
what do you think of the book thief so far/?i
