I would like to suggest reading THE ENDLESS HOUR- The True Story of a Haunted Soul.I completed publicationin November 2010.Over eighteen years in the making,THE ENDLESS HOUR is about an illustration I created in 1988 that became reality two years later, which involves a spiritual death experience. This touching and terrifying true story is not only about me.It is also about... you.For more information go to theendlesshour.com. Once you enter the website you can watch the book video andread reviews. You may also want to visit amazon.com and read the first seven chapters of THE ENDLESS HOUR.Thanks,Jesse
Well, I can't say much for the Fairie Queene. Spenser is very anti-Catholic and that sort of rubbed me the wrong way--I was studying it in North Carolina and the south still has a lot of those kind of Protestants--Catholics pray to statues, they worship the devil, other such rubbish, LOL, sorta. So I didn't need more of it. Plus it's so long I would read part of the first canto and decide what you think. If you want to try Spenser, read his Epithalamion; his love song to his wife. It is truly beautiful, a celebration of married love as blessed by God. His sonnets too--some are very beautiful. And I would try the Fairie Queene--you might like it.
Thanks. I don't really expect to be able to do it, but since I am writing a novel and my characters do this all the time, I would at least like to know the benefits. I know I cannot do it; I have hypoglycemia and epilepsy and cannot even do the skimpy fast theCatholic Church requires two days a year. I wish I could; I have friends who do try and fast all through Lent as in the "olden times." I cannot do it even one day a year--for three days after I will be a total monster, so dependent are my moods on eating right.
The neatest thing about this site is how you can add tags to a book, and then use them to sort your bookshelf based on genre, theme, author, location, etc. So you've read the Faerie Queene. How is it? I've been wanting to read it ever since a couple of authors I admire have written very positively about it.
I would say that you are right about Scott, though. Guessing he was the first historical novelist.
