I'm from New Zealand, and have grown up reading anything I could lay my hands on. Still do, pretty much, tend to go through phases of authors and genres. I also like listening to music, it goes hand in hand with a good book. Love spending time with my friends, and also relaxing in the garden.

    Hey Julie,
With my Webster's dictionary and my Latin dictionary, I managed to read The Name of the Rose to the end. It was much better after the first 100 or so pages. I thought it was an awesome and ambitious book for the author to write. I know I learned a lot about the Catholic church too. It was tough going though. I'm glad you managed to read it through too.

Sorry!! The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. I am starting to like it more now--have my Latin dictionary out to help. It's not for the faint-hearted though, but I am impressed by the author's descriptions and knowledge.

Please let me know if you like this book. I am trying to read it now, but find it tedious to say the least. I have read the reviews people have posted on it so plan to keep plugging on!! Best wishes!!

I am not certain how much most people know about The Name of the Rose.

It was a remarkable best seller. First in France and Italy, winning the Prix Medici, Premio Strega and Premio Viareggio, then in the US where it sold more than a million hardcover copies and goodness knows how many paperback copies.

Quite remarkable for a book so crammed with the obscure and arcane. For example, the last line of the text "I leave this manuscript, I do not know for whom; I no longer know what it is about: stat rosa pristina nomine, nomina nuda tenemus." includes a quotation from Bernard of Cluny. The Latin translates as "Yesterday's (past) rose endures (remains) in its name, we hold (have) empty names." Which is lovely, but a tad obscure for most people.

I am looking forward to the discussion.

Welcome to Good Reads, Julie. The group profile should give you some idea of how the group works, and the shelf provides a list of books we have read.

For March, we read American Gods by Neil Gaiman; for April, we read the Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent. And, we are reading and discussing The Book Thief by Markus Zusak for May. Next month we will be reading The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco -- a wonderful book, but not for the faint of heart.

Please feel free to post to any of the book discussions (old or new) and vote when we post candidates for July (around the first of June). We are glad you joined and want to encourage you to participate.

G’day...mmm..do u guys actually say G’day in NZ? Or have I just insulted u with an Ozzie greeting? ...oh, wait wait...just trying to resist a sneeze...darn. Failure. Ok..where were we? Oh ya..Hello :-) Hope yer well there and having a good wee day. All’s well here.. quiet at work, most people are off for xmas now and no students around..great. How’s things on your side of the planet?
Sorry about ur bad news..working till 5pm on Xmas Eve...how evil is that? We need to send 3 ghosts to visit your boss and give them the spirit of xmas.. Poor you. Ah well, you can at least be comforted by the fact that I’m also stuck at work until then too (but with a secret hope to escape early)...and..while you’re having fun on Xmas day, I’ll still be at work. Ok..just trying to make you feel better. Guess it will be a mad mad rush to the parents then. Sigh.
Yup, had the weekend..Tuesday at the moment. Already forgotten what I did then. Watched Christmas Vacation DVD, that’s all I can recall.. Muck ups seems to have gone unnoticed, and nothing today so far..hoping I can hold out until Xmas. :) Ya, there’s definitely a high Muck-up/Xmas ratio...
Ohhhh noooooooooooo.....huhuhu....how unlucky am I?! The boss brought in a box of chocolates just now was offering out the 2nd round. I did ok this morning on the first round, got a 3 layer chocolate sweet....just dug my hand in and grabbed whatever..buuuuuut.... on the 2nd round just now...i grabbed one at random.. and guess what??? Ya...i got the darn Coffee flavoured one..arrgghh. I HATE the coffee one... They’re from the Devil’s own chocolate factory. Love all chocs...but NOT the coffee..anything but that... It’s awful Julie..and now I have to eat the thing.
Actually it was quite funny..it all went in slow motion for me..i saw the chocolate tray..I reached up..put my fingers unknowingly on the coffee one...my eyes flicked up to the bosses eyes..his eyes flicked down to the coffee one, his expression a mix of smug relief and surprise at my choice....then the dawning came in my mind that I have the only coffee one in my hand and no chance to change.. pulling it away, knowing my fate... Oh, the pain.
Shame on you, saying some bad things about Dark Tower.. ok..don’t worry, I’ll forgive you in time. ;-) OK..so we’ve agreed it took a week for the Dome events...just seems so quick for it to all happen. You’d have thought the government would have waited more than a week (well it was less I guess) before thinking shooting a cruise missile at them is a good idea... there are quite a few things I’m not so happy with in Dome..but I still love it to bits ;-) I think if it were me, I’d need a month before I got twitchy.. but ya, people do go stupid when any small events happens like snow or power cuts, and try stock up and buy all the food..so I suppose it’s not so unrealistic really..I’m just fussy i suppose ;-)
Ok..seems maybe you’re like me with Diceman - a little unsure what to make of it. You can share ur final verdict at the end. You said you had to stop cos Lucy wouldn’t settle after the lights went out...erm, do u often read with the lights off ;-) Just pulling your chain :-)
Oh I think the Diceman author’s name is a pen name, the author is George Cockcroft it seems..I guess he’s done it like that to make us wonder if there’s something autobiographical about it..but it’s still weird whatever. It’s probably just like that to be as provocative as possible.. i think it would have worked better with more variety of options for the dice.. he could keep some of the wild stuff, but just not have that as the only options, which kinda got very repetitive for me. Would probably have been more powerful too that way. I think shock value stuff is best for occasional use..if it’s all the time, then it loses its effect and looks gratuitous. :-)
Well..hunger games was nice and quick to read, and I kind of slightly speed read it...it because I got that and the sequel out for the library, and we get 3 weeks..so I’m trying to finish before that. I can renew but I think I can get through and return them. Already half way through the sequel – I read 80 pages just this morning on the way in to work...but..that’s cos the darn train was about 50 mins late! But that’s good for me, means I can probably finish it before Xmas now.. Cool... i thought I wouldn’t finish Dome before xmas..and here I am finishing the 3rd book! :-))
Oh i probably put it too strong that someone warned me off the Dark half.. it’s on the Stephen King form here, I’d asked if I should read that or Dead Zone, and nobody backed the Dark Half at all I think. I’m definitely coming to you for the King recommendations in future, you’ve got the same taste. I couldn’t read more than one book at once, I’d get all mixed up and stuff..and once I get into a book, I’m too curious to know what happens next than to open a different book. Ha, if u read Dark Half again we could have another book race ;-) Erm, I don’t tend to read based on mood, cos when it comes to books I almost always want a darker one.. but..let me recommend a nice funny one for you. Called ‘Are You Dave Gorman?’..it’s on my Shelfari page if you want to check it out. Might not be up your street but I just found it funny, 2 guys on the hunt to meet people called Dave Gorman (the author’s name)..and it’s all true and happened. See if u can get it over there, it’s pretty good if a wee bit silly ;-).
Oh, glad to know the secret santa went down well, even if it’s head fell off...classic! Well done for breaking it on wrapping..gosh, you must be a rough wrapper lol....am sooo glad you’re not wrapping my iPod! :-) Mmm..Jelly Belly Jelly Beans for you..ya average, but edible..always a plus. My hat is fine..just hats and me don’t seem to work.. :-)
Oh yaaa.. nice white Christmas at the moment, but still a few more days before the big day, and it’s already thawing..darn, I’m sure it will be gone by xmas just to annoy us all.. then no doubt will be back in January to make our commute hell again.. But that’s how life works, got used to it already ;-) But ya, would love it to come on Xmas day..haven’t had a white xmas day in years. MMmmm..ya, not much chance for a white one your side though....u never know though! ;-)
Well, you think you’ve finished your xmas shoppings..but come Thursday we’ll probably remember some last minute thing we need..always like that. But ya, so far so good..everything under control. Sort of. Mmm ya, definitely don’t forget the gifts when u go...not good. Exactly the sort of thing I’d do too. Oh my boss, well I mean another boss in our office is a bit of a scrooge .. our secretary has gone OTT with the xmas office decor as usual, but that boss always hates it in his room and tears it down. So she’s cut out a 1cm long bit of tinsel and stuck it on his wall.... looks so funny.
Ya..you’re mom will be in the xmas mood..she’ll be counting the days till you come home no doubt - you can tell her that’s her special gift. Save a bit of cash. ;-) Ooo u ice the cake too..Bonus!. My dad makes a wicked sage and onion stuffing. Highlight of the year. Ur NOT a alcoholic..yeah.sure ;-) Believe u ;-)... one whiff of that icing and you’ll be on the bottle again ;-)
Yup, a tiny family does make things less stressful sure.. less pressies though...oh but less to buy too. Works both ways ;-) Well..hope your family get together goes ok, hope u get some peace too. Hmm, dunno if people’ll make a big deal of the teenie decade change..guess not. Oh, I was reading that Santa is such a bad role model for kids..he speeds, drink drives, breaks into houses is obese etc.. ;-) Oh I hope you’re giving the other half some grief over not getting your pressy yet..but ya, at least that leaves still some hinting time available, so get to it!! :-) No stunning gift = no more computer games. ;-) I’m not allowed to play computer games, but I’ve found out that the iPod touch has lots of cool games so I can sneakily play them on the train..ah bliss. Thing is I can imagine me being too self conscious to play games in public on the train. Plus then I may as well going around with a sign hung from my neck saying “mug me, I’m carrying a shiny new ipod in my pocket”. Oh ya, can identify with your wanting something in June buy change ur mind by xmas. I’m always desperate to get some dvd or something but after getting it then it just get’s put in the cupboard and not watched.. bad me.
Good you..resisting wearing the shoes. Hope they last you! :-) Oh..the Holy shoes/sock joke has been used by my dad for years and years..you see what’s happened..dad’s said it, it’s been overheard and gradually spread all the way to NZ...u’ve heard it somewhere subconsciously and thus think it’s your joke when in fact it is dads(tm) joke...Nah..it’s ok, I do believe u that it’s ur original joke, just a coincidence!.. Oh our xmas tree is a 5 or 6 footer..that’s why the lean is so obvious. If we lived in a certain Italian city it might look like an xmas tribute to a certain tower. And some of the branches are missing. Love how you said your flatmates mum upgraded your tree.. sounds like it’s a PC or something and your ordering new parts to fit on it. Like upgrading the pines to version 2, or getting a new wi-fi model. Sorry..it’s working in IT does it to me.
Crikey..your Lucy is turning into a bit of an acrobat..she’s not getting any easier to handle is she! Now you have to be on the lookout for flying cats and mountaineering kittys. Is anything in your home unmarked by her? She had a go at the xmas gifts under the tree yet?
Ohhh..Dillinger and the FBI together ring a bell. Mm..maybe i thought he was head of FBI or something daft. Not interested in UK history at all, so other history of the US isn’t a top topic for me. But you should know it if you’re a top quizzer ;-) And now you’ve told me the FBI killed him...totally spoilt the Public Enemy movie for me, lol ;-) Fortunately no plans to watch it. Just don’t tell me how Titanic ends..i want that to be a surprise. ;-)
Ok..I’ll definitely check out the Lovely Bones movie, but since you love the book so much I think I’d be best giving that one a whirl too, maybe first. Please do remind me about it after xmas and I’ll get a copy somehow. :-) Thanks!
Princess and the Frog too huh? Yah, I caught the trailer for that..I already thought they’d stopped making hand drawn movies..but seems not yet. And I thought it was one of these straight to dvd releases their doing, but no..looks like a full movie. Will catch it too, but later as it’s not quite my type. Do like some Disney though..can be a wee bit twee sometimes though :-)
Ya..so xmas day off..and the whole of next week!! Works out at 10 days if u count the weekends in. 11 days for you..fab. Oh..ya same here..3 days come out of my annual leave..but we get 30 so it’s not too bad. Dunno how much I’ll be on t’internet over the vacation time so might not be in touch as much then, or just little ‘uns. But will be pestering you again in the new year no doubt. Will send u my email addy through shortly too.
Cool..so have a not too busy few days at work I hope..Hopefully we’ll still get chance for a message or two before xmas, but if not then have a really fantastic Xmas with your folks and my best wishes to you for 2010!! And Fingers crossed for Snow!..ok that’s getting too optimistic.... Say hi to Santa!

Hey there! :) Ya, the time difference thing is hard enough with just working out what time it is there, on top of that need to figure out if you’re just getting up or going to bed as that might add another day or something..ok..now I’m confusing myself more so need to just go with the flow and the time will sort itself out. And this week I’m also confusing myself with the office stuff..the muckup from the boss means we’re using extra backup tapes, and moving labels from one to the other and not using some..well, without boring you more with details let’s just say my brain is getting fried.
Oh, shame the Dark Tower dragged for you, normally that would probably happen to me too but I read them back to back and it didn’t seem like a 7000 pager at all (I think I worked it out at that..having nerdy tendencies makes me do that kind of thing...). Wonder how long it took me, can’t remember at all. :-) I guess with a book so huge, it would kind of be hard to stop after the 4th book or something.
Ya..take your point about Dome being hard to continue with no air and stuff..and ya, he’s kind of done that in the stand. Another thing with Dome was that didn’t it all happen over the space of a week? Seems a bit quick for everything to go so awry.
(bum... made my first slip-up of the week just now..forgot to tell the boss that there was an ominous beeping coming from one of our main network servers pcs..gawd, i’m always forgetting stuff like that - i must look a proper nana...well, at least I can have more lie-ins on a morning if i get fired!).
How’s the Diceman going? The thing I find disturbing about books like that isn’t the story..cos a story is just a story for me... but it’s more that the author thought all that stuff up in his head. Kinda makes u wonder if the authors has, u know, strange tendencies or fantasys. Dunno really. But of course murder writers aren’t murder fantasists... just when stuff gets a bit twisted, makes u wonder why they thought it up. Anyway, ya..definitely one of the more surreal reads, and the author is probably quite normal really :-) Ya, agree about finishing the book.. and can’t really make a judgement on these things without seeing the whole picture. But ya, it was a book I can’t make my mind up if I like or not. But I know I don’t love it, nor hate it. :-)
Oh..finished that Hunger Games book..more Running man than 1984 but ya, it did improve..the 2nd half of the book had a good exciting pace and kept my interest so ya quite a good read, nice n easy to get through too. Would recommend it if you want something easy, but don’t go out of your way ;-) I’m into the sequel now, think this one’s more about them trying to whip up a revolution.
I’ll let you know how Lovecraft turns out when I’ve read a couple, looks pretty darn good - I’m quite optimistic about it. :-)
Oh, i got warned off the dark half, but i fancied it before..it was that or the Dead Zone and, as I’m sure u know, I went for the latter :-) I do like ‘em a little darkers..so maybe I’ll bump that one up to be my next King story..I think you’re probably very much on my wavelength book wise so I’ll definitely go with your recommendation :-) Mmm..but want to try a Lovecraft, and another Koontz..ahh..too much choice now.. brain..malfunction...must...rest...
Ohhh..never thought about checking out Golden Years on YouTube..ok smarty, I’m gonna do it now..just a min please...
..ooo, only found the 1 link.. Looks not over bad..for it’s age, but my hopes aren’t high..just fancy seeing it again after so long. :) Mainly I remember the make-up being crap...they never can seem to make young people look old with makeup can they.
Soooooo...when are you breaking for xmas..? I’m working right up til Christmas, hoping the boss will show mercy and send me home at lunchtime xmas eve though.. not getting my hopes up though. Oh.. I guess I haven’t told you about my xmas parties yet? Well they went ok.. the gay guy liked the stuff I got him for the Secret Santa, he apparently loved the pom pom doll toy kit, and was playing with it in the afternoon..already build one fluffy doll with it (and it turned out his partner knitted someone a scarf for someone else’s gift). I got off quite lightly thankfully, just a non-embarrassing dark blue woolly hat – u’know, those with the strings coming down from the ears. And, fortunately I didn’t buy the willy warmer, cos someone else bought someone one..and it was the exact same..er model, that I nearly bought. So that all went well, oh and it was snowing outside when we did the presentation so looked very xmassy. Covered in snow here these days by the way. And the meal was very nice..Italian, great quality. Niiice.
How’s things going there with you..are u now in full xmas mood?? Did u sort your secret Santa..come on, spill the beans..what did u get?
Hey, will Lucy be getting a gift from everyone too?? Well..she’s probably on Santa’s naughty list, but you never know.. even naughty kittys deserve a little xmas cheer. Maybe u can give her a padded tail sock to protect here little tail...oh she must have used up most of her 9 lives I’m thinking.
Well, ya..must be fab going to see ur parents over xmas.. how often do u get to see them these days? And ya, I’m totally with you on the chat/socialising/small talk thing.. dunno if ur like me but I don’t really like popping to see uncles and aunts (well, dad’s friends, we call them uncle/aunt). Me too find it awkward, tiring etc. Getting a bit better, but not much.. so totally understand all that. Glad u get on with ur folks though, good time of year to be with them too. I have to admit, I do love Christmas time.. am not a religious about it or anything, just love all the xmas atmosphere, music and stuff.. it’s the one time of the year when it’s really nice, people being nice to each other etc etc. I’m such a sucker for all that, ha. :-) Oh the family is very small..almost non-existent ;-) .. just got dad really, my other half and a few distant relatives who I hardly know anyway. Mum buggered off at the start of the decade, with non-stop bad luck really after that, so I’m gonna be darn glad to get the Noughties decade behind me and hope for a kinder...erm...Teenies?! Is that the word for 2010-2019?? No idea!! :-)
Oh..haven’t you dropped enough hints for Bones?? You amateur, Julie!! ;-) You need to ‘accidentally’ drop into your conversations how amazing it is, and how a new season is out on dvd.. :-) Over enthuse.. Point it out in the shops..even hold it and let people see u looking at it longingly, but slightly disappointedly since you can’t get it.. Ah, I’ll help u with your technique more next xmas, since shopping time is as good as over this year.
Well, the good thing is that whatever you get will be a surprise, and that’s half the fun isn’t it. :-)) Hope it’s something nice.
Ohhhh...holy shoes. That’s one of my dad’s most well worn jokes too ;-) I just bought some, but now I want to take them back and change the for the nice boots I saw (snowing, u’see)..but lost the darn receipt. Well, hope u manage to find a pair soon.. can’t u hold on for the January Sales??? :-)
Ya thanks for the sympathy on me getting my own gifts.. they never pay me back ;-) Don’t mind though, least I’m getting the stuff I want.. even if I am poor now ;-) ..Ohh..what’s with the “That’s cool, but I don’t want it for xmas”?? Poor mum.. That’s probably why ur not getting the stuff u want...next time say “i want that, and this and that and that and this..got it mum? Need a pen and paper?”. I’m very helpful about my gifts, I’m never short for things to ask for...bad bad bad me.
Mmmm..grandma definitely has some eclectic gift choices for u...there’s probably some logic in the spoons somewhere though, just can’t quite find it at the moment ;-) Maybe cos ur in a (I guess) newish place she thinks u don’t have all that kind of stuff.. ok I’m clutching at straws, I admit it.
Nah, too scared to buy more decorations to add to our tree..it’s leaning to one side as it is, and don’t want any nasty xmas tree based accidents to explain away in ER this year. OMG..ya, ur right..best avoid the whole lucy-finding-the-xmas-gifts-under-the-tree-and-peeing-on/ripping-them-up situation. How tasteful is your house decoration this year? We just did the tree thing – too lazy for more.
I don’t really know much about John Dillinger, other than the name..maybe I should watch that rubbish movie just to find out. Why do i have the feeling he’s someone I should know about and rather embarrassingly don’t. Actually my general knowledge is shocking.. don’t you ever have me on your pub quiz team Julie. Unless we go for that loser prize :-)
Fingers crossed for Alice In Wonderland.. looking forward to it. And good for you seeing Lovely Bones..don’t know too much but I do know I really fancy that one (seen the trailer - has that nice indy feel about it). So do enjoy (and fill me in on it after)! Yaaaaa...such a rotter, releasing it in the US first..but he did do the LOTR premiere there though methinks, even if it’s not your cup of tea and forever associates NZ with the darn thing!! :-))
Slight tear shed about the office toys....sniff. Not good at all.
    Hmm..only 3 more days working..and a whole 10 days at home. Heaven.
Well... enjoy whatever it is your up to today..and apologies for the huge note again, lots of stuff that needs talking about as usual :-).. Ok...that’s all...don’t forget to pass on all the gossip from your side too.
    Cheery-bye! :-)

Hey there. Yeah we did pretty good really, managing to finish at the same time..took a whole month to get through. I think the shorted book I read recently was that The Road, which was a bit pap, that wasn’t much more than 200 pages :-) Kinda strange not having the Dome with me.. (by the way, i loved the line in Dome that said something like “the earth doesn’t really have gravity...it just sucks!” – he keeps coming up with lines that that which make me smile).
I love really long stories that don’t really end (though while I’m reading them I feel i wanna push on to get to the end..strange me). That’s why i like the Dark Tower..about 7000 pages of Stephen King goodness, so always more to devour :) I think I like serial books, but there’s not many good ones..well, that I know about. So ya, love good thick books best, and then have a couple of little easy ones in between.. :)
No twist end in Dome (oo i love a good twist me – and I never guess them), but very happy with what happened. Actually, I think I’d have kinda like it if the bit after the explosion was dragged on a bit.. that would make it more like the Stand where there’s just a few characters struggling along to survive..but ya, can’t complain..it was abs. fine.
Yeah.. interesting to know what u make of the dice man..i don’t think it’s too special, but it seems one of those controversial books that make u think a little. Although his choices are random, he seems to pick all his own options which are all about killing or doing bad stuff..so it’s not really so random. Think he should have more nice options, like give money to the poor..y’know balance it out a bit. Ya..was a bit of a weird book though :) Did like the concept of it though – living randomly.
Oh, the Hunger Games is sort of a cross between 1984 and The Running Man by King, but not as good ;-) It’s in the future and 24 kids from the poor areas are drawn in a lottery are entered into a tv contest where they have to kill each other until 1 survives. Already about 200 pages in, and they’re only just starting the contest. It’s pretty good, not great but will see how it goes now it’s picking up.
Didn’t know too much about Lovecraft, just knew he was a famous horror writer. But seems some King fans are fans of his, and King seems to rate him..so I had a sneaky look at some of his work and it did look quite good (don’t usually like stuff written so long ago, but the language seems fine). Looks to be mainly stuff about strange nightmarish creatures and worlds, but does look quite creepy. Well, will find out soon i guess. Never read a full one. The stories were supposed to have been printed in all these pulp mags, like King used to do..so sounds promising. I found a book with most of his work in so giving that a shot :-) And they all seem quite short stories so nice if I get bored ever.
Ya..ermm...best check the library not the movies for books ;-)) You’re getting worse that me for slip-ups Julie!!
....oh..we just had a fire alarm, so just got back now.. Grrr.. they always seem to do it whenever I need a wee.. ;-) I did toy with the idea of popping to the loo on the way out, but u never know. :-) Well, it’s a little bit exciting at least. The fire alarm i mean.
Ok..Rose Madder then. :-) Or The Dark Half? It’s not really that I want a break from King, could read him non-stop..but have a few others I wanna try, and also will feel a bit sad if I don’t have any King still in reserve. :)
The Golden Years TV series..must be from the 1980’s (oops, imdb.com tells me it’s 1991). Don’t remember too much about it, but remember enjoying it at the time..but i think the special effects will be a bit pap now. The theme tune was Golden Years by Bowie...:-)
Yup..still no cock-up (must be a record)..but the boss is making more, so get’s me to pick up his mess. Well, that’s the advantage of being the boss i guess :-) Sorry to hear you’re still having some though, you must have reached your quota by now?! ;-)... anyway, it will help u appreciate the xmas break won’t it. For my xmas break, I think a lot of long lay ins are due..a bit of Wii-ing...oh play with my ipod. Sorted :-) Me too hasn’t had a proper long break for a long time.
You walked Lucy to the Vet? Hmmm..how does that work then? Just not up on cats and stuff, so..does that mean carrying her in a little box..or does she kind of follow along..or do u have some sort of fancy cat-harness?! :-) My bet’s on the box thing (has her poor little tail healed yet?)..hope the vet didn’t spot it or you’ll be taken away for cat abuse! ;-)
My goodness..it’s amazing Lucy is still alive isn’t it??? .... you’ve tried to poison her with your flat mate’s pills...tried to amputate her tail in the door....nearly had her squashed on the roundabout....locked her in a shed..And that’s just the stuff i can remember ;-) Are you sure you’re cut out for this loving cat mum business??! ;-) hehe. MMmm...maybe the sleeping on your head thing was indeed a veiled attempt to suffocate you, and hence prolong her own life. Could have been worse, what if she’d decided to have a little wee whilst sat there.....
Cool. Going to the parents. Looking forward?? Hope so.. I’m staying home, rarely travel anyway as my family is minute! Always thing xmas is best at home. Turkey, pressies, xmas songs and daft tv... Ooo, getting another bones for xmas? The whole lot or a new one? Really should keep my eye out, or see if i can sample it on t’internet. Shoes too..great. I got some new shoes last week, but now I’m thinking I should have got the boots..what if it snows?! But i lost the darn receipt. Doh!. I think it’s nice if u can have some surprise stuff.. I like knowing what I’ve got, cos then i can look forward to it, but it’s nice if there’s an extra surprise there. Oh, I buy my own gifts cos everything I want is always cheapest online, and I’m the only one who shops online. Trouble is no one ever pays me for them..so I end up just paying for all my own stuff too ;-) Sigh.. will never be rich. Oh what do you get from Nana? I used to get hand knitted weird cap things...but it’s the thought that counts right ;-)
Yup.. the Alice in Wonderland movie looks cool. Hope it is, can’t go wrong with Burton n’ Depp. Oh, didn’t see Public Enemy but I heard it was a stinker..don’t worry, it’s a one off I’m sure.
Well...my tree is ..ya..fake :-S... We went for a minimalist effect on it (cos couldn’t be bothered going up to the attic to get more)..it’s ok, a few of the lights are dead..and from a certain angle looks a bit scawny..but it’ll do ;-) Now need to put all my shiny new toys under it...except of course the Wii, which is still in testing ;-))
And how can you say your work place is dull...it’s full of toys and stuff.!!! Oh yes.
You have flat inspections?! Major bummer... Well, good luck for that one.
Oh..maybe i should go have that wee now. Been waiting since the fire alarm, wanted to finish this first :-)
Well..you must be Thursday now... worked out that I need to think 2 days ahead. How mad is that.
Take care n have a good one!

Oh cool, seems you fair rattled your way through the last 200 pages (sounds strange, most books don’t have much more than 200 pages..) .I had a sneaky suspicion that you’d be there too :-) Anyway, I did rather naughtily have bit of a head start on you and it’s worked out pretty well, if I hadn’t had the head start I’d still be fighting my way through the middle of it :-)
Yeah, it is pretty darn good..and I was quite happy with the end, things got resolved and no real loose ends..no real twist though, kind of went according to plan I guess – bad guys get their comeuppance and the good guys get out, on the whole :) Yeah..not as good as the Stand or IT..but not too far behind methinks. Only thing was when I found out the dome was alien stuff..i thought, oh no..let’s not go down the whole aliens and space ships route please.... don’t really want any sci-fi stuff in it..but..it worked out pretty well. And it was just very slightly too moralizing for me with the..oh we play-torture ants and they’re doing it to us..we should be nice to people.. ;-) But that’s my only very small niggle :-) But overall very good..all the characters were amazing. I was fooled by the big jim thing at the end, thought his buddy would sort him out..not what happend, but I liked it.
Ok..Dice Man for you now. That one is definitely different..still not really sure what I made of it, probably won’t read it again though. Ya.. my new book is quite light, already got through 45 pages this morning as it’s an easy read - i like that, feels like I’m making progress...with Dome I always thought I wasn’t getting anywhere as u know :) Might even finish before xmas, but i guess not..parties will interefere. Oh I finished Dome on a Friday too, which was perfect..no weekend to interrupt the story. :-) I’m probably not having another King book for a little while.. got some others I want to try. First gotta get these 2 Hunger Games books (my current read) out of the way and back to the library, then I probably want to try another Koontz book.. and for Xmas I’m getting a huge hardback compilation of all HP Lovecraft’s main stories so i fancy giving that a try see what I make of his stuff..never read any. Had a sneaky look at it and seems ok. But thinking ahead for King...maybe Rose Madder/Needful Things/Lisey’s Story..something like that. Not sure yet (ur advice is always welcome). Oh for Xmas I’m also getting a Stephen King TV series dvd.,..Golden Years. Wasn’t a novel.. it’s about a old guy who keeps getting younger after a accident or something. I saw it years ago and enjoyed it..but I think it may have aged badly ;-) Darn, I’m spoilt aren’t I?
No cockups for a while..the boss is taking care of those, and I’m clearing up the mess ;-) Least it’s not just me. Oh, but one of my website uses has a major problem, which could drop me in it a little (it’s giving him results from previous sessions)..but I’ve got my fingers crossed that it’s just his browser cache that needs clearing and not a bug... if that doesn’t work, then could be a difficult week ahead. Sigh. Did you sort your cock-up out? Hope so.
Nah..my parties are on Thursday and Friday. I’m gonna be partied out by the weekend. Ooo...freezable wine glasses...how weird and wonderful :-) I always accept I get the wrong thing. If I buy something outrageous everyone will buy sensible, and visa versa. Some people just know the right things to get. My only problem with the secret santa is that the guy is popular and outrageous, but also kind of bitchy type. So gotta be careful. Played safe with his gift... I always pick the difficult people, or the folk I know nothing about. So when is your Secret Santa? Did u get your gift yet? Gawd..I hope mine isn’t another embarrassing one. I just wanna melt into the background :)
Oh, glad to know Lucy is still keeping you on your toes.. Hey,at least she’s trying to spice up your gardening sessions, makes it a bit more exciting for you...well, I guess she knows you don’t have a heart condition otherwise surely she wouldn’t jump out at you (the pigeons here scare me, they wait till i walk past and then fly away with their scary squeaky wings that make me jump). Good good..she’s finally getting the bladder control mastered. But really Julie..it’s no wonder she has anger management issues when you’re squashing her poor little tail in the doors like that...it’s always the way though isn’t it – spend ages getting them to like you, and one little slip up and you’re in the bad books again huh.
I once fancied having a house rabbit..but I was sure I’d probably step on it or something being clumsy so decided against. Well, that and having rabbit poo all over ;-) Anyway..hope your legs have stopped bleeding now.
Hey an mp3 player is essential! And I’d already gone and got the Wii as my xmas pressie...so the iPod had to be a treat. I’m so, so bad. Hey it’s arrived too. Weird, it came normal post..yeah postie, just jettison it through the letter box why you? Wonder how it will be after the 4 ft drop to the floor! ;-) You’d have thought it would be a sign-for :-) Anyway..I’ve decided not to play with it until xmas, since the Wii has been violated already..several times..and that meant nothing brand new and exciting to look forward to opening ;-)... Though I have had a sneaky look and touch of the ipod..and I’ve installed iTunes to get ready.
Actually I’m totally with you on the whole Apple/iPod/iTunes thing. I’ve always sworn to myself that I’d never ever sully my hands with an Apple product... In fact I had a neat little Samsung player on order at the start of the month, and it was due out on the 7th, but when it hit the 7th came they still hadn’t it said out of stock and I’d heard that people had been waiting since July, with the release date getting put back..and I do need me little Mp3 player.. so I cancelled, and then I fancied another one, but it was about £20 more than the iPod which everyone seems to love...so...I’m afraid my morals cracked and I had no choice really. It was available, and looks nice. Hey, ok..so I’m weak willed, I know it. Well.. anyway, I’ve kind of been convinced by the iPod, since I’ve found it’s got some cool games like my fave Pool game (and they only cost 50p!) and it does look pretty darn neat so I’ll stick with it. Annnd..I did kinda liked the iTunes thing I was playing with... so..see how it goes I suppose.
Oh..and the Wii nunchuck thing.. ya.. I figured out what’s wrong. My official nun chuck works with my motion plus, but it doesn’t like the non-official (read ‘cheap’) nunchuck. Sooo.. should have bought official it seems. Darn thing... anyway, not essential as it’s only used for the not fun games (read ‘the games that need lots of energy and make me feel tired..’) so maybe see if I can get a check nun-chuck in the January sales. Then in the new year maybe I can actually save up again :-)
So you’ve nearly sorted all your pressies out..great. Can’t relax until everyone is sorted can we.. hey, try wrapping up all the gifts on xmas eve..that get’s me in a Christmassy mood, maybe it’ll work for you too :-) Are you off back to your family at xmas or staying with your roommates..I would guess it’s kinda fun if all your roommates had it together. Well, Peru must mean xmas is on a budget this year..but I hope you get something nice. Did u ask for anything? Any suspicion about what’s under the tree for you? Ermm..i’ve bought most of my own xmas pressies..how sad is that? ;-) Guess I should pretend I don’t know what they are.
Yeah the 3D movies are pretty amazing (the big screen IMAX ones anyway), really great..make me feel a bit queezy though...not a good idea to sit in front of me, euurghh. But the last one we saw I kind of got used to it and it’s not special anymore..so not bothered really next time. Mind u, they will have Alice in Wonderland (Johnny Depp) there in 3D soon...but...nah, probably won’t go. :-) Fancy that movie though..
Oohh flying again at New Year? Anywhere nice? :-) ‘Welly’ – what a cool nickname..! Should be good fun anyway.. hope so. Yeah even xmas isn’t quite as exciting as a new King novel..but hey, I can accept xmas. Looking forward to a long week off..hmmm. Great. Finally got the tree up at the weekend too!
So..how’re things going with you? Let’s have all the latest gossip from there please :-)
    See ya..have a good one.

Hey you there.. Look at my shelf.. go on, look.. did ya notice anything?? Did ya? Did ya??... yup I bet you did, you is a smart cookie! That’s right - I finished The Dome!!! :-) I am now in the Post-Dome phase of my life. Isn’t that cool?!! It happened this morning, and I wasn’t quite expecting it. I thought it was just going to be another normal every day morning, but there I was..turning over the last page of the book and returning it to my bag forever.. (well not forever, just until I get home really)... I can now carry a bag of normal weight and shape, at least until xmas when I’m getting another obscenely huge hardback.
Julie..I feel lost. It’s done. The adventure is over. I’m no longer a Domer. Game over...sigh,.
But hey..still lots of King on my shelf so..it’s time to move on. Put it behind me and get on with my life as best I can. ;-) But I can tell you is that I am satisfied with the ending, as so often I’m not. Kinda wanted it to go on a bit more..but I have to accept that the last page has been turned. There’s a recommendation to read The Stand at the end of the Dome, but by gosh I already did.
I’m thinking you mustn’t be far off being done too, or maybe you’ve Domed too and finished.. if so, don’t worry we can get through the grief together and help to move past it. Heck, I’m already feeling better :-) So don’t worry..it’s not as hard as it seems. There’ll be new King books in future I’m sure. :-P
As for me, I’ve already planned for my future.. been to the library and grabbed The Hunger Games and sequel..a teen book i think but seems well recommended (heck, I even discovered King’s written a recommendation on the back cover).
So ya.. surprised I managed to finish Dome with a week to spare!! Hope you’re done too so we can gossip about it.
Anyway, you have yourself a fab weekend...and don’t be sad, there IS life after the Dome.. ;-)

Hey there :) Cock-up free week so far..but still 3 days left, so still time to achieve a whopper if i put my mind to it.. oh don’t worry cos i erm don’t worry about my little accidents. Oh, you’re watching the Simpsons movie (well, not right now I guess..unless it’s a lot longer than i remember!)..well, hope it doesn’t give away the end of our book..that’d be not on. The Dome people in the book haven’t attempted to motorcycle wall-of-death their way out yet..and no appearance of Spiderpig yet unfortunately (hope I’m not spoiling anything for you there).. Mmm, u’ve kind of got me in the mood to watch it again, would be interesting given what we’re reading... Sounds like a plan.
Darn, xmas is more than creeping up now..it’s fair jumping on us. Xmas parties next week, on consecutive nights..ah, it’s all too much for me.
Omg, lucy peed on a clean washing basket?! That’s like the worst place she could pick..ever. Well, unless u count a plate of food without u know or something..ohh sshhh..let’s not give her any ideas. Bad Kitty!! The nappy idea seems more promising though..
The suit of armour guy was some sort of misguided fashion statement..he was wearing it in all seriousness, think no-one’s had the heard to tell him that he, well, looks a little daft. Must be a nightmare going to the loo too.
Oh I usually stay away from docs and dentists too..only go to the asthma clinic cos they won’t give u a new inhaler until you go..evil people. :) Ya, no-one mentions swine flu these days.. people just love to have a panic about whatever the latest fad is.. My arm is better by the way :) But still haven’t had the nerve to take the plaster off yet..wuss! Besides, the plasters from the docs seem to have industrial strength glue on them..been soaking for ages and no sign of slippage. :)
Oh..no fun having the party too early, then back to work kind of defeats the point. But oh well, better than nothing. But sounds like it went very well. I’m not really looking forward to mine, I’m more of an introvert and they’re all extraverts so not my cuppa..should be ok though, usually enjoy it when i get there. I’m sure you could all go out for a drink on the last day before u break for xmas anyway. :)
Oh i see u had a non-work cock-up this time. I don’t really count my non-work ones or I’d loose track. But ya..yours sounds a bit of a good ‘un (though the blueberry crush sounds delish)..but ya, the drink would probably have been nicer had it gone inside your mouth that down your front. Well done anyway, seem you managed to cover everything in the immediate vicinity with your drink...almost a 10, but you had some left in the glass so I’m gonna score it a 9. Not good though, had to walk through town with it down your front (bad you, just an excuse to go shopping wasn’t it!).. Anyway...Tip: wear black as much as u can like I do, not really a fashion thing..the spillages don’t show up as well, y’see. ;-) Smart, huh? You can get away with most things, I know :)
But ya, right now you’re in the lead for cock-up of the year 2009.. still a few days left for me to beat it though. Let’s see.
Sooo...you’re on the purple flashy light thing in the Dome.. doing great! That can’t be far behind I think.. erm, won’t say more just in case. Not really liking where it’s going with that, but otherwise still think it’s great ..particularly the characters as usual :) I wonder why he knew to use the Geiger counter as pretty much his first idea.. sometimes I think some things in King books are a little too convenient if u see what i mean. Doesn’t stop me reading though ;-) Ya..he’s very good at baddies though..i just knew you’d be wound up by them. It gets worse as I’m sure you’ve probably found out! Ya..Comeuppance..that’s a heck of a good word isn’t it!?
Bill Murray is in Zombieland?? Oh..must..see..it. Love a bit of Bill Murray (thinking Groundhog Day here)..but Lost in Translation was painful..though it seems a love/hate sort of movie. I do love Shaun of the Dead..especially the bit where they’re choosing which records are acceptable to throw at the oncoming zombie. :))
Umm..still haven’t put our tree up yet..maybe at the weekend. It does help with the xmas mood..just a bit lazy. ;) You’re not having a good deal of luck with the decoration though..cat hat one, flatmate bust another. I guess if Lucy really wants to play with it then there’s not much you can do about it.
Oh did u get ur secret santa gift yet? Last year (or the one before) i was given a pink feather bra, and pink washing up rubber gloves with white fur trim and pearls. Still in my drawer if i get the urge. I’ve decided against the willy warmer, don’t want to be the only one who goes too far. The first year we did it I didn’t really grasp the concept, so everyone had hilarious gifts and had people in stitches, and when the one I’d bought came there was stoney silence for a bottle of wine and chocs. I’ve decided to play safe this year, so got him a pom-pom doll maker game thing (like woolly balls with eyes), and a day-glo bright yellow sparkly knitted hat. Still can’t help thinking it’s a little boring though. Ah, I think too much. It wouldn’t be so bad if they actually kept the sender secret..but they all tell everyone afterwards.
MMm..i’m not sure but i think my wii controller doesn’t work..sigh. It works..but when i put that nun-chuck thing it, then that one doesn’t work. Typical! :) Maybe it’ll have to go back after all that wait to get it :)
Oh..I’ve decided to treat myself to an iPod touch..so waiting for that now...cos clever me managed somehow to put a huge crack/smash in the screen of my fave mp3 player..which is a touch screen thingy so the screen aint working anymore..sniff.
Oh there’s always volunteers to play wii. Had a mini wii party at the weekend (yes yes, I know it’s for Christmas...yes yes I know I’ve played it every weekend so far...I can’t help it ok), then we all went to see A Christmas Carol in 3D at the IMAX screen..was so so, but nice to have a Christmas movie. :)
Mmmn..ya I think you need a long distance flight before you decide if you really like flying.. 50 mins, that’s like the distance from here to France – the plane’s just finishes taking off and then it immediately starts landing again.. wonder if you’ll like it being cooped up for 12 or so hours, trapped in a small metal tube breathing other people’s bum winds...erm, I’m not helping am I? Ok..but I’m sure you’ll be fine ;-) Guess it depends how well you sleep :-) Oh ya, take a book is definitely a good idea..takes me ages to read stuff so time flies.
Englands in the top left of your maps?! How dare you!! ;-)) Should be slap in the middle of course. Hehe..kidding. Ooo..don’t think I’d want to be at the bottom though.. So if America is top left, you should probably think about flying west at first..but i think that’s cos ur not a daft as i am so you know it’s east. :-)
Your right, my last flight was hell. But you’re wrong that i didn’t have someone talking to me and bothering me (oh but that was the other direction cos I had the seats next to me free). Some Italian bloke had latched onto me and decided he’d come sit next to me and talk every time I started to read, or when i was just on the verge of dropping to sleep for about the only time I managed it. Ah well..c’est la vie. Ermmm.. I think you take your MP3s as far as I know..I know I had mine with me, but I think I didn’t use it cos wanted to save the batteries :-) U can always watch the movies and music anyway :-)
Tubular Bells huh? Ya I’d heard their stuff were like epic or something...but it never occurred to me that u’d only fit about 4 songs on a CD - told u i was daft. Why does ‘Tubular Bells’ kind of sound Christmassy ;-)
Mmmmm..the wonderful odour of cat pee where u r sitting now huh? As long as your bum isn’t feeling damn then you’re probably ok...I say probably. Some air-fresheners for xmas maybe?!
Well have fun there.. Hope ur well and having a good day!

Howdy.. Today is not only cock-up free, but I even achieved some stuff..great. Won’t get too excited though, we all know cock-ups are waiting just around the corner, ready to pounce.
Well..I suppose if she really is a pshyco kitty then she’s hardly likely to be offended if you call her it...she may even prefer it..erm or preffuuuurrrrr it (sorry). Maybe those pills she ate were vitamin tables or something..might explain her hyper energy. Anyway, she seems a tough little thing so that’s good. Wonder how old she is..not that i have a clue about cat ages. You should’ve taken her to the gig as ur body guard. Ya.. don’t really like to jump in the mix in the crowd..crazy folk. I went to a gig once and there was a guy dressed in a suit of armour..quite seriously, not for a joke or reason. He was, of course, on his own...bless. Another gig..there was a guy in the crowd playing air-guitar..ok, can just about handle that..but the funny thing was that a guy just near him was playing air-drums! They almost had a air-band going. Can’t believe u failed the quiz though Julie, thought u had it all nailed now. :)
Yup! Immune to the flu now hopefully, not that it was much to worry about..well, i get asthma so I’m offered the flu jabs at my yearly check thing.. and they’re gratis, so hey why not (apart from the needle thing..eek). Ahh, it’s cos you guys down there are all really laid back so that why you’ve not really got wind of it ;-) Over here we’re all tense and stressed about anything so panic stations usually.. but I’m pretty laid back really – y’know I won a certificate for being the most patient worker in my office last xmas ;-) Indeed.
Ermm..well that’s the closest i’ve got to fainting yet.. I’m so glad she gives me the jab always at the end of the appointment..that way I can rush outside immediately and take some deep breaths, rather than dropping to the floor in front of the nurse..not good for the street cred. But ya, nearly took a little trip with the fairies this time. :) Ya ya..i know it’s just a jab, try telling my subconscious that tough..
And my arm still hurts a bit.. *sniff*.
Hey..up to page 615 now i think.. :-) Seems i found a bit of pace finally.. But...I have 2 xmas office parties..and a day off next week..so that’s 3 days down the drain too. Hmpf. But still trying to get it in the bag before xmas. Oh and glad to see you NZers use ‘arse’ and not ‘ass’. Credit to NZ there. Yeah, so not going bad but still wish we could finish around the same time...but I know I won’t read over xmas..and I hate having a weeks break (being super forgetful). Yeah..would be nice to say a few things about it, but I’d hate to say anything to spoil it for you..and I’m not sure what’s happened where you’re up to..so have to be super careful what I say about Dome. Guess I’m ok to say that I’m not sure I’m too keen on what looks to be the cause of the Dome..just hope it’s going to be something else in the end. Still struggling remembering who everyone is.. but still enjoyable. Don’t think it’s going to be a Stand beater though ;)
Ooo..Zombieland. I’ve heard of that, but don’t know too much..would love to hear your opinion when you’ve seen it. I’ve head it’s kind of a comedy..should be good. I think they compared it a little to Shaun of the Dead. Did u see that one? Now I did like that one.. :-) Quite funny.
An 8’ Xmas tree..goodness. Did u need to cut a hole in your ceiling?? That’s huge.... We have a medium size one and then stick in on a table to make it look like we bought a bigger one ;-) Boy, you’re pushing your luck with an xmas tree and a curious new kitty cat aren’t you.. I can see she’s gonna have a whole lotta fun pulling those baubles down and dragging all the decorations around the house...so...feeling more Christmassy yet??
As mentioned above I have 2 xmas parties from the office..one is with my main group.. We have to play secret santa (in case u don’t know secret santa - we all have buy a small secret gift for someone whose name we’ve pulled out of a hat). This year’s theme for secret santa is Wool gifts, and usually it has to be something funny/daft, or outrageous. So of course most people are thinking the classic Willy Warmer. My idea is a toy ‘fun with wool’ game for kids where u can make little wool toys..thought it might be fun to play with at the party...but...if i want to be more outrageous/rude I found a Christmas santas-hat style willy warmer online. Problem is the guy who I have to buy for is gay and I don’t want him to get the wrong idea if he finds out I bought him that. ;-) So maybe I should stick with the inoffensive, if a little dull, wool toy game. Arhh..what would you suggest I do..or do you have any ideas? Really don’t know what I should get at the moment.
ERmm..have to admit..the Wii HAS been played with on more than a few occasions already..trying to be good though. And it will need testing again when the other controller comes won’t it..... Haven’t broken/hurt anything with it yet though. Ya never know..they might come cheap sometime. Well..ok..probably not.
Ok...it’s 10759.11km to Peru from there..(note the .11 – like to be precise, us nerds). Ya...the confusion about the direction of Peru from there...i think it’s because on our wall maps, the UK is in the middle, so that means NZ is all the way over in the bottom right corner...so if you went east/right you’d hit the right edge of the map... So you’d obviously need to go left to Peru. :-)... Ummm...maybe I should use a globe to look next time. I guess on a NZ wall map, the UK would be nearly dropping off the left side (but at least the US might be on the other side)..oh naughty me... Ahh..since you love flying maybe you should take the Atlantic route after all!
Oh flying for me..I had a long flight last time and I asked for an isle seat (so can have breathing space) but they put me in a window seat..so I was cramped in there with about 0.2cm leg room, no free space at my side..and I had one of those annoying guys in front of me who reclines the chair all the way back (and more) during the whole trip..plus he closed the only window so I couldn’t even have something to look at to take my mind off it.. got a little panicky i have to admit..don’t like being trapped. :o) Yeah, the height thing is weird..really hate heights, but love looking out of a plane window. Doesn’t feel like it’s high does it... hehe, i like looking at the fluffy clouds :P
You’ll virtually be starting your weekend now I guess...how lucky are you?! Still got another full day to do here tomorrow. Hey..enjoy your xmas party there..let us know how it went! :-)
Ok back to it..and will be Doming in another ermm... couple of hours later :-) Ciao! :-)

Hey there u. How’s it going? Back from the weekend of fun I see... and' Psycho Kitten' - like it! You’ll give her a complex if she hears you calling her that though. That is if she hasn’t put herself in animal hospita byl gobbling your mate’s pills. Argh..bit of a handful isn’t she..which is also unfortunate since she seems to like a good bite of your hands. Glad to hear you enjoyed the show, seems your revision paid off! Yeah, it can get a bit wild down the front..don’t know pearl jam really, but some punk gigs i’ve been to looked pretty darn scary there..so I used to scuttle off to the side or something. You got quizzed on the songs?! Man, that’s tough! Tough, but thorough I suppose ;-)
Haven’t made any cock-ups today yet.. bonus!
I’m officially immune to swine flu from today..had my flu jabs yesterday :-) I’m such a big girl though, I hate needles..bit of a phobia there I’m afraid. I knew it wouldn’t hurt or anything, but after she gave me the jabs I came over awl funny.. she was speaking to me about a prescription and her voice became soooo muffled and distant, just like we were speaking under water..then when I followed her out the room I wasn’t walking in a straight line either..gawd I’m such a baby i nearly fainted I think ;-) And I’m told I’d gone pale with sweat pouring from my forehead ;-) Breath of fresh air sorted me out though.. How embarrassing, huh?!! But it’s ok, I didn’t tell the nurse and pretended like I was fine ;-) Shouldn’t really tell you cos you’ll tease me ya wee bugger, but hey ho..that’s the amusing thing of this week for me, so shouldn’t keep it to myself now should I :-) And my arm aches today too..got one in each side!! Being a bloke I’m playing up the fact that i have some wounds ;-))
Ok..didn’t read any dome yesterday cos of the docs, but I sneakily read some over the weekend.. broke the 500 page barrier this morning..I still seem to be reading this a lot slower than anything else though. Trying to get it done before xmas. Yeah, the story does keep picking up as you go along. Well...don’t know what the dome is made of yet..but I think I’ve sort of found out how it’s got there just recently....so I’m guessing that in the end it will tell us what it is and why it’s there. You’re really catching up super speed Julie! I think we’ll probably finish it around the same time which would be really great, or you’ll pip me to it!! I think you’re gonna enjoy some of the things that happen soon - it’ll get you all tensed up and mad at the bad guys ;-)
Oh ya, my office journey is a 1 hour ride on the train, followed by a 3 mile walk..and then again coming back. Good for reading and exercise..not much fun when it’s snowing or something! I’d love a 20 min walk, you lucky wee scamp. There’s a bus from the train station to my office..but I’m too tight to get that. Costs me a small fortune on the train. :-)
Hope you’re not falling for the puppy eyes with Lucy when you tell her off (can a cat have puppy dog eyes??). Did you start buying her little treats and toys? But then I guess your home looks like a big toy box through her eyes though.
Yeah I hadn’t heard of the Twilight books until the movie either...and I haven’t seen the movie yet either. I thought it looked ok, just never got round to it.. Not in any great rush to see it though obviously. :)
I really feel sorry for the guys who had tickets for the MJ concert.. can you imagine how excited they all must have been? Then what happened must have been the most gutting thing in the world for them. But looks like they did a good job on the movie..haven’t seen it though.
Oh I had more trials trying to get that Wii add on..(motion plus, if you have nerd curiosity).. they sent me a ‘we’re trying to get it from our suppliers’ email..so I found another (reputable) site, with a huge first customer discount which made it about half what I’m currently paying..so I made the order and added the voucher code...and...only bloody crashed when i submitted the order, didn’t it. :-) So the order didn’t go through but conveniently the voucher got used up...grrr. :-) So stuck with the first company..but got the dispatch email today..finally. So it’s not all ease and convenience on the net..but better than fighting my way though all the xmas shoppers I suppose :-) Ya, you’re right..that original company did get the last laugh! :-)
Ohh....maybe you can buy a Wii whilst on your trip to Peru..gotta be cheaper over there surely? 2 birds..1 stone. Fab. Yeah..ask Santa very nicely and you never know (or drop a huge hint to the bf).
Oz..don’t know..just don’t fancy it. But the Pacific Islands..that paints a nice picture in my mind.. :-) Hmmm wonder how far you need to go to get to Peru from NZ...google time!... Ooo..6685 miles.. that’s pretty far. Had a look on the map... hehe, i never think about you needing to fly East there!.. Just instinctively feels like that’d be the wrong direction, but must be the way to do it from NZ :-) But then I am a bit daft. It’s just cos we’d go over the Altantic, so my minds set to thinking west is the way to Peru! :-)
Glad you liked the plane trip..! You seem have warmed to that a lot. I’m not so keen.. don’t mind the flying...or the heights (terrified of heights usually, but on a plane am quite happy to press my nose to the window the whole way!)..it’s more the being cramped up in a tiny little space for several hours.. and not so keep on the take off thing..always feels like it’s dropping out of the sky!
Ooo..seems I had verbal diarrhoea again, so should probably stop typing there. :-)
Have a fab...erm..(just confirming)...post-hump day! Probably. 2 more hours until my next Dome session begins.

Good afternoon. I haven’t cocked up at all today..or yesterday. Some kind of record there methinks. Well I can blame my boss, but it’s not a good idea that..;-) But at least he won’t blame me..that’s the main thing! :-) And my train was ontime..can’t believe it and at last I almost read another 30 pages...that’s more like it. If only i could keep it up.
I hate having squeaky shoes..so self conscious. Cringe every step. Looks like you’re more aggressive on your shoes than me!! I walk flat out, top speed for 3 miles every night so i don’t miss my train, so goodness knows what you’re doing to punish your ones..
Well, kind of good news that you’re not much further in with Dome, cos I’m absolutely sure you’re gonna be motoring though it soon...I’m glad I had the head start now, cos you’re a nippy wee reader. Ermm, put my maths cap on now..so about 17 days till xmas.. at 25 page per day..is about 425 pages before Xmas. Darn, it’s gonna be close..don’t think I’ll make it though. Sigh..well at least it will last longer :-)
Oh ya ur right, it’s not a glass dome of course ;-) Otherwise, I guess someone would have at least tried throwing a brick through it..;-) but glass or whatever it is, I’d still keep hitting my head on it and not learning, just like Homer. Oh, a window cleaner could make a fortune there!
But if u put Lucy in nappies, it may humiliate her enough to get her to stop peeing all over. :-) She wouldn’t be able to show her kitty face on the street..but seems like she’s getting control of that little bladder of hers. Seems she’s settling in nicely.
Oh..Secret Window, Secret Garden..now that rings a bell..unless it’s The Secret Garden bit making me confused. It’s been ages since I got 4 Past Midnight so no idea what the stories in that one are..except the langoliers. Will read it eventually, but it’s another darn hardback. :-)
Oh..yes..movies are usually in 3s..but horror movies..well, they’re in 6 and more these days ;-) We’re up to Saw 6, Freddy 7...Friday 13th gawd-knows-how-many! :-) Even Children of the Corn had about seven..and that was a Short Story! ..goodness, they don’t know when to quit! But ya, I’d welcome a jeepers 3 i guess.
Ermm..must admit that I thought about trying the twilight novel...just to see what the fuss was, but that was before I figured out it was a teeny vampire romance thing.. money well saved there methinks. Oh ya, I heard that the Micheal Jackson movie was great, saw the trailer when I went to Up..good how they managed to put it together from the rehersal stuff. Must be a mega bummer for the people who had tickets to the show though.
That Wii’s getting expensive..had to order another controlly add-on thing since the game with it wont let u have 2 players without it..which is the whole point of Wii, right. No fun on ur own is it. And the internet shops taking ages processing my order, 3 days already.. hehe, you know what..i got annoyed waiting for them to send it since it’s supposed to be in stock..so I cancelled it and ordered it from another shop at the same price instead...then i found out that both shops are owned by the same company..darn!! So back to square one ;-) But I think I’d rather see Peru than have a Wii (oh that’s rude too, having to tell people I want to have a wii for xmas).
Ohhhhhhh..Pearl Jam time is here?! That time went quick didn’t it! Well, hope u have a great time..you should know their songs better than them by now.. ;-) Can’t you just tell the other half that you’ve listened to them all already? He won’t know will he? :-) Just tap your food in the right place and you’ll be ok..
Never been abroad yet? Well..Peru must be a cool place to start!! You’ll love it I’m sure, haven’t been of course but looks like one of those special places.. I guess there’s not so many places close to NZ to visit really..except Oz..I’ve heard from everyone who has been that Oz is amazing..but, it’s just one place that has never really appealed to me, don’t know why. NZ looks ok though (but then I would say that to you wouldn’t I, hehe). No, really it looks nice there.
Well good luck with the plane trip.. ya you could take under the dome with you, but be careful of the excess baggage charge for it ;-) It’s huge. :P
Anyway..enjoy the trip if I don’t hear from you first (and even if I do!). Laters dudette!

Hey there.. i’m at the peak of my hump now, though will probably be on the downhill when i’ve finished writing this.. Doing some great cock-ups at work these days..keep forgetting to format our backup tapes so it fails in the night..darn..and darn my memory too. Fortunately the reason I need to format them is cos the boss accidently deleted our whole backup database..sooo...that means i get away with it ;-) I needed to get in early this morning to sort it, but of course the train was cancelled.. twice..so had to go all over the place to get here..and got here about 5 minutes too late to do what i needed to do..sigh. Annnd on top of that, the train thing meant my Under the Dome reading session was cancelled...yet again!! Arrghh.....
Oh ya..white sneakers are a definite no no... I’ve switched to my old pair of shoes, worn down to a millimetre..but my usually ones have developed a ruddy annoying squeaking..in both shoes. I was so self conscious whenever i get up from my desk and walk across the room...eek-eek-eek-ekk....s’ok at the mo’ though. Maybe a trip to the shoe shop at the weekend.
Sounds like you’re really enjoying the Dome..great to hear it. Loved the bit from the woodchucks perspective. Yeah a few annoying characters too -that Junior Rennie guy clearly has some issues ;-) Story is shaping up nicely.. You’re doing great 100 pages already.. seemed to take me ages to get that far.. my read rate is usually about 30pps (pages per session) but with Dome I’m doing about 15 or 20pps ;-)... weird. So what with ur long bus trip coming I think we’ll be converging pretty soon. I reckon I won’t finish before xmas, but hoping.. i just know i won’t get chance to read over xmas... so let’s see. At this rate I’ll be luck to finish by next Christmas!.. On page about 300 or something at the moment.
Oh ya u gotta have lots of people for the quiz haven’t ya.. get the old atmposphere going. Bit of an expensive round for the bonus though. Oh ur right a King quiz would be too tricky probably..look at us, supposed fans and we’re always getting mix up with stuff like his short stories..sigh. Plus I’ve got quite a few unread..blush...
Oh ya..all that smelly pollutant under the dome..and where would all the cow farts go? Must be bumper sales for those face makes.. no rain though, always a plus. I’d probably keep walking into the glass, being a clumsy clot. I’d be one with a permanent bloody nose. Have to admit, I’m intrigued about the water being able to come through the dome a little bit.... wonder if that’s gonna be important. Probably not. :P Darn..still not even half way through..and i found out it’s 875 or so pages..not 800.
Lucy still a pee machine?? Darn.. nappy time methinks. I knew someone who used to put a nappy on their pet dog... Is it poor old you who has to clean up to leaks or do your housemates chip in? Haha..so she peed in the right place, but someone had moved the tray..ahh c’est la vie.
Well..glad the whole gender issue is sorted. Could have given the poor thing issues for life!
Oh, I’m a bit of a Johnny Depp fan myself..in a manly, did-you-see-the-game-last-night sort of way of course. Edward Scissorhands is one of my favourite movies... don’t know why, i just don’t find the Secret Window movie too appealing. Should really try it though, never know might love it. What’s the proper title of it?
Ha..being the consummate nerd, I went and checked t’internet and it seems there’s not a Jeepers 3. Though for extra nerd points, it seems there may be one in 2011 :-)
Ring Wraiths! Come on.. the big baddies in it. Those in the black cloaks like ghosts..Pah! Call urself a nerd huh! Hehe.. oh I saw a great T-shirt for nerds online the other day..printed on it was “I’m Not a nerd! – I’m a level 9 warlord.”
Ok to polish up your Nerd level here is the link for LOTR cartoon on youtube - www.youtube.com/user/Jakegothicsnake#p/u/11/scjiNC5RV3A Go on, you know you want to watch it ;-) You know it makes sense ;-)
What??! You don’t like Twilight? I love it..... Don’t worry, don’t worry.. just joking I’m not a twilight person, i’m of both the wrong gender and age to enjoy that one (i.e. I’m not a 13yr old girl). Twilight is all that’s wrong with vampire movies these days..give me the Salem’s Lot tv series any time. Or Lost Boys...though haven’t seem that for years.. But I don’t know why almost all vampire movies have to have a scene set in a nightclub playing heavy metal music with people dancing in cages...is that a contractual thing with a vampire union or something?!
I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m a buffy person though either ;-) Just happen to have bought them all..ya, I’m not convincing you am I. They’re all a bit cliché for my liking.. but at least it’s funny occasionally :-)
Haha..Wiinjury. Like it. Ya..definitely seems possible..my elbows were throbbing on Monday :-) And when I broke my wii virginity at a friends house I nearly whacked his sister one in the head playing tennis as she sat on the sofa near us. You really do have to be major careful with those things. The friend just flicks his wrist to do it, but I’ve noticed all the new people really go for it and swinging their fists madly all over the place. They should have a health warning..darn things. It’s kind of keep fit which I like about it :-) It’s not in the box..it’s under the tv ;-) Can’t be bothered setting it all up again..but trying not to touch it. I got my battery charger yesterday..so maybe need give it another test..ok resist resist.
Peru..fab!! That’d be amazing. I was gonna push u to get your own xmas list sorted, but if Peru is on the table then I can back your no spend policy....oh, you could ask for cash, hehe. Good luck with that, hope it comes off..will be a mind blowing place I’m sure. Glad to know u have a good sense of adventure.
Ah ya... Santa is magic..how could i forget. That’s how he gets in my home without a chimney. He can time travel too?! What a dude! He’d be nothing without his elfs though.... nothing i tell you. ;-)
Yup feeling a lot better now..but Dome is still getting neglected, thanks to my darn traaaain. Hope you keep enjoying it too!
Today is my hump day..but every day is a Dome Day :-)
Enjoy your post-hump, and good Doming to you.

Well done you!! Duma Key in the bag, now ur a Domer. I think you’re gonna catch me up pretty easily, I think fate doesn’t want me to read this book as for one reason or another I only seem to be getting about 10 pages read in a session.. dunno why .. Like the last 2 days I’ve had a bug or something and didn’t have the energy to read so I just closed my eyes on the train instead. Having said that, I’ve managed to claw my way up to page 300 today. Sounds a lot, but it’s not even the half way mark!.. I’m wondering if I can get to the end before Xmas..I’d hate to have a weeks break in the story. :-)
Glad u enjoyed Duma Key though, I did too...Hum, i’m not sure that I want to have read ALL of his books.. not having a new King story must be quite hard... :-)
Ooo..and well done you on the bonus round with free drinkie-poos. I hope your team was big, get better value then ;-) Now if only they have a Stephen King themed quiz..........
Ermm...I’m afraid my soaking wet shoes did stink an inckle bit. Fortunately (for my workmates) they aren’t sitting too close.. Ohhhh..that must be an advantage of living under that Dome!.. No rain!.. It’d be warm too. Maybe it’s not such a bad situation after all. If the Cat pees on your Dome I can imagine she’d be having a few nights outside... Any luck getting her to pee in one place yet? What about the vet check, did it happen?
Oh, Secret Window is in 4 Past Midnight.. I have the movie, but I haven’t watched it yet. Can’t really imagine Johnny Depp being in a King movie, but I’ll check it out at some point. By the way, what do you think about the book Hearts In Atlantis? I’ve head it’s something about Vietnam veterans, which really wouldn’t float my boat..do u reckon I’d like it? I’ve been hearing good things about Needful Things too..seen the movie/tv thing a long time ago though.
Ha...what is it with you girls and handbags?! Mind u, i’m more fussy about my backpack these days, but that’s only cos the darn things keep breaking. Like my darn shoes too. I walk loads to work, so within about 1 month the sole is down to 1mm thick. I’ve bought cheap ‘uns, expensive ‘uns none of em ever last! Sigh.
Aha! It was Jeepers Creepers 1 that I definitely saw..just checked out the trailer on youtube (being a nerd, i had to find out). Ermm..have a feeling I saw the 2nd one too..trailer is familiar..especially that school bus thing!.. But ya, the first one was pretty cool now i remember it :-)
Oh ya..no one seems to know about the cartoon LOTR. But it’s a bit of a cult thing, it is very good mind. Well i think so ;-) Got proper Brit actors like John Hurt (such a great gravelly voice) doing the voices ;-) It was bloody scary too for kids, let me tell ya. The Ring Wraiths in the live action movies are big girls blouses compared to the ones in the cartoon. ;-) I’d urge you to check it out, but no bugger likes it so i think you won’t ;-)
Bones is now officially on my ‘to-check-out’ list. Thanks for the Buffy cred too... not cool for me to own them I know, but I bought the first one cheap..and as u know, having one demanded having the other six. Sort of. Well, that’s my excuse anyway and I’m sticking to it. Really don’t know why i have them, can’t do with teenage vampire romancey type stuff. But at least it’s tongue in cheek. :-) Nobody but myself to blame.
Yes.. a Wii is my xmas gift. Of course, at the weekend I had to test it out – just to make sure it’s working, you understand. So I gave it a good couple of hours testing (can’t be too careful). I may have to test it again this weekend to make sure it’s still working before I put it away for xmas ;-) I’m so bad. I never thought waving a little white stick around could be so much fun!! Ah well, someone’s gotta do it.
So what’s on your xmas list? Christmas can be so expensive..sigh. Hey, how can santa be at your mall in NZ?? He’s over in our mall here!....Mmm...something fishy there.
Yeah, our shops have had xmas things in the windows for the last month or more.. I mean, get a grip pur-lease! Julie, give in to it..go with it..it’s the only way. We know it’s wrong, but we can’t change it...so just do what i’ve done and accept it. ;-)
Now..how’s ur Dome coming along???? Hope you’re well into it already.
Oh..ur hump day i guess.. well maybe not when u read this. No idea really..it makes my brain hurt when i try work it out.
    Ciao

Oh no, still with Duma Key? Well..that’s ok since Duma is pretty good. Hurry up though! ;-) My reading speed is starting to pick up.. I always start off slow while I’m getting to grips with who is who in new books, especially in Dome because there’s quite a lot of people! But ya, I’ve been struggling to make progress with it even though I’m enjoying it.. am about 200 pages in at the moment, mmm only another 650 to go! ;-) I wonder if it will keep me busy until xmas.. Oh you were annoyed that the Duma daughter died, huh?.. yeah bummer!! It was kind of on the cards though..but ya, major bummer. Actually i don’t remember exactly what happened..didn’t someone come kill her? I think so.. Well, guess you’re really getting nearer the end.. it all kind of speeds up toward the end, but i wasn’t so keen on the end as the beginning :-) Gawd, I am so fussy huh.
Enjoying Dome quite a lot, hope you can join in the fun soon too! Couldn’t you put Duma Key on your lap in the pub and secretly sneakily read it in between questions?! :-) Oh, I’m a bad influence. How was the quiz anyway??
Yesterday I got absolutely soaked in the rain.. well mainly my feet. Huhu.. It felt like i was walking along with my feet in 2 goldfish bowls... And i had to sit that way the whole day..well i did slip off the shoes for a while to dry out. Not happy... We have a lovely day of grey today, but tomorrow I hear it’s going to be awful again..sigh.. But I’m smart these days, I’ve wrapped Dome in a plastic bag :-)
Oh funny you thought we’d have Friday 13th on different days...but it’s not so blonde a moment really, cos we almost do have it on different days, in a weird sort of time zone mind-binding thing. It messes with my head ;-)
Oh ya..you’re right, Langoliers is in 4 Past Midnight... Night Shift is just monster ones. I haven’t read 4 past midnight..forgot all about that one in fact. But it’s on my shelf somewhere.. and darn, that one is a hardback too i think (Needful things/Sunset are my other hardbacks – dome is the only one i have attempted). My bag hasn’t busted cos of the Dome yet...my bag always used to be busting, so I splashed out and bought an expensive one which has been great..I’ll cry if Dome makes a hole in it... :-) My bag strap (backpack style) always snaps at the most annoying moments, once it broke when i was going up a busy flight of stairs, thereby throw all my stuff down the stairs behind me..another time it snapped when i was running to cross a road..stuff on the busy road that time. Sigh.
Glad you’re having more luck with the duvet watering. She must have learned it’s being naughty.. see, now she’s doing it on your floor. That’s a good sign, it’s moving towards the right place. ;-) Next it will find the litter tray. You never know, you may grow to like the aroma :-) ... Urine de chat.
Omg, you’re not sure if Lucy is a boy or a girl? Poor thing, what if it’s a boy and you’re calling him Lucy, he’ll never live that down with his cat buddies. You could call it Luke if it’s a boy. But I guess you’re right.. They seem hard to sex..not that i’ve put much thought into it. Well, be worth giving her/him a bit of a check over anyway i suppose. All good!
Ermm..not sure what the story of the Jeepers Creepers I saw was, but I don’t remember lots of high school students being in it.. it was a couple i think, sort of in the middle of nowhere, like along a lot of corn fields or something. They kept going into small roadside bars trying to get help but no one believed them...well that’s what i remember anyway.. and the scary thing jumping in front of their car. Is that the one where they drive past someone dumping a body-shaped bag at the start, and he comes after them? Or am i getting my horror movies mixed up..they all kinda merge into one I think ;-) But i do remember it being quite good :-)
Oh..now you’re being modest Julie.. everyone who paints well says stuff like ‘oh i just dabble’ :-) You don’t have all that paint stuff for nothing u’know.
Ok..maybe I will give Bones a try then. It slightly put me off having that Angel guy in it, cos he’s more teenage girly type things like buffy..(btw, have all of buffys too..hehe - i’m such a hypocrite)...(also talk crap somethings cos i haven’t watched Angel either). But ok, I’ll give it a whirl when I can.. sounds like it might be ok :-) Will avoid watching it at dinner time though.
Well done you, with the Cricket.. that’s a run on the board. More than i ever managed...next stop, your first 50. :-) Maybe you’re a bowler really...
Yes...there was a cartoon LOTR.. that one seems to be a love/hate thing.. most people hate it, i love it ;-) Just has a darker feel to it, not the twee softy Jackson LOTR.. Ermm.only problem is they didn’t have enough money to finish it, so it’s only the first two books.. Hmpff. But boy, it did scare me as a kid that one. I was lucky to catch it really, it’s only cos my mum was a fan..it was on tv and she recorded it on VHS years ago...and it hasn’t been repeated once. Otherwise I’d have missed it too (no bad thing from your point of view though, hehe). Oh, I liked nostalgia stuff too... like I buy all the stuff i loved as a kid, so i have stuff like a Thundercats dvd set, Dogtanian and the 3 Muskerhounds, Monkey magic, Mysterious Cities of Gold, Dungeons and Dragons...lots of stuff I will never really watch ;-) But I love the feeling when i watch those, takes me back even if they are so dated :-) Ok, I admit it again..i am a sad nerd!
Nooooo he wasn’t taking the piss out of Queen...of course not. Ok maybe a little. Nah..he wasn’t. He just wanted us to clap ok?! ;-) You should do a search for ‘Al Murray Queen’ on you tube..Al Murry is a pub landlord (comedian) who is a real male chauvinist and xenophobe (taking the piss out of the British male really), who thinks Queen are the best..cos it’s real proper pub rock ;-)
Oh December will fly by.. already bought my gifts, packed em ready..only dad’s awkward never know what to get him ;-) I’m having a Wii for Christmas..nothing quite like a good Wii .. i’m easily amused me. C’mon, we need to get you in the Christmas mood, you cynical bugger you ;-) Ooo..i do like a good Christmas! ;-) Jingle bells, jingle bells..la la la.
Hump day is behind me now, well into post hump day. Clawing my way to the weekend. Just counting the minutes until lunch time now..
Have a great weekend there u. Good luck with Lucy/Luke!

Hey there.. hope you’re well :-) Ya..it’s very much like me to forget what day of the week it is.. I’m always doing stuff like that, goodness knows how I’ve got through life... Thing is, I’m responsible for data backups at work too so I’m always sticking the wrong day’s tape into the computer..and generally getting into states of day-confusedness ..tsk. I’m not even old yet. Poor me. But ya, thinking it’s Wednesday on a Thursday is far far better than thinking it’s Thursday on a Wednesday... much closed to the weekend y’see. 
It reminds me of one time when I got up ready for work, had breakfast and was about to leave the house at 7.30 when i realised it was in fact Saturday. Doh!! Major doh!...
Reaaaally sorry for starting Dome..but don’t worry, for some reason I am being super slow... I’ve been reading nearly a week now and I’ve only got about 80 or 90 pages through. I think when I start new books, especially this one, I want to read it slow and absorb everything.
Plus I’ve had my readings mucked up a lot this week. Friday night was a awful coming home from work. We got halfway home and the train just stopped still for half an hour..then they told us to get off cos somethings blocking the route so we had to wait another 30 minutes for a shuttle bus to the next station (in the cold, and heavy rain [which just started and lasted long enough for the journey, of course])... then jumped back on the train. So I got home 1.5 hrs late. So all in all was on the go for 2.5 hrs. But somehow I only managed to read about 10 pages!! Can’t understand it. I think i must have been listening to the announcements, and also not reading in the rain for fear of getting my lovely new book wet. Oh, but I don’t want to complain because I found out someone had been hit by a train further along the track and killed. And..I also found out it was Friday the 13th!!! Scary..
Anyway..book is coming along nicely.. enjoying it but it’s not like I thought it would be so far, good though... the review in the Metro newspaper gave it 2 out of 5... grrrrr. But it’s fine so far. They said there’s no supernatural element to it..but i don’t mind at all. The characters are so good, as usual. :-) That’s enough for me! Did you start it yet??? C’mon Julie, I’m reading as slow as I can.. help me out here! :-) Can’t you throw Duma to one side for an ickle while? Go on, you know it makes sense ;-)
Oh..they shrank the newspapers here to get the train sized...but they still manage to open it to fill both seats!..
Pleasently surprised by Everything’s Eventual. Looking forward to the rest, when I next need a filler. ;-) Night shift is the one with all the monster-hiding-in-the-cupboard type stories, don’t really appeal to me.. but EE is fab.
Oh, so you do have a bit of experience with cats..well, it does seem you are making some progress with Lucy.. seems to be settling in. I’m assuming there’s been no more perfumed duvets etc. You must feel a great sense of responsibility... her well being is totally dependent on you..God help her.. (kidding). Oh ya, vet visit..good point. Start saving now ;-) Oh..and a biter too..that would scare me, being a wimp and all. It would be oven glove handling only ;-) Well, just remember the cute things and try to put the sharp or stinky things out of mind. You should buy her a Go Go Hamster (YouTube if they’re not in NZ yet) ..
I think movies scare me more than books cos a book can’t really make me jump. Books are more creepy style..movies are for the jump-out-of-our-skin factor. I’m too slow a reader to get the jump ;-) Oh..i went to see Jeepers Creepers at the movies (or was it part 2?..and why am i asking you? You won’t know which one I saw will you?) ;-)...It was pretty darn scary as I remember. We watched Drag Me to Hell at Halloween..but i wanted to see 30 days of night cos vampire movies always scare me ;-)
Ohh.. you’re a wee artist are you?? Good for you. Are you any good? Ok....so you’re a painter...without a brush...and without a canvas. Oookaay. Well, good luck with thaaaat ;-) ...(sounds like some xmas pressy ideas there)
Ya..can’t help feeling sorry for Bachman. Poor guy...what a waste. What a terrible, senseless waste!!! Huhuhu ;-)
Ohh, you have the first season of Simpsons?.. Hehe..I have the first 11..oh, yes! How bad am i? :-) Oh..never seen bones though...was tempted though. But i mentally slapped my wrist to stop myself.
Yeah you’re right, it’s the questions we want in quizzes. That’s why i like millionaire..just cut the crap and give us the questions. Am a bit partial to the weakest link too ;-) Oh..I hear they had that woman from Neighbours on the Aussie version (was her character called Morag or something..that name could only be Australian). Take your point on Deal or No Deal, but I can’t help myself. It’s my dirty secret. I’m weak like that.
Ohhhhh yaaaa.. we have One vs. One Hundred here too.. like that one too. But it’s part of the lottery program so they keep cutting it half way through to do all the over-done lottery draw, yawn (cut the crap and just give us the numbers!!!..not that I play it – I know I’m too unlucky for anything like that).
Ha..reward mediocrity/keep the losers coming back!! Hehe..like your thinking. You may just have it there. There just isn’t enough recognition of mediocrity if you ask me... So did you ever win it?? You must have done, surely? Oh Melbourne Cup’s a horse race.. I’ll remember that for the next pub at Xmas. Flemmington, huh? Sounds like where to live if you have a bad chesty cough.
You got bowled 2nd ball of the innings? Wow.. I dream of lasting that long. Mind you I haven’t played since I was at school. Don’t like the idea of someone throwing a really hard ball at me at speed. Can’t think why. Plus those boxes they wear really don’t seem hygienic.. yak.
Well, not everyone will like LOTR I guess. I used to love it (the cartoon one)..then I went crazy for the movies, then I got bored. But ya, I have a soft sport for it since I’ve liked it from my kid time. Oh ya..lovely bones should be good (not read it though), and his other one was quite good Heavenly Creatures.
Well done and cred for getting through the Pearl Jam stuff. That must be a lot of listening. If you listen to stuff enough it’ll usually get stuck in your mind and then you’ll start liking it.. in theory. Queen huh? When I went to the Wilco gig the singer said, ok clap ur hands above your head..pretend you’re at a Queen concert ;-) He said, don’t stop clapping..keep going until you get a shooting, buring pain down your arms :-)
I kinda like bands that have their tongues firmly in cheek, like the damned though haven’t bothered with them for a while. Anything quirky is good.
Mmm...Mini-Eggs.. say no more! :-) King of Candy. Sultan of Sweets. I’ve been into the cinder toffee this week too.. ;-) But darn...even manky chocolate is a treat. Yes...you’re right..it’s definitely the thought that counts..that’s why i just think about giving gifts, and then not bother. ;-))
C’mon Julie...you know a month to Christmas is no time at all... you have to get into action Now!!.. Those shops will be CRAZY soon. I can’t stand it. I love my internet and my credit card..do all my shopping without bum leaving chair. :-) Or i just think about it at least ;-)
ERmmm..just read the last lines of your post.. and no, my train didn’t go fast...(see above)...so I didn’t get far into Dome. And yes...do please stop washing dishes...cooking food...eating.....making the bed...tidying...caring for Lucy....drop everything and Grab Your Dome Now!!! Sorry that did sound slightly rude, but you know what I meant.. Now get reading please, I’m sure you’ll can catch me up. I feel so guilty reading it alone.
Anyway..hope you’re well and wish u a good week ahead. Tata!
