I needed to read "the Art of Fielding" when I was a kid! I could always hit, but fielding was never a strong point.

Hey, Dave! Glad to see you reading Pillars of the Earth! It's truly a marvel and the BBC movie will interest you afterwards with all the great characters.

Hi Dave, I've been on hiatus lately, but I am back and will be checking out the latest books, etc. New picture too Took off the AT&T picture for awhile. It's my favorite place, but I won't be back there until April 8, 2011, opening day.

Thanks, Dave. Though I wouldn't call the sentences I left reviews.

And, yes, Vonnegut might be my favorite. He gave a talk on my campus in 2003, I believe, but the free tickets went too fast for me.

Carribean was the first Michener I have read. It was really hard for me to get into it. I kept reading it because there were some interesting parts.

i have never tried roth before, he didnt strike me as someone i would want to read. i rarely read modern popular writers, except for a few mystery writers. but i did enjoy the human stain somewhat, not enough to get to try any of his other work.

Well thanks Dave. I recently joined here, and you are the first contact. I had started at Goodreads, but I like this format better.
Yes big fan of Mr. Vonnegut. I discoverd him late. It was the year he died. I had seen his name often in book circles over the years, and thought he was just another si-fi writer, but after reading about, "Slaughter House Five", I picked it up and was hooked on Vonnegut.

Congrats on your book reviews. Nicely done! How the second novel coming along? I did something uncharacteristic - started reading a baseball biography. Willie Mays: the life, the legend by James S. Hirsch. I've often been disallusioned with sports writers because their writing often gets stuck in a dry recitation of stats. Not so with this one. It pleasantly surprised me. I'm hoping the entire book is evenly written and the engaging writing style holds up until the end.

Everyone should read your book, Dave. It's awesome, timely and unlike many that brave such territory, graciously realistic.
