Am really enjoying My Last Duchess - treated myself to it yesterday. Real escapism. Feel guilty reading it as it's my Mum's sort of book. Non-fiction on hold !!! Decided life is too short to only read deep and intelligent books (however, not sure I could stretch to Mills and Boon or Barbara Cartland).

Also really enjoyed Suite Francaise. Looks like I should read My Last Duchess. Have just finished a non-fiction book - really enjoyed it. Have a few "non-fiction" on my shelf but am normally too tired to read this sort of book at night. However, after a few disappointing novels, I think I'm going to stick with non-fiction for a while.

I read the Third Twin a few years ago - thought it was excellent ! Have just finished a memoir about Zimbabwe "When a Crocodile eats the Sun" - really good.

Really pleased you enjoyed Mao's Last Dancer ... I'm curious to know what you think about Wolf Hall ? I keep on looking at it in the bookshop but haven't bought it yet. Happy weekend !

It's a very quick read but moving. I liked the style which is very "chatty". When are we going to try to skype again ?

    Hi Barbie,
You are awesome. I have the feeling you read books quickly while I fall asleep over them in the evenings. I'm reading a book on Rwanda now but I'm not far enough along to know if I'd recommend it. But one I read last month that I really liked was Buffalo from the Broken Heart by Dan O'Brien. I don't know if you will find it on amazon.co.uk but amazon.com has it.

Hope to know more about Dom's operation this weekend. The dr is taking the cast off to xray it and to see whether he needs to put it back on again. Fingers crossed. He'll hopefully tell us when he wants to do the next op. Her half term is in 2 weeks and she really needs a break (and I fancy a holiday - don't really need one !).

Read Alexander St. about a year ago and really liked it, as you say, good old fashioned writing. That's why I was so disappointed with The Sunday Philosopher's Club. It was so boring. Thanks for the comments about the Dragon Tattoo. Have just finished The Inheritance of Loss - a "clever" book ie intellectual but I did enjoy it in a funny way. Not everyone's cup of tea though.

Let's try and skype tomorrow. Big hug.

Interesting - I've just bought The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Several friends recommended it. You gave it 4 stars so it can't be that bad ! Looks like good holiday reading ?

The photo? Not really sure how I did that. Maybe in your profile. Yeah it's nice cus you can't see my face!!
I'm reading Yasmina Khadra "Ce que le jour doit a la nuit". Really good. I have a few 'hot' ones waiting (not that I need them for crying out loud!) on my night table. I'll send them on to you (after Emmanuelle reads them that is)...
