Although I read a diverse array of genres, the common theme across all my books is that they somehow examine the messiness of humanity. At any given time, I'm reading several books (2-3 for work and only 1 at a time for pleasure). I love rich, sticky characters, especially when they are fully fleshed out females (as opposed to the poorly... more »

Hi Kelly. I'm new on Shelfari. I found you because you have some of the same books on your shelf as I do. If you're interested in suspense novels, you may like my book "White Lies" which will be released by Oceanview Publishing later in the year. Cheers!

I am interested in your selection of books - check out mine and you will understand. (The Rwandan--Appalachian--sci-fi--melungeon--Camus---race relations--hobbit--St. Vincent Millay thing) And you had several on your shelf that I'd forgotten I'd read. You don't hang out in Hindman in late July, do you?

Kelly, "Tales of the Dying Earth" by Jack Vance is perhaps the quintessential collection of sci/fi fantasy/adventure stories ever written by one of the most revered and awarded authors to write in this genre. The words that come to mind when trying to describe his incredible achievement are: wondrous, magnificent, epic, spellbinding, dazzling, exquisite, inventive, eclectic verbiage, magical, elegant, enthralling, engrossing, imaginative, original, mellifluous pacing, atmospheric backdrops, transformational, fantastical storylines! I read the first story in this collection when i was 11 years old and the others in the ensuing years. Over the years I have read the collection over 20 times, each time reflecting on the joy it brings me and its life changing impact on my reading addiction. Just imagine being able to transform written words from your minds eye into life-like visions and you will then understand the sensual impact of Jack Vance's brilliance! Ironically, because of its unique qualities I have always been protective and therefore reluctant to expose this truly fabulous literary experience to others for fear of diminishing its value to me...a misguided supposition I know, but true never-the-less. So, if you want to take a journey into the unknown and wander through the beautiful worlds as penned by a master scribe then you will want to read this incredible collection of stories and revel in their beatific perfection. Storytelling at its best; a masterpiece...

I wanted to apologize to any of my friends here on Shelfari who got the impression that my Halloween "BOO"k was spam. I really did not intend for it to be perceived that way. If I could put a smile or brighten someone's day with a simple gesture, then I would do it in a heart beat (espeacially, considering the times that we live in now).

I hope you all have fun this Halloween because I know I enjoy the heck out of it! :)

Yeah, right! Busy procrastinating. Even though this Sunday I spent in a lovely old 17th century stone house in the mountains of the Haute Savoie. We did an impromptu writing retreat. The place is owned by my friend Katie's in-laws. Quite wonderful and I finally started the re-write but then did nothing today. Can you say fits and starts? How've you been? Everything okay?

Kelly, I'm anxious to read your comments about "Daddy" and Stieg Larsson's trilogy. I now what you mean about waiting for the next book. I have been waiting for the next book in George R.R. Martin's series "Song of Ice and Fire" for two years. I guess absence makes the heart grow fonder is working overtime, lol. I also want to mention another book which I'm reading right now, "The Tender Bar" by J.R. Moehringer. His mellifuous phrasing and harmonious blending of words is amazing. Since I purchased my Kindle 2 I've had to exercise a lot of discipline in my book buying because the next book is only 1 click and 5 seconds away. So many books, so little time! Anyway, enjoy and READ ON...

Kelly, thanks for your comments. Judging from your profile and list of books you share my passion for reading. I would like to recommend one of my all time favorite books to you: "Daddy" by Loup Durand. I've read it 4or5 times over the years. Also, wasn't sure whether you have read the George R.R. Martin series "Song of Ice and Fire" or Stieg Larsson's trilogy which is made up of the "stick characters" you refer to in your profile. Anyway, if you decide to read these books please let me know what you think of them. Enjoy and READ ON...

Noticed you liked She's Come Undone, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a disturbed young girl's downward spiral and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:
