I have rated all the books that I have read on my shelves. Here is my own rating system: 5 stars is for a book that I absolutely love and will continue to reread throughout my lifetime. 4 stars is for a book that is very good and one that I will probably reread at some point. 3 stars is for a book that was a pleasant read, but one that I won't reread. 2 stars is for a book that I didn't like and probably didn't finish. 1 star is for a book that I hated and never will pick up again. If I haven't rated it, then that means that I haven't read it yet. I don't review books and I don't rely on others' reviews when choosing a book to read. If I really want to read a particular title then I'll read it, despite the reviews it has gotten. On the other hand, I won't read a book simply because of rave reviews. I will give my opinion about a book if someone asks me and I will give recommendations as well.
I have tons of books on my shelf here because: 1) I've been a reader for almost 45 years, so that can rack up a lot of books. 2) I have a BA in anthropology and a BA in English, so I read a lot of books in college. 3) I worked in a bookstore for three years, so I bought a lot of books while I was employed there. 4) I tend to be a impulse book shopper, much to my husband's dismay! 5) I'm addicted to Shelfari and am finding lots of books here to add to my shelves.
